Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Generally not glad. But on some level I am that we have them as an argument base.
Probie, you have waved your hand and created miracles! I am on the computer AT MY HOUSE holding Exogenesis in front of me!! As I never get on at my house (too much trouble) this is BIG.
So, here is the snippet of Exogenesis that really struck me, though the whole thing weaves sparkage in some form throughout.
Spoiler:
Elizabeth stepped back to allow Lorne, arms loaded with power cells, into the jumper. Turning to Rodney and Radek, she said, "As soon as you're through the 'gate, I'll have everyone from the Daedalus leave for the Alpha Site. Lorne and Witner, you'll be on standby on Polrusso. When you get there, shut down the 'gate and redial Atlantis so that we can keep in contact and transfer the ZPM quickly if necessary." She met John's gaze. "I'll need you to leave me your access code. It won't be necessary, of course, but if you don't succeed, I'll need two codes to set the city to self-destruct."
Radek gave her a somber look. "That will not be sufficient."
Once again, comprehension hit them all like a slap in the face. Despite the swaying motion of the city, Elizabeth stood straighter, and nodded. "I'll remain behind at the Alpha Site."
John had always admired Elizabeth for reasons that went beyond leadership skills, because not all leaders, no matter how great, were prepared to go down with the ship. The city's self-destruct wouldn't damage the 'gate, and the crystal necessary to dial Earth would be left behind at the Alpha Site after the expedition had departerd. If Ea's intent had been to 'reset' the Pegasus galaxy to zero, there would be nothing to prevent the active nanites from accessing Earth and who knew how many other galaxies whose addresses were secreted away in the bowels of some Ancient database.
After a pause, during which Rodney must have racked his brain for another solution, he finally said, "To destroy the crystal, open a wormhole to anywhere and toss it into the vortex."
There were a lot of things John wanted to say to Elizabeth in that moment--about what they were about to do, and about everything they'd done over the past two years. All the words that came to mind seemed inadequate, so he took the coward's way out. "Saddle up everyone. Time to leave."
Other bits and bobs...
Spoiler:
On the way downstairs, Elizabeth said to John, "Except for the volunteer crew working to get Daedalus ready, we've evacuated everyone to the Alpha site." The city lunged again and she fell heavily against him. "Sorry," she muttered, then sent him an odd look when he steadied her. "Carson said...Never mind. Your inner ear really is all right?
Spoiler:Might as well get this over with. She passed her hand over the sensor that would signal her presence outside the door to his quarters. "Colonel, can I have a word?"
There was no acknowledgment from within, but the door slid open. Past the bare walls and the packed bags sitting patiently by the desk, she could see him standing at the window.
"You can unpack now, you know," she began tentatively. "We lifted the evacuation order--did you miss the memo?"
Turning partially toward her, John raised an eyebrow, apparently not buying her weak attempt at humor. "Figured it'd be more efficient to leave 'em packed if I'm heading back to Earth on the Daedalus."
A cold sensation prickled at the back of her neck. She wasn't sure how she'd expected this conversation to go, but it was already threatening to run off the rails. "Are you resigning?"
[my paraphrase...Elizabeth outsmarts the AF rules book on how John can stay despite disobeying a direct order from her to stay put earlier in the story. She then addresses their 'personal' relationship of how his disobeying would affect them. He tells her that he believes in the military but that sometimes he had to do what he felt was right.]
And the hell of it that if he had obeyed, he wouldn't have been the person she wanted him to be either. "So where does that leave us?" she finally asked.
"Same as before, I guess. I'll keep doing my job as long as you're willing to put up with me."
"I think I can handle that. But understand, John, that this cannot keep happening."
He sighed. "I know. And I'm sorry. I don't regret doing it, but I am sorry for doing this to you."
[She turns to leave, but John stops her.]
"What you almost had to do, at the Alpha site..." John raised his gaze to meet hers. "I just want you to know that I respect the hell out of you for it."
Surprised, Elizabeth tried to demur. "It wasn't as if we had very many choices."
"That doesn't change the fact that you were prepared to stay behind in order to see everyone else safely through to Earth. That kind of thing isn't what you signed up for."
"Nothing about this expedition is exactly what any of us signed up for. We all do what we have to in order to protect Atlantis and each other. I'm no different from anyone else."
He watched her carefully for a moment. "Yeah," he said finally. "I think that's what I respect most."
It was as personal a statement as she'd ever heard him make, and it warmed her. "Thank you," she said quietly.
One more small bit
Spoiler:
CARSONS POV: [Rodney asks John why he's in dress blues when he doesn't like to wear them--he's in them to attend the funeral of the Ancients who caused the problem]
"I don't like ti because the brass, in their infinite wisdom, sent us Class As specifically for funerals and promotions, and we have more of one than the other. This is a funeral." Sheppard's sidelong glance at Elizabeth suggested that there was something more to it than that. A subtle sign, perhaps, that he was rededicated to his duties after their earlier clash.
There are other Sparky moments woven throughout, and that's just the tip of the iceberg--about a page and a half of a 325 page novel. The fight scene between them (the one that caused all the apologizing later on) is brilliant as are their reactions once John defies orders. Angsting and guilt as befits the S2 John & Elizabeth. It's really good.
On top of that, the story itself as a whole is really good. It could easily have been a great S2 episode or even a movie. I hope you can find it someday!!!Last edited by Eri13; 12 August 2009, 05:54 PM.Visit SGArising.com to read our virtual continuation of the Atlantis series!

I really do hope we'll get to see more Elizabeth-era novels in the future; I know we've got Terri Osborne's Portals of Discovery coming next year, but aside from that, I don't know if anything else is coming.(This is legal notice that any attempt to censor or delete, for the purpose of oppressing fair and open discussion, any statement made by me will be considered a violation of my right to free speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and will be dealt with in accordance with federal law.)

Spoiler:
Hey did you hear the latest about the movie? ROTFLMAO! From SyFy Wire.
Spoiler:New SG-1, Atlantis films due, just not yet
Stargate Universe executive producer Robert C. Cooper has written scripts for a new potential Stargate SG-1 movie and a Stargate Atlantis film, but said it might be a while before they get a green light.
"We're ready to go," Cooper said in an exclusive interview over the weekend in Pasadena, Calif., where he was promoting SGU at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "We're just waiting for the right opportunity," he said. "We want to be successful with it. The studio wants to be successful, and we really don't want to proceed with something in the wrong climate, which I think financially it is right now."
Two previous SG-1 straight-to-DVD movies, Continuum and The Ark of Truth, sold well, but the current economic downturn makes DVD premieres less lucrative than they were in the past.
"It's tough, because we were very successful with the first two SG-1 movies," Cooper said. "Since then, the economics have changed a little bit. DVDs aren't selling the same way they were when we released those even just a year, and a year and a half ago."
A new compilation of Stargate Atlantis episodes, Fans' Choice, just dropped on Blu-ray on Aug. 4, featuring the pilot "Rising" and an extended cut of "Enemy at the Gate." That won't help Cooper mount a new production.
"That, obviously, is already produced," Cooper said. "Putting it on DVD or Blu-ray is not the same as the investment it would take to start from scratch."
Should the two DVD films be made, they would follow previous entries in having independent storylines that would not affect the upcoming Syfy original series SGU. "They would stand alone," Cooper said. "The Atlantis one takes place shortly after the end of season five. The SG-1, I think, takes place sometime in an intermediary period between when the SG-1 movies left off and when Universe began."
SGU debuts Oct. 2 with a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT; it will air Fridays at 9 on Syfy.

Spoiler:Read it, shook my head at the inaccurate reporting (Cooper did not write the SGA movie script, Mallozzi and Mullie did), and rolled my eyes at the 'economy's not good enough' line, which is so hypocritical since they certainly had enough money to do SGU, and that's apparently costing more per episode to make than SGA did. Honestly, who do TPTW think they're kidding?(This is legal notice that any attempt to censor or delete, for the purpose of oppressing fair and open discussion, any statement made by me will be considered a violation of my right to free speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and will be dealt with in accordance with federal law.)
Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Read the handwriting on the wall people! SGU is their new baby and SGA is history.
