Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread

Oh, and John's mom. She has taken on a number of forms in fanfic. Usually dead. LOL I think she was the last person who showed him unadulterated unconditional love and understanding. He's had a missing piece ever since. She would be modern but not too trendy. Conservative but not boring. And very smart.

And she would have been Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris fan.

I wake up at 0530 Mon-Fri to work out. When I was working at the mill, wake up time was 0215. So if you're nuts, I am crazy, wacko, three fries short of a happy meal, BONKERS.

I started an AU once, where they did meet. I called Shep's mom Anne, I think it's a simple and good name for her. In my personal canon, she loved music, played guitar and taught John to play. Unlike his dad, who always set his standards too high, John's mom and understanding for him. He lost her probably during his teenage years and that's when, IMO, he and his dad started drifting apart.

Any change we'll ever see that AU finished
And in my little Sparky universe, John's mom is very alike yours... and he also lost her when he was a teenager and thus started drifting apart from his dad...
Somehow I also see her as a painter.
I have this picture in my head where she's on the back porch with a 12-year old John next to her. And she's painting the fields that surround them and the mountains in the distance. She's wearing a blue scarf over her head to hide the fact that she's getting bald due to the cancer treatments and she looks very slim yet happy that she gets to spend her final days with her son by her side.
The painting never got finished, but John has it in storage somewhere because he can't get rid of it.
My Sparky universe is very complicated

If you watch closely in the episode, you can see him swallow a number of times. Pure emotion I'd say.

"what if one of them wants to stay?" remark of John to Woolsey? Well as far as I remember there had been no discussion of her staying up to that point. And I rewatched this ep 2 days ago for the discussion on that S5 critique thread. My memory isn't that bad. Yet. I was thinking where did this come from? A lot of things happen off screen in this show. Who's to say John and Repl!Elizabeth hadn't talked about it privately? Hmm. Food for thought.

You can clearly read the pain and anguish on his features and by the way he acts, looks and yes... how he swallows several times...
I honestly see him breaking down after this episode... In my Sparky universe (here we go again ) Rodney finds him crying somewhere and tries to console him somehow (you know Rodney is just as bad talking about feelings as John is) and in the end Rodney promises him that they will never give up on her.

Here's a mystery to ponder: What would Shep's mom be like? We saw Liz's ma, granted it was a hallucination. I would imagine John would have met Liz's ma after BAMSR to say Liz is now declared KIA. I assume John's mom must have died before the he joined Atlantis. Imagine if Liz met Shep's ma.

Yeah, I think a lot of people have assumed that John's mom is dead, especially after Outcast, when she wasn't even spoken of at John's father's funeral. Mallozzi actually dropped a hint on his blog that he'd wanted to put a line in Remnants about John blaming himself for 'what happened to his mother.' There's something interesting to think about.

*nods* That's been part of my personal canon for John's mom, too. I figured it was a sudden accident; John got out with only a few scratches, but his mother died.
