Hmm, this talk about all the signs of Sparky friendship so early in Season 1 reminds me: When we get done with the post-a-thon (three more episodes to the end of Season 3, folks!), maybe we should do a "viewers' request" thon, with episodes featuring some of our favorite Sparky moments?
Oooo, that is an awesome idea. I vote vegas right now *g* Because it can be watched as a stand alone, completely AU ep and we can spin spin spin it all the way..... *g*

As for angst, did you guys read the new Ren!fic?
I'm not weird, I'm limited edition.

But it does strike you how very comfortable they were with each other right from the start. No hesitancy or dissembling on anybody's part. I think they treated each other as equals right off the bat and both began to change a little bit to see the other's point of view.
The eyebrow thing always reminds me of a pre-teen boy moment, kinda like: "she wants to have a 'word' with me. Alone." You know what that means!! Sex in closets! *snicker, snicker, hint, hint, wink, wink*. Just boys being boys.

For me that comfort vibe comes because of what Elizabeth's choice of him to join the team means. For Elizabeth, choosing him is a gamble--will his black marks make him an asset or a liability? But she also knows that he did what he did to help people, so she can sense the loyalty and good heart in him.

For John, I think it's a little different. He knows she chose him despite his black marks. He knows she trusts him quite a lot when she appoints him to the military leadership post after Sumner's death. Everything that became what he cherished in his life evolved from that one chance she gave him, and in the back of his mind that's always something that colors Elizabeth's character and makes her special. She chose him. She trusted him. For that, he would and will always be grateful. So inherently there is a comfort level with her he doesn't have with anyone else. She's in his corner, and he can always talk to her about it.

Even when he 'rebels' in THZ he does so because he thinks she's putting herself in danger, so he rebels against her to protect her, if that makes sense.

And as it's angst day, I'll add that it is that connection to her that fans out through all the seasons of SGA and in turn colors his character. His life took a different path when he stepped through the stargate, and she was integral to that path. IMO, anytime he reflects on his life on Atlantis, inherent in that will be that it's because she gave him a chance. She will always be tied to him.

I like that idea too. Hopefully when I can be there. I won't be around again this week. I'm going to a Celtic music festival so I'm missing for a good reason.

And I love this Suspicion moment so much.

            Spoiler:
GATEROOM. Sheppard's team and a second team of four come down the stairs into the Gateroom to meet Weir by the Gate.

WEIR: Anxious to step through the Gate again, Major?

            SHEPPARD: Yes, I am.

            TEYLA: We all are.

SHEPPARD: Would you like us to bring back anything special?

            WEIR: Uh, no thanks.

            SHEPPARD: Groceries? New outfit? Flatware?

(Look at Ford. He just knows.)

WEIR: Hmm. No -- just yourselves in one piece, please. (She calls up the Control Room.) Dial it up. (As the Gate starts to dial, she turns back to Sheppard and the others.) Be safe.

(And look how tickled with himself he is. He loves teasing her.)

(She walks away as the Gate kawhooshes. The teams walk into the event horizon

              Spoiler:
Jack's got some 'splaining to do. Poor Elizabeth! And I'm fearful the fever could spread to Caldora... with them being weakened by the recent invasion attempt, John and Cam could have more trouble on their hands!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

It totally makes sense. There's definitely a feeling that part of what drives John with regards to Elizabeth is a debt of honor to her for giving him that second chance when everyone else had thrown him to the wolves. So everything he does, he does not only out of duty to his country and to Earth, but on a personal level, to honor Elizabeth and the gift that she's given to him: his life.

Heeheehee! Oh yeah, Ford so knows. Rodney, on the other hand, looks utterly perplexed the whole time. Classic.

All of this makes lot of sense. I'm always surprised how people seem not to be aware of just how important that chance Elizabeth had given to John was - for him. The thing is, he would never be a part of the expedition, not even with his gene, if there wasn't for Elizabeth. She personally insisted on bringing him along, pretty much against everyone else's advice. John is fully aware of that, and John is nothing if not loyal. Saying that John doesn't care for her or doesn't have any kind of connection to her is simply untrue. Loyalty is the defining characteristic of John.

I love how you pointed out the comfort level John has in Elizabeth, Eri. You gave me yet another plot bunny. *sigh*

Which, in turn makes Vegas the sparkiest episode of all. What? Just dare to call me illogical and I'll send Mr. Spock after you. Mr. Spock approves Sparky

On the contrary, you are using perfect logic. Spock would know and he would definitely approve of Sparky. After all, he and John have similar ears.

ooooo! That's profound right there. Love it.

Soooooo...I have a pet project for people--or maybe it's been done, IDK.

SK and others always have these great fic recommendations, but I never have the time to read them right when they're recommended. However, on the days I do have time, I can never find the links.

I'm not a random fanfic reader, I generally always need to be pointed to a piece of fiction. Is there anywhere we can have a MASTER SPARKY LIST of highly recommended fics? Ones approved of and loved by Sparky readers, here, at LJ, at fanfic.net, Command Dynamics, etc?

This would be the creme de la creme of writing--well-written, thorough, good characterization. More than just one person would have to recommend it--the works would almost have to have a following, so to speak. Say, maybe, five different people recommending it, or tons of good reviews?

                            Is that possible?

We need a sparky banner with Spock, saying "Mr. Spock says Sparky is logical!"

Of course Spock approves of Sparky. He is logical, after all, and Sparky is simply the logical result of putting John and Elizabeth together in the same room.
