Well, I've been working on 'Beautiful Children' for almost a year now, so from now until October really doesn't seem that long to me to finish a +40.000 word fic
But I'm still going to give it a try. I must be insane!! *headdesk*

Exactly!! My head is slowly filling up with ideas for this one, so I really think I'm going to tackle it

A lot of the people who were on the roster to go to Atlantis might have already been in Antarctica, and they would've been prepared to get their affairs in order quickly in preparation for shipping out, but the expedition may have needed some additional personnel, as well as time to requisition all the supplies they'd need (potentially enough to last from six months to a year at least) and get it all packed up and staged to go through the gate. Maybe they even did a couple of dry runs through to Earth's Alpha Site just to make sure they could get everyone and everything through the gate in one shot. So yeah, definitely more than a couple of days, but probably less than two months.
Thank you! That does make a lot of sense and you're right. They would have been prepared in a way, but not fully enough to leave right away.

We're prolly redoing that whole ep. Will be a while before we get to that one though so we'll see what happens with it. And no worries, don't you know us better already than thinking we'd let John treat Liz (or anyone Liz-like) like that?

I've seen the movie 9 times, but I never noticed that... I just thought Chris did an awesome Kirk. He even had the flailing way of running when he got off of Spock's ship.
I'll keep it in mind though when I see it again

Honestly, I didn't pay much attention to him being like anyone except the original Kirk. At least I don't think I did. Actually, yeah, I think I did notice a little bit of John-ness, especially when you first kinda meet him, and when he first enters Star Fleet. Yeah, I can see that.

                  Spoiler:
But one thing I did make a connection with. At the beginning, with Kirk's dad on the ship. As he was talking to his wife over the com, I couldn't help but think that I could see John doing this. I can see him putting Elizabeth on a shuttle and then sacrificing himself exactly like Kirk Sr. did. I could picture the whole scene with them in it. And he would be trying to be light about it, trying to keep Elizabeth calm. Oh.

And I think I have found a prompt that I can tackle:

                      Spoiler:
davincis_girl: The new Star Trek movie got me thinking about time traveling bad guys. An enemy of one the major characters from future Atlantis travels back in time looking for revenge. Using an Ancient device or wormhole, he/she travels back in time and starts trying to kill off the Atlantis crew before they even can travel to the Pegasus Galaxy for the first time. This causes some of the crew to be thrown together on Earth in an attempt to find out what is going on and protect themselves.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how long before the expedition left Earth John joins them? Was it just a couple of days? A few weeks? Maybe a month or two? Has this ever been said anywhere?
I love that prompt. I simply adore time travel stories.

I think every movie I see would be better with JF but I honestly didn't see the Kirk comparison. Maybe it was the age thing. I did however, imagine John and Elizabeth as Kirk's parents.

Yeah Thats What I meant When u first meet him he kinda reminds me of john. but also Yeah I can now imagine John Sacrificing himself for Elizabeth by piloting like either a daedalus class starship or an F-302 cause really can a puddle jumper really do some significant damage? into a wraith or some other enemy ship or (like the aliens we saw in the daedalus Variations. ) saving his wife and his son. I mean could u guys imagine how elizabeth would've felt. Devestated im sure.

Im listening to the music that was playing during
                        Spoiler:
George Kirk's Death Scene/James Kirk Birth"
its called labor of love and i can just picture Sheppard doing that.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Oh so very true. John really would do what George Kirk did. No doubt about it.

Like I said, when I saw Chris as Kirk, I was just thinking of Kirk, but I can imaging you were thinking about John at the beginning.
