Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
Well I'm about to dash off to the Royal Easter Show in a few... my fire brigade is centrestage in about 5 hours and its gonna take half that long just to get in there. Toodles!
Oooh! Sounds great. Have fun!!
On topic: for some reason I'm starting to become convinced Atlantis is alive. It She has a soul. And I think Elizabeth Weir should be the first person to see the soul of the city and stare straight into it. And then they will become one. And John will flip out.

Wow! Don't get too tired out by the drive, and have fun at your show!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Elizabeth as city soul literally FTW.
I'm definitely a believer in the 'Atlantis is alive' theory. I've always figured that Sheppard had a close connection to the city, 'cause he's got the mad ATA skillz. But I also think that Elizabeth has her own connection to Atlantis. Maybe it comes from her alternate self from Before I Sleep being asleep in Atlantis for 10,000 years, maybe it's her love for the city and what she's willing to to do for Atlantis, but it's certainly there.
Spoiler:
*snickers* I've got Lizzie doing a 'joins with Atlantis' like this in my fix-it fic. And yeah, John freaks out. Good times.

To be honest I used to think the idea of thecity actually being alive to be a bit incredulous. I mean, I could see the concept of people having a close bond to the city or ship where they live and it almost taking on it's own character but I never really considered the city being alive. Or, at least until I thought more about exploring the city + what Atlantis could've been + even some repeat viewings of DW that I realised the potential in the idea.
And like you pointed out, with her connections in the city known in BiS, Elizabeth should be the one to experience it the most.
The conversation about Elizabeth and Atlantis sharing a connection pinged my brain that I had seen a couple of fics in that vein before. So here's a couple of fic recs y'all might find interesting:
The Warmth of Heaven, by havocthecat. Elizabeth's sense of curiosity is always honed when they discover a new facet of Atlantis.
Strong Connection, by Vicky. Even without the gene, she can feel Atlantis.

I figured that with the Ancients being so technologically advanced, the idea that Atlantis might have some sort of artificial intelligence program seemed within the realm of possibility.
Elizabeth should definitely get to experience a connection with Atlantis. And I think Atlantis would want to have a connection with someone like Elizabeth, who cares so much, feels so close, to the city.
The SGA novel Reliquary, by Martha Wells, goes into some really weird territory with a 'corrupted' version of ATA technology as well as what the real ATA is like... fun stuff! The ideas presented in the novel may be one of the routes that the concept got into fandom.
Speaking of fandom, I know I've mentioned Domenika Marzione's fics before; for anyone who's interested, I recommend White Noise (set circa Hide and Seek), Minor in Archaeology (set after Intruder), and Penelope Waiting (set during The Lost Boys) as a start.
Will post my ponderings about Elizabeth Weir becoming immortal tomorrow.
Sweet! Looking forward to it!
G'night, everyone! This little kitty is off to bed!

It seems everyone is off to bed just as I wake up. Oh well, I've always enjoyed the fics that have John communicating with the city but haven't thought much about it being Elizabeth. I guess because she doesn't have the ATA gene I never considered it. But it sounds like a great idea. Of course, the city protected her for all those 10,000 years. Why would it stop after old Elizabeth was gone and new Elizabeth arrived?

Wow.. you lot have been busy while I've been away!
Show went well, no major hickups in our little 3 minutes of fire fighting/ stage glory, plus we even got an encore.. was rather proud (despite the pouring rain!)
Will also ponder Elizabeth's connections with Atlantis tomorrow..

Exactly my thought! She's the same woman, just from a slightly different timeline. She loves the city just as much... why shouldn't Atlantis love her back?

On Elizabeth's connection with the city - can I hear "another brick in the wall of wasted chances and ideas"? The fact that TPTW never explored John's connection to the city was lots of fail, and it just shows how seriously these writers lack the skill.
You betcha! Diminishing the importance of the ATA gene in Seasons 4 and 5 (and thus, John's importance-- hello, the gene was his meal ticket onto the expedition, for pity's sake!) was yet another one of TPTW's really stupid decisions that really dragged down the quality of those seasons.

Hmmm....let's see if I can catch up in the conversation.....
Favorite Sparky moment? - Yikes, that changes from day to day sometimes, but right now, I'd have to say John breaking quarantine to make a physical connection with Elizabeth in The Real World.
How would I design my own Sparky moment? - Hmmmm, okay, I didn't watch anything after mid Season 4 (except GiTM) - so this may not play out with canon, but oh well......John, Rodney, Carson, Ronon, Teyla, Zelenka, Lorne, Chuck and a select few Atlantis loyalists hijack Atlantis and fly it back to PG. They find Elizabeth floating in space, and Rodney/Carson, with their mad scientist and doctor skillz find a way to upload her consciousness in a new Elizabeth body (which looks exactly like Torri's Elizabeth) and they become a renegade force in the PG helping those less fortunate and trodden upon. Kinda like Robin Hood, but with lots more special effects.....LOL!
Enjoyed the chocolate easter bunny fic. Cute, fluffly fun....
Elizabeth angst fic - OUCH - good, but too angsty for me. I'm such a wuss.
Fic prompts......hmmmm......
*John, Elizabeth, Athosian garden on the mainland.
*John, Elizabeth, Athosian kids and kites on a warm, sunny, windy day.
Guess that's all I got for right now. Happy Sparky Monday!

Whoo hoo! Rebel!Atlantis for the win!
And I love those fic ideas with John and Elizabeth visiting the Athosians. A morning in the garden, an afternoon picnic on the beach and kite flying... *melts*
