It's one of those off-the-show vs in-character moments for me. I can (almost) accept what happened on screen because I know that Torri is/was gone at the time, so they had to give some reason. I still think a completely failed rescue attempt would have been a better alternative. This way seemed like 'oh yeah, that pesky Elizabeth, we'd better mention her and pretend that we cared'

And you bring up a completely valid point. Carter has been captured by the replicators. Her team rescued her. *****!

Torri being gone at the time is also what made me not think about the scene twice the first time I saw it. That's one of the reasons I love you guys. You make me think about things I would otherwise find 'normal'.
But you're right, a failed rescue attempt would have been much better and would have kept everyone in character. And it would have made for another great episode. And we would have seen more angst!John because he failed to rescue her. Oh, the possibilities!!!

Have eps 4x03 & 4x04 devoted to that, and never speak of Weir again if they so chose. Whatever. It'd be better than leaving at least two gaping plotholes

So very true. Which of course brings us back to the discussion if Franibeth is or isn't the real Elizabeth. *headdesk*
Of course if they would have killed off Elizabeth right away, we wouldn't have all the amazing fics that are out there now. Yes there would have been fix-it fics too, but prolly not nearly as many as there are now.
Oh, and if they would have killed off Elizabeth, there would have been a valid reason for Teyla to sort through her stuff mere hours after it happened and then I think that maybe I could have accepted it that John helped her with it. I say maybe, cause I don't know if he'd be up to it. I don't know if he could do it so easily.
