Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
Wouldn't that have been a great series finale? Like, a two-parter where at the beginning Rodney accidentally sprays Todd the Wraith with a concentrated salt solution and he just explodes.
Then, Atlantis has a *bing* moment where they equip all their ships, P-90s, etc with the same salt solutions and go all crazy epic battle spraying this salt solution (which shouldn't freeze even in space's cold temps) on everything Wraith. Enter the Genii and all the other races who could help and BAM! No more Wraith.
See. I could totally have been a writer.
LOL! Hey, it would've been waaaay better than the 'where the frak did that come from' wormhole drive!
True that. I think Joe would give an honest answer, at least, if the question were asked nicely. But there's no need to hammer it into the ground or force him to say one thing or another. I'm not going to like him any less even if his thought was 'he really misses and is hurt losing his co-leader and friend'. I think most of the Sparky shippers sorta start their thinking along those lines, and the rest is all about what the future might bring.
Exactly. I don't think there's any need to ask him any leading questions; let any elaborations on the answer come from him. And if someone wants to ask about the "my boss" comment from the magazine, just ask if he had a specific character in mind, but don't mention any names. If he wants to go ahead and name names, that's his call.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

ITA on all this. I hate it when people try to get a certain answer from the actors. And the badgering that has gone on is just outrageous. They are going to try to be diplomatic and not offend anyone so naturally you won't get a definitive answer.

Another day, another fic rec! For this fine Canon!Day, I present:
The Defiant, by our very own Anuna! A tag to "Common Ground" with a glimpse of Sparky, seen from the POV of our favorite Wraith frienemy, Todd.
Happy reading!

I agree with Anuna's assessment of jealousy--and the thing is, I'm not bothered by people wanting to say John is jealous of Kanaan and not even really bothered by saying that John is jealous of losing Teyla. Why wouldn't he be? She's been an integral part of his life for four, five years.
I'm sure everyone's been in that situation where someone close to them suddenly makes a life change that you're no longer a part of. I remember bawling my eyes out when my college roommate and close, close friend fell in love for the first time. I was upset because our relationship would never be the same, but it wasn't 'romantic' jealousy. It was a sense of losing a close, close friend. Teyla's being pregnant and in love with Kanaan meant John was losing a part of her. And if I want to be Sheyla-friendly without being over the top, I could even say that somewhere in his mind he felt possessive of her because he'd been one of the few men in her life (so he thought) for a long time. If you've ever, when you were single, toyed around with the idea of dating a friend just because, it's not unusual. That's my sparky perspective. People could go even further and I still wouldn't be upset--human emotions are complex, and while there were elements of Sheyla, I still stick by what I see on-screen as a very close, deep relationship between John and Elizabeth. Compare the 'dinner hallucination' scene with the end of GITM, and see what people think--or watch all shippers bang their heads into walls, which is really what the forever conflicting world of inconsistent writing does to people.
I'd like to hear what Joe has to say, but rather than it being 'did you ever think of having something with Weir', I'd like to know whether Weir influenced his actions in the last few seasons. What did the end of GITM do to John? That sort of stuff. I just don't think asking him point blank if he was in love with anyone would give any ship a satisfactory answer. I have a feeling everyone is still sorta dancing around the ship questions.
Very lovely!
You make an excellent point there. I don't mind the jealousy from that perspective. And I'd also be very interested to see how he'd respond to a question like that. Maybe since the show's over he might give a somewhat more direct answer. Who knows? Anything can happen.

And thanks!
That's something to think about, too. The cast's major motivation for hedging their answers like they have in the past is all but gone. They're not going to be coming back with twenty new episodes every year any more; it's down to one movie a year, if that (and that's not saying much, given the current lack of movement on the movie). SGA has gone from being the cast's primary job for the year to an occasional job between other jobs.
Thanks for sharing! That was excellent! I love Canon!Day!
Canon!Day rules. Especially since we have such good material in canon to work with. So we're pretty lucky, as far as ships go.

It seems Carson/Teyla has gained a few fans. Which I would be celebrating except they're up against J/E and who's voting for them so I know what that means. ;_;
I just realised that 'kerrrrghh' was the sound of the radio. I though at first it was a combonation of Keller and a growly sound.
Carson would know to give them their privacy and leave them alone. Unless of course he's disolved in lecturing them on Iratus bugs and is obliviously drowning in medical jargon, like in Instinct. Hee.
Hee, I love that first one with that smile.
OMG!!!! * SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES* That is SO CUTE!!!!! *dies from cuteness*
I just noticed something on some stills from Vegas. Could be that this has been talked about before, but I can't remember this specific topic. Anyway, what I noticed:
Spoiler:
John only starts wearing the cross AFTER McKay confronts him with the truth and with the people and medic he couldn't save. The first time you see him wearing it is when he's cleaning up his desk. It makes me wonder why he suddenly decided to wear it again at that specific moment. I know people say it's a link to the medic/Elizabeth and I'm a firm believer of that too, but I just wonder why he started wearing it at that moment. Was it somewhere hidden in his desk and did he discover it again when cleaning out said desk? Or did McKay's words rip open old wounds and was wearing the cross the only way for him to get over it?

1. Did you have in mind from the beginning that there would be no linking back to “our” reality and that the whole story would stay within this alternate reality?
2. Joe Flanigan is a Johnny Cash fan - did he have any input to your picking “Solitary Man”?
3. What was your thinking behind Sheppard wearing the silver crucifix in the last scenes after he finds out about space aliens from Rodney?
4. Do you think Sheppard was fulfilling his destiny fighting the Wraith? Do you think that is always his fate, in some form or other?
Thanks for taking the time”
RC: I always wanted this to be a completely self-contained alternate reality story. It’s one of the things that I think made it somewhat original from other AR stories we’ve done. I fought the notion that we needed a scene with our team in our realty at the end. Instead, I chose to imply jeopardy to our reality through the POV of the McKay we had followed throughout the episode.
Joe and I discussed a few options. I listened to a number of JC songs and even cut the driving sequence to Ring of Fire which lyrically fit the story very well. But Solitary Man is the song that stuck in my head. For about a week, it was literally driving me crazy.
It was Joe Flannigan’s idea to wear the cross at the end. We both liked the idea that his past experience had made him angry with God but that everything he had just learned had scared him and made him hope there really was one. I think that his character thought he had had committed his last sin when he stole the money and was going to seek retribution somehow. He didn’t realize he would find it in such a big way so quickly until he pieced together the clues on his drive.
Our Sheppard has demonstrated suicidal tendencies in a few critical situations. I’ve always loved Mel Gibson’s character in the first Lethal Weapon. Here’s a guy who starts out putting a gun in his mouth and then not pulling the trigger. Incredible for a Hollywood movie. The hero is not only suicidal but apparently also a coward. Of course, as the movie progresses we learn he’s not a coward at all, but the pain in his life has made him willing to take risks many of us would not take because he’s not afraid to die. For me, I think that is what I was trying to do with the alternate reality Sheppard.
I think RC actually meant "redemption" rather than "retaliation" "retribution", haha.
ETA: And now I'm the one getting words mixed up...

Canon!Day... We've sort of got theme days here on the Sparky thread. We try to post pics and fic recs, and start discussions in keeping with the day's theme (though we don't always stick to them faithfully every week):
And the 18th of every month is Sparky!Day; we picked the 18th as that masterpiece of Sparkydom, "The Real World," first aired on the 18th (of August in 2006).
So who do we bribe with Sparky!Dollars... anyone we can!

Well it's not Angst Day today but I don't know when I will get a chance to be back. I made a new sig from a Darius Rucker song that is just stuck in my head.
