Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
I like character drama within sci fi. I know some of SGA's writers have criticised BSG for essentially being too character focused and not action oriented enough, but it is possible to find a balance. It didn't help that while taking a swipe at BSG for doing that, said PTW commented on how much happened on SGA coz of all the explosions and stuff (I'm paraphrasing).
You can't have one without the other. A space battle is cool, but if you don't care about the characters, then there is no drama.
Well said! What's the point of putting these characters through hell if we don't even know them enough to care about whether or not they get out alive? That's a lesson that TPTW have failed to grasp. Repeatedly.
I don't know why he would carry her, considering he had to carry her down the stairs to the transporter, then walk from the transporter to the infirmary. If there was no spinal injury (there wasn't coz he caught her) I personally would have slung her over my shoulder. Not the most dignified way of carrying her though, and as SR said, the image of a man carrying a woman is one of the most romantic images on tv (and through a doorway no less).
If carrying her in his arms was romantic, then slinging her over his shoulder would've screamed 'I'm a caveman, and I'm claiming my mate!' No way in hell TPTW would've let that happen.
For that matter, why didn't they just beam her directly to the Daedalus.
There's a plot hole for you - they put all those sick people on the ship, then fly it right at the sun
LOL!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.
I already know I won't be able to make it next week
I got my own birthday party and it'll last until the early hours of the night/morning... so no post-a-ton for me next week
Likewise I'm out for next week. Got a showjumping comp with the new horse that starts at 9am AEDST (which is right when you start Postathon). Have fun though!
Darn. We'll miss you two! But, Happy Early Birthday, Kris, and good luck at your competition, yunadax!

I was just thinking that logistically and physically, it's easier to carry someone that way, although I imagine a bit harder to get them there when they are unconscious. Doesn't make for a great shot of them though, as elizabeth would get carried through the door ass first.
I suppose it is a bit caveman. It would fit though - a cave scene for one ship matched by a caveman scene for another
That was so much fun to read! Post-a-thons are great! Always entertaining and good for a laugh.
I do love Conversion though. The entire episode just screams with lovely sparkiness. The "it's better for the both of us", "I can't do that" scene is just... the pain in her voice as she says that... very tear/squeal inducing. *melts at amount of angst*

But it would give John a great opportunity to get a nice up close and personal look at Lizzie's ass.

*dies laughing* Oh, the irony!

So... I promised to recommend some "Conversion"-themed fics, and here they are!
Inertia Creeps, by hariboo_smirks. A look into John's mind as his body changes and he struggles with a dark facet to his nature. Suggestive, but not smutty.
Bedside Manner, by Shane Vansen (aka lone_pyramid on LJ). A 'missing scene' fic where Elizabeth goes to see John just after that little incident when he broke the window in her office. Smut ahead.
Five Times John and Elizabeth Got Pregnant, by Oparu. Part of the Five Times Five Things About a Baby series. The "Conversion" scene is third in this story; other episodes covered are "38 Minutes," "The Eye," "Common Ground," and "The Return, Part 1." Smut ahead.
Ichneumonidae by havocthecat. First story in the Lantean Hive AU series, in which John isn't cured, and the Wraith/Iratus mutation is spread through the rest of the Atlantis crew. (Be advised, this series is very much a multiship paradise, and there is lots of kinky bug!sex. But it's fun. )
Happy Sparky reading!

11) What made the 'carry' so squee-worthy for you? And why do you think John carried her to the infirmary, rather than waiting for them to bring a stretcher? Even if the infirmary was packed, we know that they wouldn't have hesitated, it being Elizabeth.[/b]

Well I can assure you the fireman's carry would have been far less graceful.. tossed over the shoulder with an arm between her legs is NOT the image befitting the cities two wonderful leaders!
The scary thing is the make us practice the firemans' carry during the training we do as firefighters.. being a girl I'm always the one BEING carried... so unladylike!

Not to mention, it likely would've been very uncomfortable for John to carry her over one shoulder like that all the way from the control room down to the infirmary. And Lizzie might've woken up with a very sore midsection from all that jostling. Carrying her in his arms was probably the easiest way to keep her comfortable. And we all know John will put Lizzie's comfort before his own.
