Unless your opinion involves how awesome McKay is or you can write a dissertation on how much better SG-1 is than SGA, I don't think they'd be interested. Oh, and forget Sparky. It doesn't exist. *feels a bit cranky tonight*

Thanks to Eri for the wonderful recap of Echoes. That used to be my #1 until Vegas, now it's #2. It has a perfect combo of ship, action and humor. There's not one single scene I don't love and everybody gets a chance to shine. I agree with whoever said earlier that the team is more than just 4 people. I really got tired of hearing that everybody wanted more team episodes. Please. They're all part of the team, and after Elizabeth and Carson left and came back and left and came back and left, there was no more team. In fact in S5 the team of 4 hardly existed.

Echoes will always be the one I pop in and watch when I'm depressed for some reason but not ready to run into the woods screaming. It always makes me feel better.

And the irony of that is that some of the same people screaming for more team episodes are the ones singing the praises of the team-less S5.

I'm rather tempted to pop it in my DVD player right now, in fact... Though I do want to watch those specials on the National Geographic Channel tonight about Air Force One and Marine One first.

Hmm, I'm not registered on CD, but it just did the same thing to me when I brought up the registration screen. I checked my firewall and adblocker settings and that doesn't seem to be the problem. I know they recently had to reupload the site after a hacker broke in and messed with things; maybe that part hasn't been fixed yet. Sorry I can't help further.

CD's been having some problems since the whole hacker thing, but they're prolly working on it. For example: stories that I post don't show up in the 'most recent list' anymore and I get an SQL error at times. I guess you just need to be patient... sorry can't help you any more...

Crikey, Echoes. Now I'm only going to say this once. squeeeee!!!!!! There. All better. We shall never speak of that again

It is one of my favourites. In terms of a character ep, I actually think it is better than Sunday, as it showcases all/more of them. Gotta say I loved the Spanky in this, although I didn't really get the sexual vibe from it. Ronon and Teyla had some great scenes here. And Kate! There's how you use a supporting character appropriately (plus Lorne and Zelenka too).

I was completely unspoiled for this ep. The synopsis made it sound terrible. Eri is right - the science is a bit wonky - but who cares. For once, the story was more about the characters than the actual plot. But I would say it was mighty convenient for that CME to shoot out directly at the Deadalus, in exactly the right dimensions for the shield

Favourite line: what do you mean NO?
Favourite scene: pretty much everything that happened on Atlantis; on the Deadalus, not so much

What you said about Spanky just made me think of something. At first when Teyla did the splits on the bed while Ronon was hovering we all got that whoa!UST feeling. But as the relationship progressed some fans grew to see more of a sibling relationship. Yet we had tons of touching, smiling, and cutesy scenes with them. What happened to the UST? And why, the closer they got the less romantic they seemed? Would that have happened with Sparky? Or Sheyla? Romantic screen chemistry IMHO is a terribly rare thing and hard to define. The eye of the beholder is the only thing that really determines it. Look at McShep. Some of us see a smokin' hot attraction and others see two guys who are friends acting like guys. There are a good number of people who can give examples of how they aren't friends at all.

It a puzzlement and as different as the people watching.

I often wonder, when i watch this scene, was there a little joking before hand of Joe dropping her that for the filming she wasn't going to trust him! Anyone listened to the commentary for this scene? Anything interesting?
I've listened to the commentary but don't remember anything particular about it. Generally, if it's something I really like or is pertinent to something I like, I'll remember there being a hint of it (though I TOTALLY missed the Sparky end comment after "Coup d' Etat") but all I remember is being kinda disappointed in Echoes. I think FH mentioned that the director was one of the two guys who did the commentary, but both guys, to me, were very dry and kinda hard to listen to. The only thing I remember clearly was when Weir fainted, then they both do this cute little remark that went something like 'uh oh, that's not good.'

I'm sure that viewer perception is truly at the core of it. My love of 'coupledom' comes not from sexual tension alone, but how well characters get along. I'm more convinced a relationship will work if the two characters have a depth of friendship as well as an attraction. I totally buy into sizzle, but I'm not convinced it'll be a good 'ship if all they seem to want or need to do is take a tumble in the sheets.

That's probably why my favorite type of stories center around the dramatic episodes of two people who have been buddies forever suddenly encountering a situation where threatened with one's loss, and the feelings become clear. It's a bit cliche, I know, but in terms of fictionalized romance, it's the most fun.

Sparky always sizzled for me personally, but my love for them as a potential couple really came from how much they were together as friends--comforting each other after hard days, defending honors, thinking alike, etc. That's why I was never sold on Sheyla--because though they wrote in 'romantic' moments, and I did see chemistry between Joe and Rachel, it never equaled the chemistry of Joe and Torri, nor, most importantly, did they give Shep and Teyla enough aside moments together. For me to buy into that relationship, I wanted more one-on-one moments like the scene in Michael, or to see Teyla comforting John after a hard day (like Common Ground, for example) or John checking in on Teyla worriedly after something happened to her. Contrasting how he acted with both women--you see him never leave Weir's side in "The Real World", but when Teyla's sick in "Echoes" the best you get is him happening to stroll over to Teyla's bed after he's carried Elizabeth to the infirmary.

Spanky was a favorite, but since neither character was my favorite, I was fine with however it went. But I always though Ronon and Teyla's closeness as friends could have gone straight into a relationship with very few batting an eye. For 'truer' Spankies, it was deeper than that, and for those who liked either character with someone else, it was simply friendship. All in perception.

I liked the Spanky in this episode, too, though I don't get the sexual/romantic vibe from it either. Siblings, I guess. But they're cute together and the meditation scenes were some of my favourites.

I think both Ronon and Teyla are both very attuned to each other's feelings. It's no surprise that Ronon knew about Kanaan and John and Rodney didn't. (Hey, Elizabeth did too!)

Okay, it's time for a revisit to Zero Point Snark. In the early days and up until Progeny, they were recapping each ep in the most hilarious and frequently profane manner possible. I recall laughing until my sides ached every week. As far as I know Spanky first appeared in a poll as a possible name for Ronon/Teyla and just went from there. Someone else may recall all the details.

The above link is for Condemned, but you really should back up to the beginning. Totally Sparky with a hefty dose of Shep!OMG throughout.

I don't ever see spanky as sibling. That just makes me go eeeekk because i have a brother and no just no. I do see Ronon/Teyla as two people who were obviously attracted to each other (beginning of season 2) but for some reason moved past that into really good friendship. Maybe it was because Ronon wasn't ready at that time to start anything with anyone and Teyla understood. Ronon and Teyla do have a connection, it was pretty obvious in season 2, they understand each other like the rest can't. Some of it it's because they are from the Pegasus Galaxy and they both have lost so much, they know that, they get each other. Trinity comes to mind. In my head why Ronon and Teyla didn't happen was bad timing. Ronon was finally able to move on from Melena in s4 but by that time Teyla was in a relationship with someone else. I'm not looking at this as angsty because that's not how it comes across but hey we could have had something but we didn't.

I love me some UST but at some point it has to move beyond that or it does get boring. As long as the UST comes with friendship I can live with it lasting a long time, but if it's just two people that never talk to each other (sheyla) I just don't see it. For example I'm watching Fringe and I just could not get into Olivia/Peter but last nights episode sold me. I see it. I think it's mainly because they actually talk and are developing a deep friendship.
