Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Good evening, Sparkies!
I've got a Sparky!family fic rec for you...
For the Rain, by peanutbutterer. Currently a work in progress; Part 1 and Part 2 are online, with two more parts to come. This is an AU fic; FBI Agent John Sheppard is about to get a new partner... a woman he never thought he'd see again. (Should be obvious who that is!) Also featuring appearances by Rodney, Carter, Mitchell, O'Neill, Lorne and Ford. There's lots of crazy-fun snark that's very reminiscent of NCIS and very juicy UST going on between John and Elizabeth.
Happy reading!(This is legal notice that any attempt to censor or delete, for the purpose of oppressing fair and open discussion, any statement made by me will be considered a violation of my right to free speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and will be dealt with in accordance with federal law.)

Sorry I missed posting again, guys. This time the computer was hijacked by persons of more power than myself.
Originally posted by Anuna View PostWhile I agree on the absolute win in the romantic field, let me just add, that as a therapist, I hate tragic romances. Too many people actually believe love can't be anything else but tragedy, and while these stories can be .... entertaining? (I became way too cynical) I'm tired of tragic romances and effect they have on ordinary people.
To me, John and Elizabeth represent the mature love, not just the breathless passion but the hows and whys a particular person touches your life and makes it different, the way you choose to change. I said it many times, I'll say it again; what fascinates me is the premise of "I can be without you, but I choose not to." That's how I see them. They are very inspiring and for one I won't let their story "end" in canon (fanon is so much more fun!) but I'm glad the canon confirms it. John's life is changed, it's better, it has more meaning because of Elizabeth and what she had done for him, and I wouldn't call that a tragedy. In reality, people come and go. The ones we remeber, the ones that change us; they never really leave us. *sigh*
But since Elizabeth is gone, the events in "Prodigal" emphasize all the more the other scenes I mentioned. I couldn't have argued that earlier seeing how we didn't know how other ships would development, but as the show draws to a close, I think the argument gains validity.

Totally agree there. I don't like the tragic aspect that Sparky has taken on in canon (I'd much prefer them to be alive and together), but I'd rather take a tragic "one is dead, the other is a devoted widower" than watch the one left take up with a choice that's second best. Or maybe I'm just a bitter b*tch who's into scorched earth.
Because of that it can be categorized and classified, and I have fun analyzing it because I'm an officially degree-d English nerd. Romanticism is a genre, not a way of life. I appreciate tragic characters as much as heroic characters and anything else--but they're all fiction in the end. They have elements that can reflect and compare to real humans, but their worlds are imagined and their lives plotted out. You're not a bitter person for seeing, or even being fine with, the tragic element of the characters. To me, that's just being a literature nerd.

And I'm 31, by the way. And in my head, I still refer to myself as a 'little girl'. Is that weird?Visit SGArising.com to read our virtual continuation of the Atlantis series!

Originally posted by Eri13 View PostI agree with you here--my thoughts are in retrospect. I'm the ultimate happy ending advocate; I don't by the 'dark and dismal' endings for many things as the only way to be 'realistic'. I'm an optimist and try and see the good in everything.

Originally posted by Eri13 View PostI don't think you're that! I will say that you can't compare any show to 'real life'. It's a show--a story. One that's written and imagined, not lived. Writers draw inspiration from life, but all aspects of the written word are controlled (even when we say our characters write themselves).
