*snickers* Except when they're carefully controlled "stunts" like climbing the main tower in Quarantine.

At least we got to see his skimboard and skateboard in John's room and hear him talk about surfing (finding that surfing spot on the newly-discovered mainland on Lantea with the "sweet breakers" in Suspicion). And of course, there's always golf. And before anyone says golf's not an extreme sport, just try telling that to anyone who's ever played St. Andrews in Scotland.

Still, wouldn't it have been cool to see some more downtime activities on Atlantis? Couldn't you just imagine the Air Force guys challenging the Marines to a game of football? If you think the betting on the Ronon vs. Teal'c smackdown was fierce...

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Clichés suck. But then, we already knew that TPTW don't have a single original bone in their bodies.

              So true.
              Spoiler:
Having Kolya mock John for losing Elizabeth would be really juicy. But noooo, TPTW wouldn't dare do anything that logical!

Oh, how I lack good shippy moments in my 'ship areas:

-- Dumping Sparky. And by dumping Elizabeth they pretty much dumped Atlantis. J/E had (and have) great chemistry as shown in the good years and even in the bad ones. Don't fix what isn't broken, 'tards.
-- Lack of Carson/Teyla. My minor ship suffers when it is shoehorned into the 'less important friendships' to make room for cringeworthy 'ship attempts between Teyla and a certain other team member starting with a 'J'. Sheesh. What, all I get is a 'hi'?

I'm sure Falcon can relate with me on that second point.

Oh! I even heard about that one. Refused to watch it...

Yup. Into the sewer. Ah well, TPTW have started paying the price for their mistake. They've had the show canceled from underneath their feet. *snerks*

Fanfic rules, canon drools, and Sparky reigns forever.

Yeah, WTF? Carson and Teyla always seemed so close before the Bloody Tumor Fiasco, and now it's like they don't even know each other. Just cause he's a clone and doesn't have the memories of Season 3 doesn't make him any less Carson! I think TPTW need to meet the business end of one of Carson's needles.

Which some would defend that they knew they were going to be cancelled and it wasn't about quality. Or that "big drop in viewership" in S3, because, ironically enough, the renewal of the show depends on the season of two years prior ratings, so I hear. S4 was renewed based on S2, S5 on S3, and S6 would be on S4, but you know the rest.

Just one of the many ways Atlantis went wrong and one of the few easy ways you could fix it.

Yeah, I'm sad the only people he gets to spend time with are John and Rodney (and Keller because we have to show that he likes her). I can see the emphasis on Rodney, but why not split his time with Ronon and Teyla too? Should have had some Lizzie time too, but for TPTB you can't stick more than one Dead-or-Not Favourite Character in the same episode.

Diverging a little from the topic, I always thought Teyla seems much closer to Ronon, Carson, and Lorne than John, and at times she seems more at ease with Rodney, too. Teyla acts very different when with the former -- when with Ronon, Carson and Lorne she's much more ... comfortable and the feng shui is right with them.

With John, she's different -- much more uptight, orderly, stoic, whether when relaxing or in the field. She doesn't seem as at ease with him. And it's only with Teyla/John that you get this odd awkwardness. It's more rigid. I never got the sense that they were as close as many people make them out to be. (Or TPTB intended them to be.)

*snickers* Yup, I can just hear it now... "We're gonna get canceled anyway, so let's just make up all sorts of sh*t and throw it on the wall and whatever sticks, we'll do it!"

And the ratings get even more skewed when you remember that they didn't even start counting DVR/Tivo numbers until last season. So those supposedly higher numbers for S4 and S5... aren't.

That part in particular really sucks even more because Carson and Lizzie were pretty close, too. Lizzie, Carson and Rodney (along with Ford and Grodin) were the only major/recurring characters we saw already working in Antarctica before moving to Atlantis. Rodney's the only one left with a significant amount of screen time, and there's not much to show for it.

Yes! And John is the same stiff, formal way with Teyla, yet he's so much more relaxed with anyone other than Teyla. Hell, he's more buddy-buddy with Woolsey, for pity's sake! Some people would no doubt try to argue that John and Teyla are so uncomfortable with each other because they supposedly have "hidden feelings" for each other, but after five years, that argument loses any credibility.

I haven't seen John's relationship with Teyla evolve one bit since season one -- other than the fact the more she calls him "John" I'm getting slightly more unnerved given the circumstances. (*cough*SearchandRescue*cough*.) Buddy/buddy with Woolsey, he sure is -- I think the last "Boston Legal" act on Sparky's balcony proved it all, no matter how out of character it is for them to become so close so fast. (I'm still deciding if John is Denny or Alan Shore.) John and Teyla beat each other with sticks. They don't watch whales. They don't meditate. They don't chug beer. They don't joke with each other. They work together and sit at the same table. They don't drink coffee, they don't make each other giggle, he doesn't sit on the table she's at, and most of all, they do not have their own balcony.
