Common Ground! This episode features some of my favorite things in SGA... Shep!whump, Diplomat!Lizzie, Kolya being his usual b*stardly self, the Wraith, action, rescues, politics, it's all here.

Eri, I'm glad you mentioned the moments where Elizabeth and Ronon have got each other's backs. We never got to see the two of them interact directly with each other very much while she was on the show, though it's clear from Ronon's farewell to her while she's in a coma in Adrift that he's come to trust and respect her a great deal. Seeing her deal with critical situations like the one in CG no doubt helped form that trust, and I wish we could have seen more moments like this.

The twist with Todd restoring John's life and youth at the end was really cool. It was pretty obvious to me that getting John back to normal by the end of the episode had to involve something Wraithy, but Todd's line implying that John was a "brother" Wraith for helping Todd escape was unexpected, and I ate it up with glee. The rather curious not-really-friends but not-really-enemies relationship that's developed between John and Todd since CG has been one of the very few interesting things to come out of Seasons 4 and 5.

We definitely should have gotten a final scene with John and Elizabeth. Given how deeply involved she was with the entire story, from the discussions with Ladon to the negotiations with Kolya, the episode feels unfinished without a reunion scene. Because of that, I'm with Anuna in being a post-CG fic junkie. So, in honor of angst/drama day here on the Sparky thread... I've got a fic rec!

Marked, by miera. In the aftermath of The Real World and Common Ground, John and Elizabeth have found a unique way to cope with their demons. Rated a hard R for darkness and smut.

    Angsty reading!

      Spoiler:
Caught off guard, John Sheppard threw both hands up in front of his face and grabbed the garment that came flying at his head.

“Wha...the..” he stammered as he stood holding the red shirt in one fist and staring open mouthed at the woman who had thrown it at him.

Shortly after they had entered the transporter, Elizabeth Weir had let out a piercing scream and started slapping frantically at her own chest and neck. Then she stripped her shirt off and tossed it in John's direction. Currently she was spinning in a circle like a dog chasing its tail and trying to look over her shoulder while still slapping at herself.

“Elizabeth!” John gasped, puzzled. “What are you doing?”

      “Sp...spi...spider!” She shuttered with revulsion.

John got the picture, but before he could intervene she had rid herself of her shoes without untying the laces and stripped off her pants faster than John had thought possible. These too came sailing in his direction. Now he was left standing, holding the red shirt in his left hand and the gray pants, which he had caught by one leg, in his right. The fact that his beautiful boss was standing in front of him wearing nothing but a pale pink bra that was made of that satiny material that he had only seen in ads for Victoria's Secret and equally pale pink and shimmery and very tiny bikini panties left him in a state of semi-paralysis.

Elizabeth had stopped spinning and realized that her eight-legged friend had moved on. She was sure of it when she looked over at John and saw the creature perched on his shoulder. Both inhabitants of the transporter froze for a moment, Elizabeth unsure how to proceed and unmindful of her own near nudity and John oblivious to the developing situation with the spider and extremely conscious of his companion's state of undress.

Elizabeth recovered first. “John.” She spoke very softly and clearly. “Don't panic now, but there is a very large spider on your left shoulder.”

John remained frozen. His eyes couldn't decide whether to stay with the pink bra that dipped so dangerously low in the front or to move on past the little panties and down the expanse of long legs. His eyes decided on their own to do all that and then come about half way back up again.

“John.” Elizabeth spoke a little louder. “Drop my clothes and move away.” As if to punctuate her remarks, she pointed at the spider who now seemed to be contemplating whether to go for the neck or move down the bicep.

The spider moved first. And when John felt the eight legs tickling his skin he let go of the garments he was holding and grabbed for his own neck. The spider took the opportunity to head under the neckline of his black tee shirt.

Elizabeth was dancing from one foot to the other. “It's in your shirt. It's in your shirt!” Her volume increased with every word.

John grabbed his shirttail and pulled upward. Tee shirt and spider flew into a corner where they lay without moving. John's heavy combat boot turned the shirt into a mass of wrinkles and bits of dried mud and the spider into a gooey glob.

The crisis over, John and Elizabeth looked at each other with growing horror. The chilly air had brought out goosebumps on both their skins which only increased when each realized that they were being inspected by the other. John was starting to feel slightly guilty for the ogling he had done of Elizabeth earlier but it was too late to do anything about the crooked grin that was still on his face or the difficulty he was having keeping his eyes above her collarbone.

Elizabeth, on the other hand, was just beginning to notice the broad chest with its light coating of hair that seemed to narrow to a darker line before disappearing into his pants, which had slipped precariously low on his slim hips. A few gray hairs were reflected in the light glinting off the dog tags that lay in the middle of his breastbone. Elizabeth clinched her fists against the sudden desire to grab the chain around his tan neck and just tug. The sudden realization that she was practically naked stopped her and got her moving at the same time. Quickly she turned her back and retrieved her pieces of clothing from the floor where John had dropped them.

“Oh geez, Elizabeth,” John finally found his voice, “I am so sorry. I...I didn't mean.”

“ 's okay.” Her voice was muffled until her head popped out of the neck of her shirt. She tugged at her clothes which were now back on her body where they belonged and tried not to look at John.

John stared in regret at his ruined tee shirt. Gingerly he picked it up by one sleeve and inspected the bits of dirt and spider guts clinging to it. “I'll just...um...” He nodded toward the now open door of the transporter.

Elizabeth, having slipped her feet into her shoes and still refusing to meet his eyes, hurried into the corridor. “And we'll never speak of this again.”

With the garment he was no longer able to wear balled up in one fist, John fell into step beside her. Elizabeth seemed to be racing to get away from him but he just walked a bit faster and a few steps closer. “So, we find out the great Doctor Weir is afraid of spiders.” he teased. “Tell me Elizabeth, what would you have done if it had been a snake?”

      Oh and an illustration. Heh.

      Spoiler:
OMFG! That's hilarious! And the pic with the cute little spider is the perfect crowning touch!

The angst they could've had. Not to mention ratings *whistles*
Ohhhhhh, it would've been awesome if they'd done that! I've always thought the Genii were underdeveloped, and their status as enemies to Atlantis was cut short way too soon (as so many other things on the show were).

Okay, update on the Saturday post-a-thon: Falcon Horus, Anuna, Eri13 (tentative), Reiko (tentative) and I are in for 2-4:30 pm Pacific. Anyone else want to jump in? We've got plenty of room for more!

Also, with two and a half hours in that slot, we could easily fit in all three episodes leading up to The Storm/The Eye. That way, we can do TS/TE together in the next thon instead of breaking them up (which would just totally go against the laws of nature). How does that sound to everyone?

^ That sounds good. It's likely I'll be able to make it, but I'm too lazy to walk twenty metres to check the calendar for sure at the moment.

Erm, for some parts, like where I live -- I think the US (and Canada) stretched over 3 or 4 time zones if I'm not mistaken. So I think some of the US people here are ahead of that. (Time comes latest where I live.)

The continental USA (basically, everything except for Alaska and Hawaii) is covered by 4 different time zones. Pacific Time covers most of the west coast of the US (except for Alaska) and Canada.

This might be helpful: interactive world time zone map. More info on time zones in general, and a list of time zones and the countries/regions they cover.
