Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
That siggy banner is just breathtaking! But where were you last couple of days? We missed you for purely selfish reasons of course - we like when someone spoils us with such pretty artwork!
Sorry I've been away all day... but participating in angst/drama day would probably have killed my good mood, so I won't go there tonight.
So, episode discussion! Grace Under Pressure:
Like "Epiphany," GUP is an episode where one team member is separated from the others, who must work together and find a way to save the lost one; in this case, Rodney. "Epiphany" seemed to me to be the more serious of these two episodes; there isn't really a whole lot of humor there, and I think that's due in large part to the fact that it's John, normally the source of the tension-breaking wisecracks, who's trapped (and obviously not in the mood for being funny).
But GUP cracked me up (in a good way). When I watch SGA, I have a tendency to get snarky, talking back to the characters, etc. In the case of this episode, I had a field day with snarking at McKay and basically telling him to shut up and listen to Sam, because she's right, which means a small part of him doesn't agree with the rest of him, which means that, gee, Rodney, you're not so damn perfect, are you?
Yeah, snarky.
I agree with Eri that Sam really works better on SGA as a guest character; here, she adds to the story, rather than wasting screen time that could be better used by another character, as she did in S4. I really liked Hallucination!Sam in GUP; she kept Rodney focused on the problem, no matter how much he tried to avoid it for the sake of "being right."
Elizabeth and John were, in a word, adorkable. Even in the midst of a crisis situation involving a teammate and close friend, they still managed to find moments of gentleness and humor that make them look all the more human. Their interactions here are important in getting back to the comparison with "Epiphany" and how it seems to lack humor. In GUP, unlike in "Epiphany," John is right there to keep Elizabeth's (and everyone else's) mood up. In "Epiphany," the team's determination to get John back is fueled by grave resolve and fears of what they may find; in GUP, their determination to get Rodney back comes from a quiet confidence born of their sense of camraderie and companionship. It's an interesting juxtaposition.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.
A word of warning, however: Make sure you do not eat or drink anything while reading this fic. Because you'll probably spray it all over your monitor when you start laughing your *ss off!
