I haven't posted in a while but I have been so impressed with this thread staying at number 3 in views even through the unmentionable events of season 3. You guys rock.

On a side note, I'm posting from an Internet Cafe in Iasi, Romania. I'm here for some medical stuff...it's been pretty interesting so far.

That wasn't right of Elizabeth, but again, I don't get the sense that she was as attached to Simon as the idea of Simon--a safety net, so to speak, of normalcy. I think Elizabeth needs her grounding elements, or at least the idea of grounding elements, before she takes off on something crazy. But she enjoys the crazy.

No way were they married. Long term relationship maybe but married, certainly not. You are so right with what you said there.

Sorry I haven't been joining in on the discussion - past few days have been busy at work and my weekend was packed.

Just wanted to pop on and say "Great discussion points - I love reading all the posts!"

Yeah...I haven't decided how to handle discussions through Season 4...I'm probably going to have to claim byes on Sunday and especially First Strike in S3...and I HATE the thought of going so downer in S4--and yet, I want to discuss the total sparky of Adrift and Lifeline.

But I might end it there--and if someone wants to pick up TMC, they can. I don't have heart for that one...

Re the Ronon/Weir relationship it's one I have always found interesting. Probably because it was barely touched upon (off the top of my head - Duet, CG and Adrift). It is an interesting progression for two polar opposites. More on that next season though.

I do agree that the element of trust comes into the decision to keep Ronon around. Based on what they know of him, he is a flight risk. John thinks he can mould Ronon into one of their team, and doesn't so much ask Weir to trust Ronon as he does to trust him and his ability to keep him in line.

Ronon / Weir relationship is one of more interesting things to write about, especially because we sow just a little bit on screen. We know Elizabeth is good in reading people and that somewhere in S2 she earned Ronon's trust. You don't get Ronon's trust so easily, and that's something I like about him so much. I also think that first person he trusted to was Teyla (we saw that in Duet - she's the only one capable treating him as an equal, not just in physical but in psychological way. When she looks at him, she sees more than scary frowning, things - smashing warrior; the others need a little bit more time to see through his rough but somewhat simple mask. He's straightforward and honest - just like John is - and that makes me love this character a lot.), and then John. I'll take a little bit more romantic point of view here and say besides the fact that Elizabeth trusts John to keep Ronon in line, she probably thinks Ronon deserves a new home, new chance - and just like she gave a new chance to John a year ago, now she does the same for Ronon. That's what Ronon is talking about in Adrift, and that is one of very rare moments of S4 I like. Bottom line, we get a new, interesting character that will prove to be more than TPTB are capable of handling... again....

I think Elizabeth trusts Johns decision on Ronon because after talking with Ronon she can see that Ronon is blunt, he says what he thinks and doesn't suger-coat things, with Ronon what you see is pretty much what you get at least initially he does have a softer side but that didn't come out at the beginning. This honesty probably came for his isolation. For someone with a back ground in diplomacy I think she would have found Ronon's honesty refreshing. It also means that any problems Ronon might cause would be easier to see coming.

Exactly, he doesn't sugar coat things. I remember writing The Secret Marriage and wondering - for the first time really - what kind of reaction would Ronon have when his friends were in trouble. It was nice writing him as Elizabeth's companion and "discovering" his somewhat softer side. Elizabeth respects honesty; it's something I believe she respects in John and now in Ronon too.

I love their interaction in CG. Not just because he questions her judgment, but because on the flip side she controls him. He's a bit like a grumpy watchdog in that episode.

Elizabeth does end up caring about Ronon (her avid support of John versus Caldwell in Sateda) but that relationship is a bit like her relationship with Teyla--only brought out in certain points. *shakes fist at lack of continuity*

As for today--more on Duet. Do you guys want questions or games?

Both! I can't really decide which one I'd like more. CG is one of those episodes that has good story, amazing acting and that subtle, invisible thing that binds all of them together. In those scenes when the watch John being tortured they react like a single being, not five different people. TPTB don't know what they have lost... bring me the fanfic, damnit.

Well, we can conveniently stay away from S4. I know I'd prefer that. It's a subject that makes my stomach turn. Instead there are different ways in which we could discuss what we have - and that is the best of SGA after all. We could do our own alternate universe or something - there are lots of ways to have fun around here.

Anyway. I haven't said much on Duet - it's probably my favorite SGA episode, due to the comedy factor. I'm not the biggest fan of the Rodney show, but here? It's perfect. David rocks. The whole episode rocks, from the "A date Rodney? With a woman?" right down to "Fumbles McStupid" and the infamous Cadman in Rodney's body kissing Carson. Rodney with Cadman stuck in his head is obviously the main story, but I like how nobody was neglected in this episode - like Eri said we saw many interesting duets here, but before I continue may I just say for the record how Cadman is made of win?! She shoudl have been in the main cast damn it, that girl was capable of stealing the show from freakin' Rodney with her voice only!

Among better duets, aside from Sparky is Ronon /Teyla - because Ronon adds something special that makes Teyla shine. In every scene those two have together we can finally see what she's all about. No other character can bring that out in quite the same way, those two simply fit together. I mean...

Can you think of another duet in this show where the lady can put the guy in place with just mere look? Spanky is so very much like Sparky. They balance each other out.

Other duet I enjoyed are John and Ronon. I wasn't sure why at first, but think of it - after losing Ford again, John found somebody who needs a home just as badly as he needed it back in season 1. I think John and Ronon are very similar, only Ronon is less smartass, more action kind of man - more mature too. Both are fiercly loyal and ready to do anything to protect their people, and I think those traits are what makes them a good duet. The scene with table manners cracks me up every time - bless Ronon, he's a big cuddly teddy bear under that rough exterior.

I love sparky moments in this episode - there are some of the classic mom and dad moments:



And one of the best flirt scenes in Stargate ever: "I haven't said yes" "But you were going to". Who can resist puppy eyed John?





On a more serious note, there is so much underlying trust in their interactions, and some kind of ease, routine, you can pick up on the change easily. They are different than in season 1, they are a real duet now. The connection between John and Elizabeth now is stronger, tested by number of difficult situations - they are ready for new tests and the next big one is coming soon.

In the first half of season 2 I think the writers had an idea what they were doing. i can see them loosing the thread somewhere near the end of the season... *sigh* - but these discussions are way too good. You ahve no idea how inspiring these conversations are.
