Heard about that one. Gateraid said it's pretty good (but the same Gateraid said my stories are pretty good and that decreases the credibility of that statement quite considerably)

Read the story first, before you make any judgment. I am sure all writers love constructive criticism.

Don't worry, I'll read it alright (and maybe even turn a blind eye if Anuna violates the laws of physics). I'm among those, who gave Whining baby a fair chance to show what she can do (and then Doppelganger and Missing aired...)

Hi all! I just wanted to drop in and say I'll start "Intruder" discussion today, but I have a tour for high schoolers at our studio, so it'll be a while.

No kidding? gateraid read TSM? Ooooooooooooo.

I wasn't dealing with laws of physics all that much, but there is ton of psychological fallout in there. Before you start, read the warnings. Nothing I mentioned in them is described in detail, but that doesn't mean the story isn't painful to read. From psychological point of view the situation is handled realistically and I hope you'll find that satisfying. I'm very proud with the job I did.

I've got what you've sent me. Off to read now.

Oh great! I love that episode and I loved writing a smuthaton entry for it!
I'm not weird, I'm limited edition.

Hay-o Sparkies! Many of season 2's episodes I'll be short with pictures on, but this one I have to go the whole she-bang because it's one of my favorite episodes.

              Intruder

I honestly love how this episode begins. After the Siege series, it's a quite moment, and everything feels peaceful because you know they've been back to Earth. The Daedalus is a cool setting for this story, and we get a Sparky moment right off the bat:

Love how subtle the smile is here from John

I ADORE this moment. Not only because she completely catches him off guard, but because it's such a comfortable Liz/John interaction--and a textbook Sparky moment. Her little smirk at the end because of his expression is perfect! And I love the fact that she lets him know up front who is responsible for his promotion and position.

I mentioned I love Mitch Pileggi, and I am glad they considered him a recurring regular, because I really do like Stephen Caldwell. In part, because his relationship with Elizabeth is rather complicated, and I enjoy seeing them interact. There is a mutual respect for position, but a battle over control. And a slight personal issue between them, too, over John's appointment. I like how John sorta stays out of the way with Caldwell.

Right as Caldwell calls Elizabeth over for a 'private discussion' about rank and authority, John makes this face. Think he knows the earful Caldwell's about to get? Yep, John, that's your girl!

              Sassy Lizzie...

And we go into the first of our flashback moments--which I really love about this episode. This, of course, is one of my absolute favorites. Not only because of content, but I love they way they frame it and film it--a really cool, sorta sepia toned filter over the film:

He looks so unassuming, sorta like 'what, me? Oh, how nice.' Yeah, you haven't gone up against the real Weir yet.

The first of many really awesome Liz outfits when she's away from base

And, of course, we find out exactly how John got his promotion and position back. WOW. I loved Elizabeth at this point, but when I got to see her dialogue in this scene, I totally fangirled. SHE'S SO AWESOME!

I mentioned I really like Hermiod in the Siege series, so of course I love him here. What cracks me up is how comfortable Rodney is with him. He takes the whole alien thing in stride, and they're about of equal mind and temper. No one can match Rodney for arrogance except an Asgard *snickers*

On the commentary, director Peter Deluise mentions how this look wasn't entirely fake. Apparently Joe Flanigan was as weirded out by the Hermiod puppet as John was with Hermiod himself. So they included Joe's attitude as John's attitude.

Ah...and then the trouble begins. I give total props to this actor for his death scene:

One of the best things about Intruder for me is how the trio of Atlantis personnel feels like a team/family amidst the Daedalus crew. They're so close, and they act like it.

Atlantis's Three Musketeers--as it should always have stayed.

The next flashback is a scene I thought was really well done--not just Elizabeth's gentle inquiry over Simon's position, but also her reaction to finding out he was waffling:

His girlfriend just returned from an intergalactic mission and almost certain death, and he's chopping onions? What a doof.

              More to come...

Okay, we found out the problem is an AI virus. *whut?*

One major gripe with this situation--Rodney steals the thunder. Yes, I know all the mechanical aspects would be his field, but I hate how Liz stands around just looking pretty.

Elizabeth broke the code on Wraith-speak--are you really telling me Rodney's now learned everything to the point where she's totally useless? At least have the poor woman help with the translation!

At least John gets to contribute. Though I'm not sure how smart shooting something on your own ship is, the situation leads to another cute moment, and a personal one for John.

His interaction with Elizabeth is nice--how reassuring she is and won't let him know the danger he faces, though you get the general idea he knows. And I like the balancing of the danger with the flashback about Ford.

Plus, we get to see Joe in civvies, which is never a bad thing.

I thought Aiden's cousin was really well written. And the actress who played her did a good job.

Ten fingers, Ten toes...welcome to one of the best SGA smut jump-off points series wide.

I love the rapport here. They are so comfortable in each other's presence.

Liz and John have always shared scenes, but I want to say that this episode really introduces 'attached at the hip'.

And now...the moment we've all been waiting for. I was never a fan of Elizabeth's necklace--and I'm glad to see it's been given the boot. Considering how most of Stargate: Atlantis is pretty straightforward, I enjoyed the dark/light/snuffing out of the candle symbolism here.

And can I just say--I know she left him behind, but I can't believe he cheated on her. I know the situation was hard for him, but didn't he get the taped message she sent? Simon totally doesn't deserve her. >8D

This was not my favorite Liz top, but it's good enough for him.

I also enjoyed the notion of the Virus getting out of control here and the amount of suspense it built. Again, I'm not sold on the technical explanation, but anything that gets us some good action sequences, I'm game for.

Wonder what they were doing when the lights went out.

Part 3 puts us into the Rodney/John comedy hour--which, I have to admit, is probably the second best pairing on Atlantis. I do enjoy Ronon and Teyla, but I think Rodney and John have been at it longer and are easy to write dialogue for (the only better ones are Rodney/Zelenka and John/Elizabeth).

                    This cracks me up.

                    We should be dead...

Interesting commentary fact two--they only had one or two models of the cockpit--so as Rodney and John are going through ripping out the black boxes, the crew switched up the decorations inside to make them appear more personal. One prop, 10 different looks.

Once again, it's the Atlantis crew to save the day. Thank goodness they're on board, because what would the Daedalus have done if they weren't? *snickers*

The exciting fighter chase scene was suspenseful and fun to watch. Especially with Rodney grumbling in the back about his complexion and the air in the cockpit--it was both funny and exciting. I actually did enjoy Elizabeth's conversation with Hermiod, she acted a bit like Daniel with the Asgard, not really seeming fazed that he was an Asgard. And she's kinda cute when she gets worried about them--which he sort of recognizes. He's kinder to her than to the others.

                    Even Asgards get crushes...

The return to Atlantis is a nice wrap up to the show. We get to see Atlantis in working order, survived after the Siege, and preparing for a larger expedition.

Even here the connection is palpable. She gives him such a goofy grin.

I really like the ending focuses on Elizabeth--since the majority of the flashbacks focused on Elizabeth, this scene brings everything to closure. We know she's broken up with Simon, but is she alright with it? Yes--because she's home (and a bit of a workaholic). But it's nice how Teyla tries to protect her and Elizabeth's all about the city once more.

I think, if I had to pinpoint what I like about Intruder, I'd probably say it's because we get to see the connection of the three leads off Atlantis, and how their bond is so strong at this point they are completely a team. They look out for each other, interact easily, and obviously care about one another. Everything related to Earth is slowly fading out of their lives. John still has the present day story of Ford's disappearance to contend with, but overall, their home is Atlantis, and that's what shows at the end of the episode, as Elizabeth gets back to work.

Intruder is a character story for John, Elizabeth and Rodney, and I really love they get something like it early in Season 2. It establishes the rapport we're going to expect for the rest of the season, and how life has changed and altered from Season 1.

Sparky-wise, we have the beginning of a new phase for Elizabeth and John--a more personal connection, and one unhindered by the lingering presence of Simon. And that's just good all around.

                      1) Who do you think was more upset over the potential loss of the other: John or Elizabeth?

I think both of them were equally upset about losing one another. I mean they are both equally valuable to the atlantis expedition and i think if one was to lose another it would crush them i know i would be crush too if i lost someone close to me. but John decided to Sacrifice himself to save the place he calls "home" and i believe that elizabeth was relcutant to let him go and when john heard that the darts crashed into the city shields i believe john was going to die cause he may have lost his home and the person he cared about.

                      2) Do you think the 'end' of Colonel Everett was weak or strong, and why?

It was good - it did Everett justice, but to John too. That moment when John salutes... it feels like he's forgiven for what he did to Sumner - or shall I say for sumner. Everett acknowledged John, everything fell into place and it was such a sad, poignant moment for both men.

                      3) What did you think about John's plan to attack the Wraith fleet head on?

                      Yeah It's what i would've done.

                      4) Is Hermiod funny or just...weird?

I always crack up every time he swears in asgard

                      5) Did you like how Aiden Ford was written out?
Personally, Yes I like Ronan better than ford. Ronan is the teal'c of the pegasus galaxy.

                      6) Does Elizabeth really believe what she tells John at the end about Ford, or is she placating him?

Yes I believe she does believe what she said or else she was just being contradicting

                      Comment

i think intruder was an awesome episode. dont ask me why.
i think there was much sparky in there and the storyline wasnt bad either. yes, basicly it was a copy from an sg1 episode but i still liked it.

and *yaaay* lizzie is free now for john *rofl*

yeah, i know. little contrubution to this topic but still, better than non. i think its really exhausting to write long texts

John is definitely more visibly upset over the loss, but then Elizabeth had a bit more prep time (ie the lag beween when she let him go and the hive exploding)

                            2) Do you think the 'end' of Colonel Everett was weak or strong, and why?

Strong. He grew on me. Yes it was cliched, but when he did absolve John, and pass on the baton, so-to-speak, it was one of the few times that I have actually seen John as a real military figure (over the entire series)

                            3) What did you think about John's plan to attack the Wraith fleet head on?

Odd. Suddenly he has become a tactical whiz, what with his earlier advising to Caldwell also? I saw it as an attempt to paint him in good light. It was bold though, and given their tactical advantage (one on one) and the element of surprise, a good move.

                            4) Is Hermiod funny or just...weird?

Both. I loved Gero's comment when he beams up Ford "are you seeing this?"

                            5) Did you like how Aiden Ford was written out?

No. IDK what the rumours are (PM anyone) but I could take a guess. I liked his next few eps, but they just kind of left it hanging. We are meant to assume he is dead, I get that. But they haven't really tied up the loose ends relating to that character, or his actions. Or maybe they have, and it was just off screen (sounds like s4, doesn't it?)

The Sparky start was so cute. Nobody talks like that with their boss/co-worker.

My issue here is more of a plot one. It's that John promotion is made to seem that it's not earned through merit, it's because Elizabeth dug her heels in and said "he's staying as my 2ic, live with it". I thought it weakened both of their positions, and those that were not fans of Weir would have been fuming. I'm not saying that he didn't deserve it, merely that it was a poor way to go about it from a writing standpoint.

That said, I thought it was appropriate that Weir actually got to be, um, bolshy, with them, given that they had previously dissmissed her before her expedition had helped save Atlantis.

The Weir/Caldwell dynamic is interesting. She just kicks him right in the nuts with the "not the one you wanted though" comment. It is the first time we really get to see Liz questioned over her leadership style, especially over the fluid state of the chain of command. I would have liked to have seen Caldwell stay this way for much longer (to both John and Liz), instead of his softening.

I know this was the previous ep, but in Seige III, one thing that gets me every time is Torri's line reading of "sorry" to John when the radio comes back in. So cute, so unusual, so Torri

the weir/caldwell thing is a mix between: i hate you, i like you
