Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
Pocus, that's a good fic idea, but I really don't know what this compatibility test means. Ours don't do that.
Spoiler:
They preach to you how you should live your life, which I despise and I really don't want to do it. It's not like I don't have any idea whom I'll be marrying or how to deal with problems. Maybe I can do that better than some priest advises. Catholic priests... they are so... dense.
*headdesk*
I feel so bad after talking about this.... am I a bad person?!
No you are not a bad person. Seriously OT but dammit the girl needs advice.
Spoiler:
I can't speak to the Catholic church. I was raised Baptist and in their own way they are just as bad. My husband reluctantly went to "counseling" before we were married. It was supposed to be a session with the preacher about handling problems like the big 3...money, religion and sex. But it ended up being him and my husband talking about golf. He had known me all my life and said as soon as he met my fiancee he knew I was in safe hands. This is rare indeed but all religions have a form of premarital counseling, usually classes of a sort. If you want to marry in the church you have to go along. May I also say that Christianity is not a religion but a belief? Don't let the church turn you off God.
On topic, I wonder how John would get through a session like this. All you need to be legal is a marriage license that you sign. Anyone can do a ceremony. I think it would be a hoot if Teyla married them. LOL

I think how you manage finances is a good class to take regardless of your financial situations. How you handle money in a marriage is a big question. What you bring in, is that just yours or go into the pot ... same for his. How would you pay your bills. How would you save for the future, children and/or vacations? etc. I wish they did the classes with the married couples for you. They can share some really good tips. It's good to sit down & talk about the questions that will come up in your marriage.
Anyway, I hope they make it fun or try to.

That is always who I envisioned marrying them. Teyla and a shared cup of tea!
You're angels. Your eally are. I appreciate your points and your advices. My true issue here is what I believe in. I'm not really certain. I never felt comfortable in curch, I always felt guilty for something. In last few years I disenangled myself from Catholicism because it only brought me the feeling of being unfit and not good enough. So that's the catch. I doubt few sessions with some priest will solve *that*, its something I have to find on my own... and I think it's a lifetime journey.

Teyla and cup of tea... yes I can see that too.
OT
Spoiler:
I haven't gone to church in years other than a few funerals or baptisms. I feel that my beliefs have nothing to do with the building I am in or the format of ceremony I witness. I got tired of the hypocritical attitudes of my fellow church goers. I am a good person because I am, not because I know certain prayers or sit in a special place or make sure to show up for an hour once a week to pray in public. I am at peace with my beliefs and that is what makes me happy.
There.... I'm made of gutter... my mind is made of gutter... I'm a lost cause.
(((hugs))) Nobody is a lost cause. You're right to question. An open mind will lead the answers to you. *channels Yoda*
Now back to the gutter and turn that tea ceremony into something dirty. I imagine all that sitting still and head bowing would be much like trying to meditate to John...way too tree huggy. So his mind would probably wander.

Worse he could fall asleep. Imagine that disaster!!!

He could fall asleep and dream of the honeymoon. As long as Elizabeth didn't catch him sleeping. He could wake up dreamy-eyed and when she asked what that look was for he could just give her a knowing grin.

Awwww I can see that. I don't know why but for some reason I believe an Athosian wedding includes bonfire, lots of drink and loud singing. And dancing barefoot on the grass. Everybody is having such great fun so the don't notice when newel weds sneak out for an hour or so.... *naughty grin* Then they return with matching smiles on their faces.
