1) What do you think John was thinking, in a realistic sense, when Kolya said she was dead?

I agree with whoever said John was mentally sent back to Afghanistan. He failed to protect someone - again; and this time it could have been harder to take because he is the military leader now, the one who is responsible for everybody else... if I'm wrong on military take of things, please forgive me. I believe he felt regret and anger and some despair too. In that scene where he stands in the rain you can see him blinking away the tears, so i believe a part of him wanted to cry and scream but he told himself he would have to do it later (if ever. We know John and emotions). Something definitely snapped inside of him and that darkest part of his personality, one he considers a monster, broke its way out.

2) What was Kolya's strategy in telling John he'd killed Weir?

I don't think it was only meant to make John loose it, it was also aimed at McKay and Elizabeth - telling them you're at my mercy now, look what will I do to him (John). So I believe he wanted to hold all of them in his "grip", make John do something foolish, something that would probably result in his death, and assure Rodney's and Elizabeth's cooperation. Yet Kolya didn't know that John was a pretty deadly loose canon.

3) Why did Rodney step in front of the gun?

IMO Rodney is the hero. Yes he's arrogant and acts in self - preservative way, but when something really bad happens he stops thinking and starts acting. He didn't think. He didn't think "this is a gun and now I'll step in front of it", all he knew and wanted there was to protect Elizabeth. Very heroic and I heart Rodney for that. Another example of Rodney's heroism is "Hot Zone" - I can't wait 'till we get there to discuss it. This also reminds me how good characterization was in S1. We learned lots of things about these characters in these early episodes. We saw how stoic and brave Elizabeth is, how heroic Rodney can be, we learned about John's very dark side. Ford wasn't sweet any more when he got to call the shots. It was soo gooood!

4) What was Elizabeth thinking when she saw John stalking up the ramp? I mentioned yesterday I was really curious.

I think her emotions were very intensive and mixed. Part of her was relieved and hopeful, but then Kolya was dragging her away. She was scared as hell, thinking "this can't end well". Maybe part of her wanted John to shoot her instead letting Kolya drag her away. I believe she was scared of John as much as she was scared of Kolya because this is the first time she saw what was John capable of doing. I love that moment when he runs to her, and when he sees that fear in her eyes he immediately softens - the look in his eyes, the tone of his voice. When she told him she wasn't okay, she was probably thinking "I don't know how will I be okay after this, ever". *sigh* Such a perfect moment.

5) What do you think Ford, Teyla and Carson thought about all of it?

Well Carson saw definitely new version of Ford and got to see face to face how dangerous their new home was. Teyla was already accustomed to fight her way through things, and she gave her best here. She also wanted to do more, that's why she offered/asked to fight "with John" - well John certainly had a plan for all of them. I think Ford's respect for John shot higher, he was definitely hero worshiping him - I miss Ford so much, although I totally love Ronon. After everything settled down and they got to talk about what happened... well I'd like to read about that, especially how others saw John's reaction to Elizabeth's "death".

And given how John reacted here, I can't get over the lack of rescue attempts in S4. Stupid PTB.

its mostly used in the german language when you say something's hot and/or makes you drool >> hrr or harrr or hrhr... however you say stands for the sond you meake, a 'lustful snarl'
