Good morning, Sparkies! Happy Screw the Angst Wednesday!

And before I sign off on my first workday after my vacation -- here's the next chapter in the saga. The one that I forgot to finish before my 2-week vacation and then was sitting idle on my work laptop.

Back on Earth Elizabeth had learned, like many others, that working with the windows open during summertime inevitably meant having to listen to neighbors mowing their lawns at all hours of the day. Or a hedge that suddenly needed shearing, or even repairs they'd been postponing for months, suddenly couldn't wait any longer. The sound of lawnmowers, drills, chainsaws and other loud work appliances still occasionally sent involuntary shivers down her back.

In Atlantis, however, there was no grass, no hedge and nothing that had need of a drill to make repairs. However, it should also be noted that her office didn't have windows looking out over the ocean, or anywhere else outside, unlike some other offices.

When Kate had offered Elizabeth the use of her office whenever she wasn't using it herself, Elizabeth had jumped at the invitation. The psychologist's office had windows looking out over the ocean and windows that could actually open to that ocean.

Elizabeth had settled behind Kate's desk a little after lunch and for the first few hours she had enjoyed a quiet afternoon but then the buzzing had begun. The noise started and stopped at regular intervals, like someone turning a machine on and off. The sound was at a constant volume and annoyingly monotone. It didn't take long for it to get on her nerves. By the time she was ready to commit murder to make it stop, she stomped out of the office, calculated the approximate location of whomever was situated one floor up and headed straight for them.

If ever there was a time in which Elizabeth had wished she had been able to capture the utterly shocked look on a scientists' face, it had been the moment she had walked into Doctor Parish's lab and had slammed her fist down on the big red button which was unfortunately labeled 'DO NOT TOUCH!'.

The lights in the lab flickered once, twice, then out and back on. To Elizabeth's satisfaction all was quiet when they came back on.

"Doctor Weir?!", Parish stood in the middle of his lab, his mouth opening and closing without further sound coming out.

"I'm sorry, Doctor, but I had enough of it," Elizabeth waved at the growth chambers now quiet.

"My roses..."

Parish turned from his plants to Elizabeth.

"Doctor Heightmeyer never complains about the noise."

"She doesn't? I find that hard to believe."

"No, she doesn't."

When Elizabeth later asked Kate about the noise, the psychologist said she had no idea what Elizabeth was talking about. Moments later, however, she caught Laura asking Kate about it and saw a smile appear while she informed the lieutenant that it was all sorted now. No more annoying buzz.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I agree, Kate is totally an evil genius!

So so so glad we don't live too close to anyone anymore. We get the occasional distant chainsaw, or rumble of a truck coming down from the quarry, but it's so much more quiet than living in the city.

Poor Parish and his roses though... he's one of those one-episode characters who started a life on their own within the fandom. Did you know that the most popular pairing with Parish is Lorne. Many a fanfic has been written with those two in a starring role.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of that when I've tiptoed outside the Sparky fandom. I wonder if the actor has any idea.

No idea, but I quite like the pairing. I had an LJ gaterfriend who loved them and inducted me into that part of fanfic. She passed away a couple of years ago though at a rather young age too. So I remember her through Parish/Lorne fic.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it, but I follow someone on instagram from my town who has been at McMurdo for a year. Her username is TrailsnTribulations if you want to check it out. It’s been very cool (lol, see what I did there) to see her pics and read about her experiences.

JT2- I just rewatched Practical Magic and saw your boy Goran V. He is handsome now, but he is smoking hot in that movie. Also the villain of course, but damn. I’d forgotten he was in that movies.

I also recognized the red Coupeville wharf, SK, I’d no idea it was filmed in Washington. I couldn’t I unsee it after I noticed though. I looked it up and the house is a facade they put up somewhere in the San Juan’s. Beautiful. I should be taking a stroll there again next month.

Hurricane (well, currently Tropical Storm) Henri is on its way to me. It's supposed to come in Sunday morning. I have to move some stuff in the yard tomorrow so that I won't have flying projectiles. I'm most worried about a long loss of power. My neighborhood has old wires and we tend to go out a lot. My brother bought a generator, though, so even if the whole area goes out I can go to his house.

Yay, Friday! We made it.

YES!!!!!!!!!!! Happy weekend! In 2 weeks time I will be starting my week's vacation. Can't wait! A Tumblr friend is coming up to visit me for a few days. Should be fun! I've met some Gateworld people in real life before but this will be my first meeting of a Tumblr person.

Thanks! The forecast is still changing. It might hit NY and CT more than RI, but it all depends on where it goes. Storms like these are the only time I feel happy that I don't live closer to the coast!

It was hot again today... and then around 7pm I had to scramble to take my hammock down cause there was rain coming... again... *sigh*

It's like I'm living The Storm every day... and there's no cool shield to keep it from drenching us.
