Weeeell, first things first I'll post my own situation regarding Paul and how I feel about him...if thunking is just a thing to do with his looks then...well it goes waaaaaay beyond that. I'm not particularly clear about what thunking means anyway, it was a new word to me when I joined this forum!

I knew that Paul was a nice person already but once I started watching vids of him as himself and reading people's reports of how they've met him at a convention and what a funny, lovely, charming, down-to-earth man he is then - WHOOSH!! That was me well and truly smitten with Paul, 100%. Basically I fancy him like mad - and I haven't even met him yet! Crazy, huh? And whatever accent he's using, Canadian or Scottish, it really does it for me Lol, and before anyone says that no-one's perfect, well I know that - I want to know what one of his faults are, like does he snore? (He'd just have to answer that question with a yes or no, LOL! ) I'm a happy person anyway, but thinking about and seeing Paul on TV or Youtube (or viewing pics of him) makes me even happier

As for Carson, well of course I have a thing for him too but it's less substantial seeing as he's not actually a real person...Paul's the real person playing him and a wonderful job he does too

*Ahem* Well that's my stance. Hope I've not said too much, just being honest Sometimes it's the logical course of action to take anyway (yep, I've been watching the Star Trek film on DVD)

(Oh and if Paul ever reads this then...*face turns purple from blushing*...er, hi Paul! *tries to look innocent and fails* )

Haha... I've heard that he does check his thread every so often, although apparently he's quite computer-illiterate, so I wouldn't bet on him seeing much.

And why not whump poor Carson? Personally speaking, it's character development that I appreciate most in the TV shows I watch (though a bit of an interesting plot is also a big plus), and seeing the hero(es) of the show blow stuff up and fly in ships and kill bad guys just isn't enough for me. I'm also a person who believes individuals are defined by not just their adventures, but the struggles and suffering experienced in life. And so I guess whumping just comes a bit naturally for me... There's always so much Shep-whump, and although it's not a bad thing, it seems kind of pointless after a while if all that suffering just doesn't mean anything. But every moment of suffering we've seen in Carson has been profoundly meaningful for the character, and I love Carson so much more for it.

Well, I post on this topic just about every single day, so the chances of Paul seeing one of my messages is more probable...*gulp* Although I don't regret a single thing I've posted in here so the idea of him reading a post of mine gives me a nice, warm feeling

Another scene that always makes me cry too is the end scene in The Kindred pt 2 where Ronon hugs him... oh gawd, I'm welling up just thinking about it!!
Oh man, I've only watched SGA once, apart from a few select episodes, and season 1 which I almost rewatched the other day....we'll have to hurry up and get back to it! That, or I just go and rewatchThe Kindred now.

Appreciation is the key I think...<snip>...It's the same with Paul... he's a genuinely lovely lovely, funny guy, great looking... but, well.. I dunno, something's still missing!!
Myeah, appreciation is definitely it for me. But if one can thunk just the eyes and smile and personality, I'm there.

BTW - are there any Spn fans in here? What did you think of Paul's appearance?
We don't get it over here! At least, not on free-to-air...I wish we did though, I keep hearing such good things about it!

For me, Carson is such a loveable character... there's not a bad bone in his body. He's caring, funny and wears his heart on his sleeve. I just wanna squish his cheeks, make him cups of tea and cuddle him!!
He's the kinda guy you'd invite over for a nice cuppa tea and scones, isn't he?
I bet he'd be quite adept at things like cross-stitch, too...and I mean that in a nice way...being a surgeon and all, good with his hands, and so patient and gentle...

Now I'm depressed... WHY do we keep watching this ep again?
...because...despite the godawful sadness, it's also the sadness that makes it so very watchable? Because we like remembering just how much we care for someone?
(because we just want to admire him miming reeling in a fish again and again?)

                Aww that's a lovely cap!
My first one! I've taken to trimming them now, so I can squish them into the silly rules of 600pixels...

I'm very greedy with my caps... I tend to leave a lot of mine 'Queen sized' as they've been called elsewhere, i.e. full 1024 size, and I create smaller copy for posting on places where there's restrictions like here. But then I'm a cap-aholic so I justify having as many as possible!
Mmm, well, all I've been able to figure out so far is how to resize it, but if there's a way to keep it big but post it small here... :confused...let me know?

Great caps, I felt so sorry for him in that ep
I know! Poor guy. Such a great discovery, and the horror of what happens with it..."first, do no harm..."
And Perna dying....ah, that's just so not fair.

It's funny, running my own whump forum you'd think I'd whump anyone and everyone...
Oh, which one do you run?

but I couldn't bring myself to whump Carson..ever!! I can't explain it, I just love him too much!! There are some guys I don't even find attractive, but rough 'em up a bit and there's a glimmer of something there on occasion... but Carson? Nope... can't do it!!
                Y'can't kick a puppy, that's why. Sad/emotional Carson, fine...but hurt Carson? Nuh-uh. No-one hurts our scottish puppeh.

Makes sense to me! Should I worry?
Um, no...because it means I might be making a little sense, and am not alone in this world...

Y'know, I think in his place, or any other actor for that matter, I'd stay well away from these forums...how scary, seeing yourself admired and drooled over and discussed and imagined in awkward fanfics and and....

Oh for sure, I agree wholeheartedly that people are defined by their experiences, struggles, triumphs, tragedies...but if you mean that by 'whump' he should be beaten up, which the John Sheppard whumping certainly seems to entail....nah, I just can't do that.

But every moment of suffering we've seen in Carson has been profoundly meaningful for the character, and I love Carson so much more for it.
ah okay, I should read the whole thing before whacking a reply in the middle!
If Carson-whumping is emotional, then I guess it's okay...a little...not too much though. ever since Paul referred to hurting Carson like 'kicking a puppeh'....

Hahahahaaaa.....sorry, that just made me laugh.
Aww, how young and brawny he was! And lookit the hair...no product in that!
The hands-over-the-groin is too cute....no-one else is doing that!

Where on earth did you come across this?

A few years ago, someone came across a photo of his wrestling team that Paul had autographed for someone, and it turned out that there were 2 more photos on the same site... It's all in the history of this thread, so I guess that really makes me a long-time thunker. Only person still around GateWorld now that has been thunking for Paul longer than me is TJuk.

Oh, isn't TJuk the person who does his official webpage?
(which needs a little update, actually... )
I'm too lazy to go back through all the posts...so how long have you been here then?

I remember becoming a fan of Pauly after watching that SGA special on TV, which aired around the beginning of season 2... I vaguely recall wishing desperately that I'd bothered to look into attending the first time he appeared at Dragon*con (I think that was '05...? I'm not sure any more!) so I could've met him in person and heard his non-Scottish accent. But I believe I started hanging out in this thunk thread around when it hit 7k posts...

EDIT: No, wait! It was waaaaaay before that... I see posts from myself way back into 5k. Lemme check... Yeah, it was in the early 4k range, I was a lurker for a while up until my first post in the thunk thread, #4453. If Hypercaz were still around, she'd beat me by a few hundred posts.

*pouts* That's the joy of living overseas, we never get any of those...heck, if they show us the actual show we're lucky! We last had season...erm...3 last year I think, it's been very very long since it was on telly here. S'why I had to resort to buying the DVDs, so I could finally see all the things I was hearing rumours about!
Was it a good special? Is it something that's on the DVDs? I love seeing behind-the-scenes things...

Haha- I had noooo idea he wasn't Scottish, until I watched a behind-the-scenes thing on one of the DVD sets, where Rodney was chasing him, and he didn't have his accent...that surprised me so much! I think I fell way in love with him then...having an accent is wonderful, but being able to put one on soo well? Delightful.
