Hey all! I'm Reiko/Tiamat, new to this thread (and to SGA - I'm almost to the end of s2) and from the start Dr. Beckett has been my favourite character from the start - I literally go *squee* everytime he comes on screen!

Have a very warm welcome to this thread, Tiamat!
You might already have noticed that we're a bit obsessed but in a very friendly way I hope you enjoy your hopefully long stay here in the gutter and don't get tired of adoring all those beautiful pics.

This definitely is a bad week for me, because I receive a very sad news today. It seems I am not allowed to apply for pilot's schollarship, because only students from 2 year of collegue are allowed (I'm 3rd year). Which is weird, since they had no limitations about this last year. This was my only chance of becoming a pilot, and now it's gone. I don't know if it's going to be the same next year, but they say I can apply for flight engineer, but I don't want to, because I want to be a pilot, NOT a flight engingeer. And besides, if I do apply for the engineer's schollarship (or funding) and actually receive it, then I don't know what I'd do, if there's no limitations for pilots next year and I couldn't apply for it, because I already got a schollarship for a flight engineer. See my problem? I don't want to soud melodramatic. but they actually managed to destroy my dreams in one single sheet of paper.

I'm so sorry to hear about that, Oda! I know how much that meant to you, girl.
Giving you advice is pretty hard now.

It's too sad to give up your dreams and I would love to encourage you to cling to it, but if there is (at least at the moment) no realistic chance for your dream to come true, I doubt it's the right choice to put your life on a hold for a whole year. Not to mention the question of whether you can afford doing so or what would happen if you had to realize next year that your hopes were in vain.
I think you should probably keep your eyes on the objective of still being able to apply for the piloting career but you should also most definitely try to look for alternatives that you can live with.

Just a little OT about me, so ignore if you're uninterested...

When I finished school I did have a clear perspective what I wanted to do (become a linguist and study English, Spanish, and as many other languages I could find; I'm a sucker for any kind of means of communications, also Braille writing and sign language for German and the US) but also knew that this most likely would in no way bring in the dough to make ends meet. Therefore I settled with a business training for three years of which I knew I could fall back on if nothing helped with the other thing I had in mind.

I can live with being a business person and it definitely pays the bills but my heart lies with languages; so after working for a few years, I went to University and made my dream come true. Now I'm a very satisfied linguist but just as I suspected, I don't get a job that pays the bills. I do work in this field but you can hardly live with less than 300 bucks a month, plus pay for University for being able to continue my course of studies.

So my advice, keep your dreams alive but also do what you have to in order to live. That's all I can tell you.

And now for an OT...

Fell while walking on the treadmill Tuesday evening. Thank goodness I wasn't running like I normally do because I spained my right ankle and pulled a bunch of muscles in my right leg and throughout the right side of my body, including my arm. Didn't even hurt that bad until the next morning and unfortunately I had to work that morning and the next two days. But I have today and tomorrow off, so I've got some time to rest and actually, I don't hurt as much as I did the past few days.

Outch, phynyx, that truly hurts! I hope you feel a lot better after looking at all these gorgeous pics. I certainly do, every time.

There I have a story for you:
When I showed Twinchy your creation she was totally blown away and said that she was a bit sorry that the 'pinkish' background which was her favourite ended up on the front. I told her that she had said she liked the 'blue' one better and she vehemently denied, insisting that I never remember correctly what graphic she chooses...
Ha, I went back through the thread and showed her the post in which she had me write that she liked the 'blue' background better! You just can't imagine how her jaw dropped! lol

Bit of good news for me this last week. One of my professors invited me to work in her lab as a research assistant next semester! She does studies on reading comprehension from a psychology perspective. It should be interesting and will look great on my grad school applications.

I've got an idea for another sig but I need pictures of any of the main cast members with ears and/or mouths covered and I can't find any. Does anyone know of pictures like that? It could be Carson, or anyone else as long as their regular cast (Zelenka and/or Lorne would be fine too) and have one of either mouth or ears are covered (by hands, a blindfold etc, etc)...

Thanks, again! It's definitely good to be back around more often. I'm glad things seem to be slowing down a little and allowing me more time to hang out here. I definitely missed this place during the end of the summer!

“Q: When will the PTB have a decision on Season 5?”

Answer: I think we’ll probably know by the end of next week.

So we'll hopefully know their decision soon. Hopefully s5 gets the green light!

It could be Carson, or anyone else as long as their regular cast (Zelenka and/or Lorne would be fine too) and have one of either mouth or ears are covered (by hands, a blindfold etc, etc)...

Thank you for the advice, I know exactly what you mean. I didn't apply for the engineers scholarships, since there are plenty of other jobs round here than just the Army. I decided to wait, and continue with my school and I'll apply next year (for the pilots one). If that doesn't happen, I'll probably divert myself to engineering and search a job in that field. And gather the money and do flying lessons on my own. With any luck, I could be a copilot when I reach 35 lol.

I'm usually asleep at the time, you decided to post Twinny the caps, so I couldn't jump into the gutter. But I'm here now.
Wonderful caps, and I absolutely adore their facial expressions.

Oh my goodness Twin! You are definitely the queen of the multi-quote! That's amazing! lol ... Your "Inferno" caps are amazing too! I definitely love the "back end" pic! So good. Actually, if you don't mind, I think I might snurch a few and make some art with them.

I'm glad you like my earlier sigs & the congrats banner! It was tonnes of fun making them!

Speaking of creations ... I'm not sure if I'm completely done with this one yet, but we'll see.

The suits/execs/ptb (whatever you want to call them) at SciFi are the ones making that decision. I don't know any names though. (I don't know if that helped and/or answered your question ... I hope it did)

Actually, according to JM on his blog (from Oct. 15) ...
So we'll hopefully know their decision soon. Hopefully s5 gets the green light!
