I'm wondering if Chuck is standing in for David Hewlett?
Just checked - he was David's stand-in but was originally meant to be Joe's

    Great pictures by the way!

I'm coming into this game pretty late (only JUST started watching SGA on DVD this summer )

I have to say that I was sure about Weir at first...but after having seen The Storm/The Eye, she's really grown on me....she showed just how strong she could be and proved that she really should be the commander of Atlantis.....

I've been converted and am now quite the Weir fan!

That's me too! Die hard Lizzie fan thanks to The Storm/The Eye. I appreciated everything Torri brought to the table, though, and enjoyed hard core episodes with her authority, like Common Ground, Critical Mass and the Siege series. I would enjoy First Strike, too, if it wasn't for what happens at the end...

              Welcome!

Elizabeth's non-conventional (for a science fiction series) strength and how well Torri portrayed it is just one of the things that attracted many of us to both character and actress. It's an addiction we're all proud of.

I have to borrow the DVDs from the library, so watching the series is slow going for me...what's nice is that I get to watch the same for eps over and over for a week, so I know them as well as I know all the SG1 eps by the time I have to return the disc...

Like I said, I really wasn't sure at first (huge Sam-fan, felt Elizabeth was a little to cold and detached in the beginning), but The Storm/The Eye turned that all around for me!

Thanks for the welcome! I get to add this to my many Stargate addictions! LOL My hubby made the mistake of letting his sci fi geek wife outta the closet and there's no way of stuffing me back in!

Did anyone else feel kind of depressed while watching the episode "Before I Sleep" when it was on SyFy recently?
                  Quoting from Gateworld's transcript:
WEIR: It worked -- the stasis, the failsafes. You gave up your entire life.

ALT-WEIR: No -- because we are the same person. The best part of my life -- it's just beginning. I'm exploring a new galaxy. I have years ahead of me still. (She reaches out to touch Elizabeth's cheek.) Trust yourself, Elizabeth. All that matters is right now.

It is little depressing because of what happens to her in only a few years.

That is rather depressing. But frankly I always thought that episode as depressing because it began the retconing and changing characterization of the Ancients as the ultimate bunglers. This episode kind of killed their mystique.
"First Weir, then Samantha Carter, and now, you! It's a pity you humans die or get reassigned so easily, or I might have a sense of satisfaction now!"

*You got the touch! You got the poweeeeer!*

Yeah, it's a little bitter in retrospect. But I also get that feeling in regards to episodes like Progeny and The Real World, where her nanites come into play. I really enjoyed them before Season 4; after it (and GITM) they're a bit distasteful to me now because they're the beginning of the end.

Another line that makes me sad like that is actually in SG-1 in "The Pegasus Project" when Elizabeth and Daniel join Vala on the Atlantis balcony, and Daniel mentions that someone could spend a lifetime exploring Atlantis, and Elizabeth replies "I hope to."

And then about six months later it was *slit throat*

The worst thing that is especially sad in retrospect, to me, was back in season 1. It was in "Home", Sheppard and Weir were talking about the option to leave Atlantis and go back home to Earth after they discovered a potential gateway back. He eventually asks if she would go back because "...life sucking aliens were not exactly in the brochure."

Elizabeth told him "Regardless, I'm staying." Sheppard playfully responds "Good, wouldn't be the same without you."

When I saw that again I was like "Ouch. Oh, you really don't know the half of it. Nobody did."

I think if there was ever an example of very sad unintentional foreshadowing in the show, that was it. The fact that I think neither Sheppard nor the audience seriously thought about the prospect makes the irony even more poingant.

Good call. I love that scene from "Home" and John's words were right on the money for some of us.

Overall, just...makes me sad, I guess.

I'm still working my way through S1 (it takes a while b/c I have to wait for them to get to the local branch of my library....) and I finally saw "Before I Sleep" last night (watched it three times already....) and I've been spoilered a bit about what's to come (I did it to myself...looked it up lol) and had that running through the back of my mind while I watched it. I dont' know how much they plan, or how far ahead, but it certainly was eerie to here Alt. Elizabeth's lines about the future *shiver*

I have to say, the ep made me wanna cry a little....but it was a great ep, esp for TH - she was terrific in it!
