Put me down too for getting tired of the Kirking of Shep. I really think it's the worst for him with the number of eps. I've heard that has this, happening with him just this season. I like the definitions that have been written for this too.
*cracks up* You know, my very first fandom – Star Wars – was plagued with the "Canon Wars" because no one could agree on what counted as canon. Sure, the stories in the Expanded Universe novels were approved by someone at Lucasfilm, but some of them were so crappy that there were a lot of people who just wanted to call the movies canon. They thought the EU was just glorified fan fic.
Mind you, we're talking about the difference between having six movies and a hundred books versus a long-running television series and a handful of books. But since I don't think the Fandemonium books have "approved" plots, we can probably treat the information in them as tentatively canon until something's confirmed on the show.
And catching up some more... Could we, um, actually not have a list of names at the beginning of the thread? I understand the intent, and it's not like I'm ashamed to be seen in this thread, but for one thing it makes the thread seem like a clique, and I know none of us want that. For another... I kind of swore I'd never sign a fandom-related petition. They don't work, because it's too easy to produce a fabricated list of names and say you've got tons of support. Ten well-worded, succinct postcards are far more likely to sway the minds of TPTB than a petition with a thousand online signatures.
Besides, if you want to see what people have posted in a thread (which, in a thread like this, is going to be mostly comprised of people who support the anti-Kirk initiative), all you have to do is click on the number of posts next to the name of the thread in the thread listing. A little window pops up that tells you who's posted and how many times they have.
Yes, I'm insanely picky. But I'm not sure a list of people at the beginning is such a hot idea.
As some people have expressed the desire to see their name deleted from the list on the first page, I suggest you only "sign" people if they explicitly said so in their post. Or even better, send postcards to TPTB.
I really not a fan of Kirking too...not with Jack and especially not with John. I'm not falling in love every time in hollyday too...so within a mission it's just more beyond belive IMHO!
Welcome Dorka, Gatelover12, SGLAB, xkawaiix and anyone else I've missed.
I've updated the first page and removed Naughtrish, plus added the definitions of kirk, Kirk syndrome and kirking around. I couldn't keep on with a vertical ist of names, unfortunately, because we're starting to get numerous (whoot!), so it goes across not down.
Big Squees all round.
Relinquishing the Hallowed Soapbox now.
Okay, replace Male character with any lead character, I'm just furious over the Captain Kirking for Shep in Atlantis more than anything.
Me too, so sign me up as well. Once a season is more than enough, and this whole thing with him meeting a new alien chick once a week is not only out of character IMHO, but it's annoying the bejeezus out of me. TPTB -- please, one fling per season if you have to do it at all. It's already getting ridiculously out of hand.
"But that man who has known the immense unhappiness of losing a friend, by what name do we call him? Here every language is silent and holds its peace in impotence."~In memory of Whistler84...loved and missed but never, never forgotten. Safe journey, my dear friend. Love you.
HIC COMITAS REGIT How long until Shore Leave 29???

I guess for me it is obvious that the writers are considering and holding off shipping any of the main characters together, and rightfully so...but what annoys me now, is that Shep is the only one getting some squee...what about everyone else? he isn't the only hottie there...every single one of the character, main and recurring, are super hotties and should be allowed some squee time as well..then all will be good in Atlantis...but the whole Cpt. kirk in my opinion is not in Shep's character and is just ruining him for me....and he is too darn good for that!
On another note, I think it will be just more productive and more direct if people write in J. Mallozzi's blog and in the ask J.Mallozzi thread....in my opinion...do it subtly, but someone should definetly mention this thread and how many of us feel...just some food for thought!
ROTFLMAO....I love it, No Kirking! Personally, when I watched original Trek...didn't phase me, but as I've been back and back...it's ridiculious (sp?).
As for Kirking in SG1/SGA or any other scifi show...well, it's fun now and again - as that is sort of human nature...but the pairing of the lead male/female with the guest female/male....ever ep or even several times a season....that's a bit much....so sign me up as a member of S.T.A.C.K.S!

Not a bad idea, seeing as how Joe is the main outlet to TPTB available to gateheads. By all means people, make a comment in his blog about Shep and Kirking, but try to not overwhelm the poor guy with tons of posts and above all don't get mean!
Asking Joe about it on his thread is more difficult though. How does one phrase it as a question? It's easy to say "A bunch of us dislike all this Shep-Kirking." but that's more a statement and "Please stop Kirking Shep!" is more of a request/demand.
