      Spoiler:
Teer was a Mary Sue. They had absolutely nothing in common. She was dull, lacked personality, humour, meditated all day. Doesn't sound like Sheppard's type. Nether was the Renaissance Bimbo Mara which is why I consider both those episodes Kirking. It doesn't make any sense. Sheppard isn't like that. Also, if Teer had pre-cognitive abilities and knew he was coming that day and sent her brother to get him, then she would have known that his friends had sent a letter with supplies through the portal. If she cared about him, she wouldn't have let him suffer all day in his room thinking the team had abandoned him so he'd be easier to get. How selfish.

I'm sorry, Epiphany was just so bad I can't even consider it canon.
      well, (spoiler answer)

While I agree that Teer did not have the most sparkling of personalities (Ascended people are too laid back!), her precognitive abilities seemed limited, aka, not fully formed. Otherwise she would have known that his team was coming to get him long before. Not quite all knowing, as that would be boring.

As for 'If she cared about him, she wouldn't have let him suffer all day in his room thinking the team had abandoned him so he'd be easier to get.', well, if he got depressed, you just don't snap your finger or talk someone out of that. It takes time and a lot of that depends on the person who's depressed. I get the feeling that Teer and her people, most of whom probably lived there all their lives, never even saw anybody get depressed as what's to get depressed about? All they do is meditate and they're all sure they're going to Ascend.

//He only slept with Teer (perhaps Mara as well) because they blatantly offered themselves. It's not very honourable to accept such an offer when you don't even like the woman and you're willing to go to bed with her only because you're stranded on a planet with a limited number of women.//

Well, we don't know that he didn't like Teer; he seemed to like her. Love? No. Like, yes. And they only did it after knowing each other for about half a year. Heck, in today's society, lots of folks jump in the sack after just a date or two.

The episode needed a lot more detail, which isn't done in 42 minutes.

Doubt he slept with the bimbo princesss in "The Tower." Teer, yes, but after being in the Pegasus Galaxy for say, 1.5 years.... well, he's only human. However, I woudn't want the writers to make this a habit.

      end spoilers

prion, I agree with you on depression.
          Spoiler:
And I know that Teer wasn't all knowing. It's just that she didn't seem surprised at all when he came back from the long journey, bringing the supplies back with him. Judging from the look on her face, and the comment "I knew. I was following your journey in my mind", she knew in advance what he was going to find. Hence, she could have spared him a lot of pain and depression he'd experienced because he thought he'd been abandoned.

Well, to be fair, if I didn't know John Sheppard, but suddenly found myself alone with him, I'd have a damn good go at 'foisting' myself all over him. However, knowing him, I'd expect him to have enough respect for both me and himself not to give in to someone he's barely known five minutes (damn it!).

off-topic (for a reason, it was originally related to this topic)

Wildrat, please check your PM in-box...
I would *really* appreciate if you would (please) look at (my) reply to something that you brought attention to in there. It's important.

You don't need to reply to it, but if there is a question on it or anything else, I will do my best to explain. (Not sure if this PM system was working properly.)

              thx!
btw, most kids are highly *clever* (it all depends on how and what they're doing)...

              resuming to back on-topic...
I've come very close to siding with Qasim in this topic regarding Shep (and those so called *flings*), and I'm not that kind of person to approve of such behavior. (It is more prevailant in real life, than has been discussed and believed in these topics... if it wasn't the papers wouldn't be loaded with divorces and numerous new romances.) I have also noticed that the Kirk poll topic has more % of people in favor for some romance, than none at all...

No repeats for Season 2 with Shep -if the SciFi channel doesn't reschedule SGA- because Dr.Who is taking over SGA's time slot during the potential repeat eps season?? If that's true, that'll be pure cruelty! USA folks haven't even seen *all* the eps in question (Kirk vs a Scott reactive persona for Shep!). Approximately 2/3rds of SGA viewers haven't seen the new eps (including syndication and new DVD viewers). So, that translates that 1/3 of the viewing population sets the *standard* for everyone else?

This bodes as (very) bad news for USA viewers.

Maybe the Sci-Fi channel is getting proverbial cold feet from all the Shep/Kirk flack -not to also mention their supporters potentially reading any other general complaints against Atlantis in other topics. This seems to be becoming an annual habit. It happened last year too- and with SHEP as the center of controversy for not being marine-by-the-book military enough (he's air force!)...

When networks start playing with the program schedules, that is usually a sign that the first steps towards cancelling the series is being processed, even *if* it occurs in mid-stream production. I've seen it happen before to other programs.

Sorry if my ranting on the other "kirk" *poll* topic was a bit too stern. I may like Dr.Who, and be looking forward to seeing the rest of where the USA left off (30th anniversary). But not at the expense of cancelling SGA somewhere in the near future (that is the impression that is being given).

Stargate as a whole entity may not be the most *superior* in sci-fi ideas, but it's (become) a good study on how some eps (other TV series) can be made better. IMHO, it's also a good educational tool (neutral ground) newbies in the fields of TV production... for learning about the pros and cons of producing (film techniques, etc., details) for any TV series.

Well, being prepared for the worst (in news), but hoping for the best.

Haven't posted in this thread before but after tonight's SG-1 and Atlantis episodes I just have to! Both "Collateral Damage" and "Epiphany", to me anyway, can be classified as "kirking" episodes. Both episodes were just insulting and ridiculous. What every happened to the "Sci-Fi" in Sci-Fi Fridays? BAH! I love Sheppard, but this is getting ridiculous.

Also, being a long time Dr. Who fan, I'm not really too concerned (yet) that the show is taking over SGA's time slot for repeats. Season 1 of Dr. Who will be done airing by the time we get season 3 of SGA. Maybe they'll push the SG-1 repeat to 7, SGA repeat to 8, Dr. Who (new) at 9 and BSG repeat to 10.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Epiphany's the one that Joe wrote, right?
Or he came up with the idea --- I'm so vague right now! I wonder if the 'hot alien chick' was his idea, or if it was something that was added when the story went to the writers.

I'm wondering if Mitch needs to be added to the kirking party. What do you guys think?

I believe that the initial idea was his - Epiphany
                        Spoiler:
stranding John on a planet as a vehicle to explore his character.
But he either didn't have time, or didn't feel that he was able to actually write the episode, and therefore it was written by someone else. (Yes, I'm being vague, but I'm doing about 47 things - or, y'know, 4 - so I'm too lazy to look anything up just now.)

I'm no authority on this, but my thought was that the "hot alien chick" was not part of his initial idea. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

hahahahh!!! I was thinking the same thing! Let's leave poor John alone! And let's do so before our fellow american viewers who have seen the ep for the first time, start another Sheppard discussion. It's getting a bit old, doesn't it?
Mitchell is the new character to fall into the kirking hole!

Only 47 things? Does that mean you have time to write another chapter of your story??? Does it???

It's one of the 47 things. (Actually, I started writing it about five minutes ago, but I only have 210 words so far. And I've got to head bedwards soon.)
