criticizing the character is not bashing the actor. disliking an aspect of a character's storyline is not a horrible insult.
May I also add that our recently negative reaction to Sheppard has more to do with the WRITING of the character than the portrayal or the character himself. A lot of us are Sheppard fans... we love the character and saw a lot of potential in S1 but that potential has largely been left wanting. This thread is about people expressing that disappointment and there wouldn't be disappointment if we didn't care or if the expectation isn't there.
But this once-off romance among the stars syndrome, in my opinion, detracts from the story as much as or more so from ongoing ship in the show. It takes something away from the substance and integrity of the character... as we've seen in recent episodes. 40 plus minutes is not really long enough to give a romance substance and all it does is convince the viewer that the character is nothing but eye fodder.sigpic

(Backside covering Note: Pointing out to Qasim that his argument is flawed, I actually agree that Weir is hot. This is not in any way insulting to Weir, TH, other posters, or anyone)

Originally posted by SkydiverGuys, i think we need a little refresher course in tolerance here. we have over 13,000 people on this forum with an untold number of lurkers...which means we're going to have folks from pretty much every point of view hanging and posting here.
Now this can be a great thing. For example we can share things about our lives, such as folks from another religion sharing with us thier point of view and, hopefully, broadening our horizons.
but to learn about each other, people also need to be aware that they can and will be exposed to points of views or opinions that don't fit in with thier own. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, people need to be tolerant and respectful towards those with whom they don't necessarily agree.

While discussion about the actors' personal lives is discouraged, their performance on the screen is open territory.
There are threads here with which i totally disagree...i don't visit them as a poster because of that fact.
Just because you don't like a thread doesn't mean that it should cease to exist - heck if we did that we'd have no threads here cause i guarantee you that someone here dislikes every single thread.
If you can peacefully co-exist and play within the thread, then please do. Join in and debate and learn something. However if you find that your tolerance level for a topic means that you can't separate yourself from the topic and that your passions will rule your actions, then it might be a good idea to just leave the thread and let things be.

If we didn't care about the character and the actor who plays him, we wouldn't care what sort of storylines he's involved in. We could just look at him and say "hmm. He's pretty".
It's more to us. It's about integrity. This character has so much potential, and Joe should be given the kind of material that lets him show that potential.
