Skydiver mentions : let's see if we can list other kirking examples
jack/kynthia
okay, he was sorta drugged into that
jack/laira
jack/kerry
daniel/shau'ri (i mean, really, in the movie kasuf giving shau'ri to daniel was just to give thema reason to leave him behind, blatant plot device)
daniel/hathor
drugged into that
daniel/shyla
daniel/kira (he soo slept with her. men do not defend women that passionately that they're not interested/involved with)
daniel/nesa but she just had a crush on him and she was too young for it to be real
Geez, I can't even remember who Nesa is)
daniel/vala
teal'c/dreyac - yes they were married but still
teal'c/shonac - and while dreyac was still around no less
teal'c/ishta
teal'c/krista (another plot device)
dang, them boys have been busy

Basically, cuz society tolerates it. 'Men will be men" but if a woman does it once, well, gets a label, or worse, if you live in some countries, you get murdered.
Because it's an episodic show, we're not going to see any character get married unless you want to start a pool on when the spouse gets bumped off (aka The Bonanza Syndrome). However, that doesn't mean the writers have to pair up a character with a ditz either; I must admit at least Sam has attracted some intelligent guys (but after watching last night, eek, the Black Widow touch still exists to a degree, poor Orlin). However, if the writers insist on giving Sheppard a ladyfriend to dally with, come on, there have been enough Ascended/descended ladies, and please, no more IQ-challenged princesses. And how about somebody his own age? That princess belonged on Fox's The OC!
THe writers are gonna do what they want, alas (just cringing at Joe Mallozzi's remark about Shep in one of his blog comments sections), but then again, maybe they'll read enough posts to realize many viewers/fans would like characterization development, which doesn't mean tossing Shep (or anybody else) into bed with a guest star.

Do you know what? I wonder to some degree if that's why the writers always killed off / ascended Sam's men? Because had they not died and had still turned out just to be CoTW flings, she would have been labelled as a little ............ fill in blank as appropriate.Yepp, it's blank down here.
