Actually, I don't mean just joining the discussion! If you seem happy with the STAKS and say "I agree with STAKS" you kinda go up, but can be taken down again (I learnt my lesson after someone got upset).

As for the thread dying. Same. I wish I could say this thread was redundant, that kirking had died, but some how I have a feeling: As long as there's gate, there's gonna be kirking.

In case some of you haven't made it onto my fic yet, there's an important message to TPTB at the end:

    Don't Kirk and Drive
    Cos Kirking Costs Lives!!!

It depends what you class as extreme.

this thread exploads after kirking in Stargate, so if it's all the way on page 5, does it mean we are lucky because there is NO kirking so far?

Firstly! Yes, please put STAKS in your sig. People may be curious and pay us a visit! As for page five meaning no kirking, no it just means that the Shippers and Thunkers have been more active than us!!

i'd just like to add my complaint to the growing number of... ahem... complaints... against shep and kirking. really... it's just too much, too far, and it makes him look like a stupid idiotic womanizer, or, as some fans kindly (not) put it, a manwhore.

frankly, i probably wouldn't have anything against him hooking up with chicks as long as he actually LIKED them. but he doesn't seem to care too much what/who she is, as long as she's willing and able. kinda sad, cuz i was happy with the direction this season was going (sorry, but "epiphany" doesn't count as kirking to me).

oh well, i suppose we can't have it all, now can we.

                nyuszi, welcome to the thread.

I think your right, actually caring about them has a slightly different effect (that's why people aren't so upset about Sam as they are about John), but it's all sex to bump ratings.

has finally pushed me to the edge of even liking Sheppard (who has been my fav since day one).
I'm right there with ya, except I have the additional disadvantage of being somewhat indifferent toward Shep since his introduction. I was hoping that the writers could put out something to make me change my mind -he has this potentially interesting "black mark" Afghanistan backstory, he has to deal with knowing that the SGC isn't keen on him commanding the Atlantis military, there are hints to problems or lack of a family back home, not to mention the ATA gene and his obvious intelligence. But forget it if the best they can do is Kirk him or have him possessed and kissing people every other episode. *grinds teeth*

Sure Sanctuary could have been explained away by one "bad" writer, but the trend can't be ignored now thanks to numerous episodes of Kirking by different writers. And someone (Joe?) said that there are no current plans to go into Joe's backstory? Yeesh, how completely and utterly disappointing.

                  Comment

The best bit is, Joe has said they won't explore Carter's private life (presumably now a developing relationship with Jack) in any way shape or form, nor have so much as a a passing comment, because they have stories that are more interesting and more important.

Doe this mean that after just one season, they ran out of steam with Atlantis? Do they not have any important or interesting stories left? Cos I sure could think of a list as long as my arm!

When I first heard the complaints about of the Kirking of Shep, I thought it was mostly the shippers complaining - until this season. Taken individually, each of Shep's Kirk moments aren't so bad, IMO. However, taken together, especially in such a short period of time... YIKES! If this keeps up, I see a promising character being sacrificed for dubious short-term ratings.

I recently saw "Epiphany" and enjoyed it, but agree with many that it should have been so much more. I was looking forward to learning more about who Shep really is, or about some of what makes him the way he is. Instead, we got a village full of robotic people, complete with a Kirking opportunity. If this had been the first incident since "Sanctuary" and if there wasn't more to come (The Tower, for instance), I wouldn't have an issue with Shep seizing the moment during his time of great emotional need.

Unfortunately, this season is showing Shep to be the type of man who would seize the moment at every opportunity and it's not an attractive trait. I went through this when Dylan Hunt was changed from a complex, interesting, flawed man to a walking pe... ah, phallic symbol. I don't want this to happen to Shep.

Agreed Maxbo, I can't stand the multi-episode Kirking that we'll be seeing later, Shipper or no, this just is terrible... especially since one of these episodes was supposed to deal with Shep's past, not how he kisses his daily women. Not sure which one it was, but I haven't seen them yet so I've only got a handful of spoilers.

                          I AGREE!

Please TPTB, Shep has to stop kirking. It's getting ridiculous! Sanctuary was ok, Epiphany I could deal with but the Tower? Come on..!

Once every season is acceptabel but 10%? There's got to be something else to plot about?

Add me to the list, please...
S.T.A.K.S. if you think kirking stinks...

                          Jackson: Earth minutes?
Mitchell: Yeah, I've always wanted to say that.
                          Vala: Well, now you have.

I can forgive Epiphany because he probably thought that he was abandoned forever. In Sanctuary, it was his first alien woman so ok..there is always the first one. But in The Tower I am just happy that he did NOT have sex

Cpt. Ritter, I agree, Kirking is bad for character development. More and more, I've been reading viewers complain that they still don't know who Shep is, despite his being one of the two characters that SGA centers around (the other being Rodney, of course). What's the point of giving us all Shep all the time, if he's to be written as such a shallow character? If TPTB feel that they must Kirk Shep, then at least give us more info about Shep to try to understand why he Kirks.

It's disappointing to realize that this situation is getting worse because although we only had one Kirk moment in Season 1, we've had 3 (so far) in Season 2. If this keeps up, I can see people looking at formerly non-Kirking moments and seeing the Kirkiness of them (good lord, stop me!).

For instance, is the only reason Shep didn't try to Kirk Perna in "Poisoning the Well" or Allina in "The Brotherhood" because Carson showed his interest in Perna and Allina showed her interest in Rodney before Shep could make his move on each woman? Yuck!

Even Kirk moments that I though were funny at the time are losing their ability to amuse me. I thought Sora's father calling Shep on his possible Kirking hilarious in "Underground" and I didn't have a problem with Shep's interest in Chaya in "Sanctuary". I still can't think about Rodney's "Oh, my god, you are Kirk!" without chuckling. Unfortunately, if this keeps up, I won't be chuckling much longer.

That spoiler is interesting and I can't wait to see this episode because I've read comments that it seems as if the last scene was tacked on and the discussion within that scene didn't quite fit what was actually shown on screen. Because of this, I've read people who agree with you and others who believe otherwise. The very fact that what happened is open to interpretation sounds like another case of TPTB playing all angles.
