OMG TPTB are useing sheppard to play out their pathetic male fantasy's, thats just pathetic. Who say's that kirking sells space battles probably get much better ratings
I don't know about other guys but sex dosn't realy sell with me
That's good! It doesn't sell with many people, which is why, in my opinions, SGA dropped to 1.5 ratings by the end of the season. And I was so pissed when awesome episode, Coup'd'Etat, paid for the stupidity that was the Tower because, judging from the ratings, many people gave up on SGA at that point.
I'm even more angry than i was before now, Martin Gero's writeing is sufering because of moronic kirking I loved coup'd'etat to, an TLG, an inferno even though that blonde chick was trying to sleep with sheppard to...Like women ever get that desperate
50,000 for the heads of Mallozi an Mullie!!!
Maybe inferno and Allies pulled SG-A out of the fire
It's interesting how people always say it was bad ratings that killed Enterprise, yet SGA has had far worse ratings this season and there don't seem to be any alarms ringing in TPTB heads.
They need to change tactics, fast, or else they'll get cancelled too. Starting with their advertising campaign for S3, I hope it won't feature any Lt. Colonels as babe magnets because I'm this close to giving up on the show. At this point, if Kirking and other forms of character assassination continue, I won't care if SGA gets cancelled even though I used to be a hardcore fan.
Just look at Critical Mass and Coup d'etat. Ratings weren't that great despite them being brilliant episodes. People just got fed up with this hit-and-miss attitude. One week you have an awesome Gero or Binder episode, and the next pathetic teenage fantasies played out by their flyboy.
WORD!!! From the recent spoilers, it looks like they are doing what fans want them to do... and I loved that "an episode a character" thing that "will probably never be done".
Well, why not??? Your show will jump in ratings! Why do you think Lost is such a popular show? It's got LOTS of backstories for almost every character now. And it's full of mystery, but you can make Atlantis full of mystery too. It's a huge city for crying out loud! Stop with the kirking and get on with development and exploration!
The also why battlestar galactica wipes the floor with stargate, infact its probably the reason people are watching SG-A latley BTW if you havn't watched BSG watch it!
Any way...yea, the better writers like Gero an Binder are loseing out becuase of stupid school boy geek fantasys, *kicks Rob Cooper* I loved critical mass to! Its so unfair, my favorite show is being wrecked.
Wish i could green you 2 for your posts but i need a 100 points of green my self before i can dish it out don't i?

Lt. Colonal????? Well, I guess I really am out of the loop.
About the Enterprise thing I was thinking that same.....but then Enterprise was on a "major" network so that'll make a huge difference in terms on cancellataion.
I was just in the General Discussion folder in a thread about "trekisms" when someone made a comment about the Kirking and I just came to an unfortunate revelation.
If kirking is as prevalent in season 3 as it was the previous season, I'm afraid it just may be enough for me to stop watching. I always thought that it would take a lot for me to stop watching one of my favorite shows, but I've just now realized that if Shep's character continues down this path, I will likely lose most interest in this show.
I think Inferno was the boiling point for me.
Spoilers for Inferno
Spoiler:
Shep was practically drooling over the local hottie and treating McKay like an a**. The way he actually looked her up and down while licking his lips was just over-the-top. He was a complete a** to McKay in what seemed like an attempt to show-off. Yes, sometimes (almost always) you need to be stearn with McKay, but it was the way he was doing it that seemed wrong. I would want more self-control and less oogling from the senior military personell....especially one who is responsible for the military contingent on Atlantis. It seems that Shep was nearly completely distracted by the latest 'hot chick"
It just does not seem appropriate. I think viewers are looking for heros in both stargate shows, and yes, some expect them to be flawed and make mistakes. This however, the kirking, just seems to be crossing the line to the point of rediculous. I don't want a hero to be a blatant womanizer who loses focus when a hot woman enters the room. /rant
With all that being said, I hope and believe, that TPTB have taken some notice of this and have limited "kirking', and/or eliminated it all togther from season 3. So far, the little spoilers I've read seem to be promising. Time well tell.
There's a line to cross where it can be too much- one of the big problems with with Star Trek season three is that almost litereally every episode has that beautiful woman that kirk can't keep away from.....far more so then seasons one and two.
OK, I know that I am going to get major comments on this but it is something that I have been thinking about recently.
Most of our dislike of 'Kirking' stems from Sheppard's actions in season 2, he did a little in season 1 but mostly season 2.
However after much thought, and here's where people may disagree, I think that the alien girls are the only opportunity he's got to express those types of emotions.
My reasoning.
Sheppard is second in command of the expedition, all other military personnel (including Caldwell) are in his chain of command so they're unavailable.
The civilians are out (especially Weir), as any relationship with them would be prohibited as miitary regulations require him to treat them the same as actual military personnel.
Which leaves Teyla, but she is also out as she would be considered as a military contractor and she is under his command.
So where does that leave our very human commander?
With an unrelated Athosian? A man/women from another planet. (I'm equal opportunist although that would also be against regs, if known, Don't ask Don't tell, and all that)
So with that said, and now ducking for cover, his choices are in line with regs.
However, as many have said, he is the commander of the front line team and should show restraint and self control. Not drool over every other girl.
But we should also remember that he is supposed to be human. And nearly every man I know, including my beloved, has needs and requires physical affection (from a hug to intimate relations) regularly.
So can we forgive a few little slip ups? Or are we going to destroy him for wanting to be more than just a commander sometimes.
I want him to show that he is human sometimes and can be more than just a commander but a man as well. But not with every girl on every planet unless we get to see the consequences of his actions or that he can show self-restraint.
I'm still against unconsequential kirking but I feel that Joe is doing the best he can with the scripts he is given/written. The scripts are the problem people
Anyway, that's just how I feel about it. How about you?
Unprofessional Relationships
Relationships are unprofessional, whether pursued on or off-duty, when they detract from the authority of superiors or result in, or reasonably create the appearance of, favoritism, misuse of office or position, or the abandonment of organizational goals for personal interests. Unprofessional relationships can exist between officers, between enlisted members, between officers and enlisted members, and between military personnel and civilian employees or contractor personnel. Fraternization is one form of unprofessional relationship and is a recognized offense under Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
Relationships with Civilian Employees and Government Contractor Personnel. Civilian employees and contractor personnel are an integral part of the Air Force. They contribute directly to readiness and mission accomplishment. Consequently, military members of all grades must maintain professional relationships with civilian employees and government contractor personnel, particularly those whom they supervise or direct, and must avoid relationships that adversely affect or reasonably can adversely affect morale, discipline and respect for authority or that violate law or regulation.
Dating and Close Friendships. Dating, courtship, and close friendships between men and women are subject to the same policy considerations as are other relationships. Like any personal relationship, they become matters of official concern when they adversely affect morale, discipline, unit cohesion, respect for authority, or mission accomplishment. Members must recognize that these relationships can adversely affect morale and discipline, even when the members are not in the same chain of command or unit. The formation of such relationships between superiors and subordinates within the same chain of command or supervision is prohibited because such relationships invariably raise the perception of favoritism or misuse of position and erode morale, discipline and unit cohesion.
Clark'sGirl... you've got some good points there, but do you see Weir doing any kirking? If she can restrain herself from it, he should certainly be able to do likewise.
Actually I thought those regulations wouldn't apply to Sheppard?s female civilian superior... I hate to go shippy because I?m not but c'mon he's known some of these women for 24 hours... or less. You'd think he's at least go to someone knows wake up in the morning an get the 'one word an your dead speech'
Sheppard sleeping with women from an alien galaxy alone on medical an 'eewwww' grounds. Who knows what kind of wacky STD's are in circulation in the Pegasus galaxy Definitely not worth the risk of casual sex!!!
Believe it or not Teyla is a subordinate whether she?s technically a civilian or not... and they serve together in the field. A woman he didn't serve with in the field would be a better choice
What can I say ship is in the eye of the beholder but yall are reading to much into this?It is geeky male writers playing out their pathetic sexual fantasies through Sheppard

I'm not talking about how regulations apply to either of them-- even if the regulations permit it for either of them, it would be equally inappropriate for both. Sheppard's ultimately the main representative of the Atlantis expedition off-world, and it gives a very bad impression.

Agreed. I wish they'd do an episode like that one they did with Jack on SG-1 where he actually picks one up.
