Teyla did not really need a partner to be leading and not to care for the child, but it has a great reference of his father. I do not think we should compare Teyla as a woman of the earth, because it belongs to Pegasus, and so we have to imagine it is another culture more it need not be equal to the earthlings. For me Carl writes very well Teyla, a strong woman, intelligent, able to make decisions and speak your mind, it would be boring without a Teyla weaknesses, I think John is the person who can get closer to Teyla person.
