Major Lorne/Kavan Smith Thunk Thread

Okay girls, this has been bothering me for some time. In Conversion, why did Lorne through that grinade into the cave when his men where in there in trouble?

I've been wondering that, myself. I figure that the cave was FULL of those bugs and that there was no conceivable way ANYONE could have saved those guys. Anyone who went back would just get attacked by the bugs, himself. Lorne was, theoretically, sparing them the pain of a slow, agonizing death by bug. And saving everyone else from the swarm in the process.

HOWEVER, I should think that you could just bring them back to Atlantis and have 'em stand under a shower or something to get the bugs off... but maybe the number of bugs that'd likely be covering them made that unfeasible. *shrug*

I'm going with the idea that Lorne knew they were already dead and he was trying to spare them some pain.

And if you need some rationalization for it, look at what happened to his SG-11 teammates- tortured and splayed on sticks and left to die there as a warning to others. It could have affected him deeply. And there could be other instances in his past that we don't know about.

I think he figured they were already gone. Besides I don't think the thought of going through what Shep went through was much better.

I don't know. It just semed like he gave up on them too quickly, maybe if he had stuck his head in saw them dead then when the bugs tried to get him too he throughs the grenade...

Well there were two reasons, imo. Firstly, there was the whole bugs chasing them thing, so he probably didn't want them to chase after them. Secondly, he knew/suspected that bugs were eating his people, so throwing the grenade was also a mercy stroke, in a way.

About the Bates thing, I'm sorry but Marcus Bates reminds me a little too much of Norman Bates and I'm not sure why...

Anyway we LorneLovers are spreading the word about Marcus Lorne, so I guess that does make this Marcus more important in that aspect.

And I really need to get a kick in the head about finishing up my Marcus fic, I need to find my muse!!! Though another Marcus idea is already brewing

It was just Lorne's snarky complaint to the botanist guy about how he'd been told he'd get to visit new worlds and defend Earth's interests and there was never any mention of plants. Or words to that effect...

Thanks, have to rewatch and pay more attention next time! I was too busy watching him move!
