    Stargate cancelled again, so again, why dont.....

    ...another major TV corporation take it on. Im a sure how big America is, they are not the only major tag in their competition. Sky TV here in the UK have always been a big viewer of Stargate stuff, being on 3-4 times a day. And what about that Canadian Network who used to show Stargate before the US, why dont they take it on. Also what is going to happen now about the 3rd show that they were promising??. Dont think we will get to see that now either, will we

    Well one both MGM and SciFi refuse to produce SGA anymore and also SGA is legally bounded to SciFI simliar to what prevented MGM for getting another channal to broadcast SG1

      Stargate Universe will probably run for 5 years and then get replaced. It coincides with the length of the actors 1st contracts with the show. With the economy they way it is and the ratings generated, it may be cheaper to just create a new show at lower costs while keeping the franchise going. Filming in Canada used to be an advantage but the exchange rate is almost even today.

      Fans may not like it, but it is a hard business and decisions are made based on the bottom line.

      IMHO, SGA never really found its stride or cast chemistry. Almost every year there were cast changes/deletions but the underlying problem was that it strayed too far away from the 'Flash Gordon' formula, where one planet at a time was freed then when enough resources/allies was gathered, fight the final battle. SG1 followed that formula except Jack had a team. Add the lack of character development or the writers block on how to integrate or have other characters do something besides being cheerleaders/backups for Sheppard and Rodney and you have actors questioning why they are there. Wasn't much sexual tension/attraction like what Jack and Sam had.

      As much as I like the Sheppard character, Colonel Sumner (Robert Patrick) would have been a better choice to be the lead character and had a presence about him. The vampire Wraiths were a mistake, just like the Ori was...absolutely no personality and way over-powered to make winning a battle or escaping believable. Bringing back the Replicators just shows how weak the original premise was. Should have made the Replicators the good guys this time around. And what about the scientists? One thought Atlantis could find some tech they could use or develop after all these years at Atlantis and used the scientists to find creative ways to fight instead of soldiers, but the writers never knew what to do with them nor introduced any newly found Ancient Tech or discovered how to make more ZPM's or use Wraith tech and ships. SG1 used to use Gou'ld stuff. Killing off popular characters, like Weir and the under-used Beckett, only to bring them back temporarily in unsatisfying ways didn't make sense.
      It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

        scifi only lets there shows go for five seasons max it seems.
        Sg-1 on Scifi = five seasons
        Atlantis = Five seasons
        Farscape = Four plus mini
        Battlestar Four plus mini

        If you want to look on the bright side if Atlantis was produced in Britain it would only get 13 episodes per season like Doctor Who in which case Atlantis's 100 episodes would be like seven and a half seasons.

          Pretty much what I was thinking. I don't think I'd want to see Atlantis continue. Haven't really been happy with the way it developed, not what I expected.

          This way, I'm happy that SGU is taking off, and now I have something to look forward that hopefully works out better.

            It makes me laugh that people say SCI FI cancelled the show. Well then why is MGM and Stargate productions "Not" starting a Save the show campaign like they did with SG-1? Hmmm maybe because they were the ones who cancelled the show. Hey, they may treat the fans like a bunch of Jack-asses, but the fans for Stargate are very smart.

              You're assuming they actually want the show to go on.

              From a money making perspective, they've got feature-length film(s) following up on S5 (which will no doubt make a crapload like the SG-1 movies did) as well as a new series in the pipeline. Business-wise, taking SGA off the air was a smart move cause a. SGA's current ratings aren't exactly stellar and b. it hypes up anticipation for SGU since it's the only franchise show left running. Also, TPTB knows from past experience that running two shows concurrently is not a great idea, so instead of dividing their attention between the two, it's better to focus on SGU and pull the plug on SGA before both shows suffer as a result.
