(Hahahaha, thats the funniest thing I've heard all day >.< )

    Our Sharp-Hangar Bay Breifing Room
Sharp nodded, sniffing his nose, this Paul was very similar to his reality. "Well, originally I was one of the heads at designing a new stealth aircraft for the Air Force, and about a few months into it I was approached by the SGC. I worked with the scientists there helping design the f-302 and I got to fly over the Antartic as a Lt. Colonel and afterward was promoted. Taking a shortened intro course to offworld expiditions they put me on a few teams as some sort of understudy, but eventually I went back to Earth's defense space-craft." He did a sort of laugh "But of course as soon as I did the new Alpha-Site was being completed and they asked if I wanted to lead the flagship team out of it, and how could I refuse?" He shrugged his shoulders. "And here I am..." he said as his mind began to rember the situation he was in. He wasn't talking to Paul. This isn't him...he's just being polite..
"Ughh" He said crouching over and rubbing his temples, looking at the ground.

      Major Paul Davis

      Hanger Bay Briefing Room

Paul had listened quietly, as Chris went on how he ended up at SGC and eventually at Alpha site a small smile played on his lips. "Talk about excitement." he chuckled. "Yours almost is an adventure."

Seeing Chris's realizations as where he was and whom he was talking to. I'm not him to him, am I? Paul wondered, then shook his head at his own question. He wasn't Paul knew that.

There was one question sitting on his lips, since he had seen her, but he wasn't sure if he should ask. "You must be proud of your team." he settled for that. While he didn't warm up to the idea of having his only child's counterpart on the front line, but as a Air Force Major he couldn't be more proud of her being on the flagship team.

Sharp sat there, thinking of a response, and somehow a slight smile emerged on his face. "Your talking about her arn't you? Claire?"

Paul closed his eyes and exhaled. It giving himself sometime to compose his own feelings. He shouldn't have been surprise at Chris's question but he was. The man knew his counterpart quite well, he didn't know if he found that annoying or admiring.

But he nodded, "Kinda," he admitted softly, "why her? on your team, I mean." he gave a wave of his hand.

He was carrying the guilt of her death on his shoulders for far too long. He shouldn't be here, not alive at least.

Sharp nodded. "She had a natural talent for it...probably came from her pop. I dont know...she just knows what she's doing." His smile came up again. "And though she won't admit it, the reason she's on my team is because she is one of the hardest trying people I know to do well, and the reason she does that is well." He looked at Paul. "Is to live up to you."

Paul smiled softly at what Chris had said. Natural Talent? eh?. At the pace she was going, she would over take him as the well known Davis. He wouldn't deny that she had his brains, along with his stubbornness.

"Is to live up to you." he heard Chris say.

Paul gave the colonel a baffled look, then frowned as words started to make some sense. "Live up to me?" he asked, puzzled, "I don't get it Chris, why would she think she has to....you know, prove something?" now he was really starting to question his counterpart's sanity, regarding her upbringing.

"Rain has nothing to prove to anyone but herself, hasn't her mother told her that?" he shook his head wondering where was Lisa, while this Claire was growing up.

His Claire had nothing to prove to anyone but herself and not to him at least. All she had done here, had left a effect. He had been and still was proud of what she had achieved.

(Ack, sorry it took so long for the response...surgery really puts you out )

Rain... Sharp thought to himself...he had heard that nickname for Claire only a few times before. He stared at his old friend.

"Rain has nothing to prove to anyone but herself, hasn't her mother told her that?"
"And when does she ever listen..." Sharp replied. "She admires you Paul. Why do you think she joined the airforce? The SGC? So she could be just like her pop." Sharp's eyes began to water again as he looked at the floor. He couldn't get over the fact that this wasn't his Paul. Why? Why did Paul have to be on earth? Why couldn't have he been visiting the Alpha Site? Or offworld like this one must have been. Why? Sharp clenched his fist, he couldn't simply ignore the person sitting in front of him...so why not pretend? So why not have one last dinner with an old friend? If he knew this was the last time, wouldn't that make it so much better? Sharp's mind was conflicted so he simply waited for Paul to say something.

                  When did she ever listen,
he though as a sad chuckle escaped. Sighing, he leaned back and looked at Chris, in other reality she had admired him, joined the Air Force, and that was a bit of a shocker. Here she had fought with him to be on SGC.

"I'm joining SGC and that's the end of it, Daddy," she had said firmly, in a no nonsense tone and a glare, "Make him understand, Zack" she had told her husband.

Paul looked away when he saw another inner conflict on Chris's face, knowing that for this Chris it was hard to talk to him, "Here, Rain never cared for Air Force, hated it for the fact that she couldn't see me for a long period of time, joined SGC as a civilian."

Somehow he felt he owned Sharp an explanation for him being alive here, "The only reason, I'm alive here," he inhaled deeply as he looked at his hands, "is due to a meeting with General Belousov. I was suppose to head back just hours before we lost earth, but I delayed my return cos of Mike," he smiled at the thought of his only grandchild, the only piece of his daughter still living. He hadn't seen the boy for a month and had wanted to spent time with him.

Sharp was perplexed...Claire in their reality had joined as a civillian? Must have been good at translations...

is due to a meeting with General Belousov. I was suppose to head back just hours before we lost earth, but I delayed my return cos of Mike,
Here we go again. The realization that he wasn't the actual Paul struck him head on this time, and he couldn't avoid it. Sharp didn't know what to say...what was he supposed to say? He was talking to a man who was dead for all purposes, a man he never thought he'd get to see again. Why was he doing this? Why couldn't have he just ignored Paul and wen't on to eat with the rest of his team? Was it that he had to talk? Did he need closure?...had he gotten it? He raised his head out of his hands and suddenly his mind was clear. His Paul was gone, gone forever....and that was that.

He turned his head towards the Major....and after taking a deep breath, said "Thank you."

Knowing there was nothing more left to say, Paul nodded, "Your welcome," he said as he got to his feet, he felt for this Chris, he really did. It would take the man sometime getting over 'his' death, in his reality. It saddened him to see the pain the green eyes, knowing there was no way he could erase it. But Paul knew Chris will heal, but it would take time for him to do so.

"Come on, I'll escort you to the Mess Hall, Chris." he gave the man a small smile as he made a gesture to Sharp to follow him.

Sharp looked at the ground for a few more seconds before standing up and taking a large breath. Clearing his mind he smiled. "I wonder if there is any jello..." he said as he walked out with his friend.

After McKinnon's eyes adjusted to the sun with his shades in place, he spoke to Higgins. "Like I said before, we took the express elevator up to the hangar before. Want to show me your motor pool before we head up?"

                            TSGT Carolina Higgins

Carolina nodded. "Sure. We haven't really made a lot of mods to the ground vehicles- haven't really had to, other than adding a couple of things like low-level Iberian shields and some energy weapons. Which, thankfully, we've not had to utilize very often." She made a face. "We did have an incident a couple years back with an unstable Shajgar male that decided he wanted the canyon back and went on a rampage. Once he demonstrated that he wasn't listening to reason or his current mate, we had to take him out before he destroyed not only parts of the base but the Shajgar settlement."

She shook her head. "There wasn't much left. The Shajgar were very apologetic, but it wasn't their fault- just like us, apparently they are susceptible to mental illness in rare cases. Its unusual, but it happens. We've not run across another since."

She paused inside the doors to the Hangar Bay and hung a hard left. "The motor pool is off to the side here; the canyon floor rises up a little here and made a really nice natural ramp for us to utilize."

Lance nodded as Carolina related the tragic story of the rogue male Shajgar. "That's a shame, though I'm not surprised. From the little bit I saw of them in the canyon, they seem to be quite evolved, both as beings, and as a culture, albeit one quite different from ours. I guess with any species, if there's enough development of the brain, mental illness is possible. Too bad there was no way to help him." He shook his head at the loss. Even though he had no qualms or hesitation when it came to combat, he hated to see or hear about needless loss of life.

"As far as the shields, how are they mounted, and function? I'd assume the housing wouldn't have to be so specially designed as the golf-ball dimple housings they had on the 302's since the ground vehicles most likely aren't as fast as the fighters, and maintaining airflow over the wings and fuselage to maintain flight isn't going to be an issue." He paused briefly then smiled before continuing. "Before you go too far with an explanation, I'd better make clear that even though I know the basic physics for an airframe design, and I'm no idiot, I'm by no means a techie. Valentine will know a lot more than I do, but you may want to simply any technospeak for me a bit."

As they were in the canyon, he hadn't noticed the slight incline as their path wound around the base at first, but once they switched back a couple levels up, he realized they'd been ascending a natural ramp. The twisting path was a great access, and he wondered if the base in earlier times had been a natural fortress for the Shajgar or Iberians, as the switchback design of the path made it pretty easy for defense from above. He thought back to how his grandfather had told him of the knights of the middle ages and early renaissance and their shields. The switchback design would force the shield arm to the side away from the defenders above, making any attacking force more vulnerable to attack. While it may be a slight disadvantage for vehicles descending down from the motor pool, he realized the elevator they'd come up the first time could easily have handled a tank-like vehicle similar to an M-1 Abrams in size. As they ascended, his mind played out scenarios for attack and defense like he usually did, and it seemed that their base was a great design - utilizing natural features to enhance their defensive position. He was definitely glad they weren't in a position to have to assault it.

The huge Hangar Bay doors that Higgins opened were opposite of the end they'd entered previously, and what he had thought was an aircraft maintenace area from the distance was actually their motor pool. "Impressive, it seems that this side of the base is a lot closer to the ground than the other side with the elevator where we were before." Then his eyes caught a vehicle that looked like what he could best describe as a tracked humvee with twin mounted gatling cannon on the front and a turret with two energy weapons on the top with a full 360 degrees of rotation. The hatch to the engine compartment was open, and a couple of techs were working diligently on it. Despite the bulk of the vehicle and it's tracked design, it looked fast as well as being armored. "Wow... what is THAT?" he asked Carolina with obvious admiration for the vehicle.

Carolina turned to regard their newest addition to the motor pool, then turned back to face Lance. "You like that? We decided to tinker with one of our humvees and turn it into... well, about as close to a tank as possible." She began walking toward it. "The Iberians helped us tweak the engine design so that it's smaller but more powerful, and surprisingly, its very similar to rotary engines back on earth, but with a little twist." She reached into the engine compartment and tapped a nondescript aluminum housing. "Hydrogen."
