I just realised something... fairly interesting. Something that might shed new light on the topic of whether Mitchell is alive or not.

In Paris, the wreckage of Colonel Mitchell's F-302 burns brightly, still smoldering, as a gunship appears in the rooftops overhead, its light swiveling to examine the downed craft
Turning their attention back to the conversation, they catch Daniel slowly asking the question they've surely all been wondering; has the resistance movement... found any trace of Cameron Mitchell? A sad silence descends over the room, and Makepeace quietly says that their French comrades dedicated a solid two months to scouring all of Paris for him after his F-302 went down ("Star By Star"), but they turned up nothing. His fighter's crash site was little more than an alley strewn with twisted metal and cratered cement.
These two quotes contradict each others. According to Star by Star his 302 was still (mostly) intact, yet according to Earthfall it was completely blown up. Now, as the former leader of SG-1 Colonel Mitchell is worth more to the Der'kal alive than dead. And if SG-1, or what used to be SG-1, new that the colonel is still alive they'd try to rescue him...

And the info for the upcoming episode said...

I connected this a while ago.

Interesting. It would almost seem to imply that the F-302 was destroyed after its landing...

I think that the gunship fired on the fighter and destroyed it, it just wasn't "shown".

Interesting point McCoy when i read that part i assumed it had to do with Vur'naa and Lor'al in that drama and also Anise.

I suppose it could mean either of the two or something entirely different.

Guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

That is what I thought too. We will have to wait for the episode to find out.

((And now, the mid-season finale of Stargate SG-1!))

                                15x10 "Interludes" (Part 1 of 2)
Synopsis: A series of stunning revelations prompts the leaders of the refugees to consider the ultimate gamble to take the fight to the enemy and win back their homeworld.
                                Spoiler:
((30 second recap of "Star By Star," "Acts of Contrition," and "Earthfall"))

The Beta Site is busy as always, even as night descends upon the refugee camp. As thousands of the displaced make their way to one prefab home or another, a squadron of F-302s race over the treetops, passing by the mountain and soaring up into space. Passing through the upper atmosphere, the mammoth MBP-305 Jupiter finally becomes visible as it exits hyperspace, slowing down as it establishes a stable orbit around the planet. The first time such a maneuver was seen over the new home of humanity ("Severed Dreams"), the ship was battered, bruised, and barely able to fly at all. But now, thanks to half a year's worth of repairs, additional men and supplies, and a renewed spirit, the great starship appears almost as good as new.

On the bridge of the battleship, the crew is cheering their successful mission; a strike against an Aschen shipbuilding facility was successful, destroying three new frigates before their completion and taking out two of the larger vessels guarding the area. It is unlikely that P7X-988 will be bothering them anytime soon, with nothing but wreckage floating in orbit now. Carter is in the process of congratulating her men and women on a job well-done when she receives an urgent signal coming in via subspace transmitter. She asks her crew to quiet down and put the message through, and is shocked to see Colonel Abraham Ellis's face on the screen. The last time the rest of the refugee fleet was seen, it was departing for the Pegasus Galaxy in search of the incommunicado Atlantis Expedition ("Loyalties"), so hearing from them now is a surprise indeed.

Ellis says that he and the rest of the flotilla are just reentering the Milky Way now, skirting the war zone and coming toward the Beta Site via Heliopolis. They expect to arrive within three to four hours, with the much-awaited news about Atlantis... and a gift that the Phoenix picked up along the way. Sam tries to get more out of him, but the Colonel just smiles and says that they'll explain it all when they get there. The connection is cut and, deciding that life must go on, Carter turns back to her crew and continues the celebration of their victory.

Impossibly far away, on the other side of the galactic core, another ship is exiting hyperspace; a Der'kal cruiser emerges into orbit around Earth, the planet still completely blockaded by a small armada of alien craft. Billows of smoke can be seen clogging the skies of several large areas on the surface, marking locations of enemy manufacturing and shipbuilding facilities. And in orbit, two space-based shipyards have been finished, each one in the process of churning out new vessels to finish conquering the galaxy with. As the new arrival slowly moves to join its fellow, the view zooms in on one larger ship in particular—the advanced cruiser that landed at the United Nations during the Battle of Earth and later destroyed the Daedalus ("Star By Star"). Interestingly, a scavenged piece of metal with the block letters AURORA has been affixed to its hull... a grim souvenir from that fateful day.

Deep within the bowels of the ship, its commander sits inside a small chamber, fingering his plasma pistol impatiently. Vur'naa seems infinitely annoyed, and at length shoves his pistol into its holster, standing and glaring at something offscreen with a look of obscene annoyance. He turns to one of the warriors in the room and demands that an audience with a te'kal be arranged as soon as possible. He needs to transmit a message to the Exarch regarding his pet project, and he wants no bureaucratic red tape getting in his way. The warrior nods gruffly and exits, briefly revealing the busy hallway beyond, where dozens of alien attendants rush about.

Dismissing the second guard, Vur'naa sits back down into his chair, a rare look of contemplation on his face. Then he leans forward and speaks to someone unseen, asking, for what sounds like the millionth time, if his guest is ready to begin. The camera slowly pans around the chamber to reveal a bloodied figure strapped prone to a slanted table, his arms and legs bound by metal restraints and what remains of his clothing tattered and torn. When he finally lifts his head to stare defiantly out at his captor, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell has only one thing to say; "Go to Hell." Vur'naa grins maliciously, his old penchant for torture returning after so long since he last had one of the famous SG-1 before him ("Inroads, Part 2"). He's going to enjoy this.

On the surface, Lor'al has arranged for a meeting of the various fleet commanders from around Der'kal-held space in the former headquarters of the United Nations, long since turned into a sort of forward command center for the invasion. The female admiral still looks somewhat harried, more evidence that she is not as immune to the effects of a Tok'ra blending as she previously thought, and appears to have missed quite a bit of sleep of late. But nonetheless, she has lost none of her vicious and cruel nature or influence, and the instant she steps into the General Assembly chamber, where all her subordinates wait, a feeling of fearful respect permeates the area. Contrary to the last meeting of fleet officials she held ("United We Stand"), there are substantially less males here, and now almost half of the represented battle groups appear to be led by females. Obviously, her agenda is being met just as readily as that of the Exarch.

Standing before the various leaders of the invasion armada, she proclaims that today is a most-joyous one; they move even now against the infidel world of Dakara, the last bastion of Alliance power westward of the galactic core. When it has finally fallen, the Der'kal shall have their greatest victory since the one here at Earth, and at long last, fully half of this galaxy will be under their control. The Free Jaffa will lose their most sacred world, and their morale will be shattered. This day will mark a new chapter for their people!

But not all the commanders seem to agree. Several mutter amongst one another that she said a similar thing just prior to their capture of Earth, and yet the war has been bogged down in stalemates and world-trades ever since then. Some of them suggest ceasing offensive action for the time being, at least until they can sufficiently replenish their fleet from the devastating losses they took defeating the Tau'ri, and the more recent ones they've faced at the hands of resurgent Alliance counterattacks. In all the galaxies their armada has lain waste to, none has taken so long to pacify as this one, and they have never suffered such casualties in the process. Perhaps they should not have waited so long to strike... and perhaps they have turned to the wrong person to do the striking.

Lor'al glances down at the array of commanders and growls angrily. Deciding that this simply is not worthy of her time or effort, she begins to turn away from the speaker's platform to return to her ship... and then pauses. Pulling out her pistol, she orders his warriors to take up firing positions, and dozens of alien soldiers suddenly appear in the translation booths lining the walls, all aiming down at their surprised superiors. Male and female admirals alike are stunned at this turn of events, and some shout that this is madness. But Lor'al no longer seems to care, and she gives the order for her men to fire. As green light fills the room, a crazed look comes into her eyes, twisted and determined to finish this war—and to destroy anyone who stands in her way.

Meanwhile, Mitchell is screaming in pain as Vur'naa fires into his leg, leaving deep gashes and plasma burns. The alien commander, looking bored, says that he's had the pleasure of mutilating the bodies of dozens of species, but none have ever been so squishy and interesting as that of humans. Clenching his teeth and trying not to cry out, Mitchell asks why the Der'kal didn't just stay in one of those galaxies then. Why bother invading the Milky Way if they already had a handful of others defeated and ripe for the taking? Or do they just love the satisfaction of tormenting innocent others like this?

In a rare moment of conciliation, Vur'naa pauses, looking queerly at his helpless prisoner. Slowly lowering his pistol, and putting his interrogation session on hold, he asks why Cameron never asked that question in all the months he's been here, and why it's just come up now. But the Lt. Col. honestly has no answer; he's been wondering ever since the invasion began, and maybe he's just finally getting used to the nonstop pain that he's coherent enough to talk about it again. Still eyeing him suspiciously, Vur'naa slowly explains that it wasn't always this way, and that once, long ago, the Der'kal lived in peace and prosperity, in a galaxy so far away that they no longer know the way home. But then came the Great War, and—

At that he stops, shaking his head and growling angrily for letting himself get so distracted. He slaps Mitchell across the face with his pistol, leaving a deep slice, and roars that he will get the answers he wants. But Cameron has already seen that this evil exterior he and SG-1 have seen for so long can be broken, if only briefly, and perhaps the same can be true for this strange, twisted species as a whole, too.

At the Beta Site, Talbot is sitting in a conference room inside the mountain, trying to write up a speech that she's supposed to give to the Free People's Assembly this afternoon. Setting up a provisional government ("Loyalties") was the easy part, it seems. It's the process of getting anything done and giving people a sense of confidence in it that will be the real test of the FPE and the refugees alike. She finishes one draft of her monologue, looks it over once, then crumples it up and throws it in a wastebasket already overflowing with papers. Apparently, she's been at this for a while... and is not at all satisfied with anything that she's managed to come up with.

A sudden knock at the door startles her, and Talbot turns to see Colonel Taylor standing there, a mug of coffee in one hand and a sandwich in another. He places the two before the stressed diplomat and orders her to eat, holding out a note from Dr. Lam that quite clearly says "Eat. Doctor's orders." on it. Laughing wearily, Talbot puts down her pen and gratefully begins munching on the food, thanking Taylor for the thought. But he says it was no trouble at all, and honestly, he's being selfish here; he certainly doesn't want the work of heading up the FPE to fall to him, so keeping Talbot alive and healthy is in his best interest. She laughs again and asks if they've heard anything else from Ellis and the fleet, but they're still making their way toward them, and they should be passing Heliopolis about now. They'll be back soon, and when they are, they'll all learn just what it is they found out there in Pegasus.
