SG1 Best Episode Tournament - Seasons 1 through 7 overall CTD.
This was a great tournament. Da_hippie, you did a good job a continuing this thread after Katerine's absence. I wish that WoO or Full Circle won, but oh well, Lost City Part 2 was an awesome ep too.
I voted for WoO, because it is my favorite episode (LC2, coming into a close 2nd). However I think the top two episodes got into the final round, belong in the final round.
The thing about LC2, was the space battle! F-302 vs Death Glider! Prometheus vs Anubis' Ha'tak! The Space Battle Freak's {mod snip}dream! Seven years of watching Stargate and waiting, paid off big time.
I voted for WoO, because I just love this episode! It's a Jack and Teal'c center episode! The humor, the fruit loops, the kiss, the golf, and the team effort! Need I say more?
Oh, cool idea. :-) How did you figure out what place they were in? Was it just that they were in the top 50? I tried to figure this out, but there were too many ties, so...
My Top Ten and How They Fared:
01. (205) Need - 140th place (round 14)
02. (304) Legacy - 66th place (round 76)
03. (110) Torment of Tantalus - 22nd place (round 115)
04. (209) Secrets - 52nd place (round 85)
05. (201) The Serpent's Lair - 6th place (round 131)
06. (507) Beast of Burden - 135th place (round 19)
07. (408) The First Ones - 101st place (round 48)
08. (112) Fire and Water - 78th place (round 67)
09. (204) The Gamekeeper - 145th place (round 10)
10. (219) One False Step - 141st place (round 13)
Wow... That's pretty depressing, too. *g* I'm surprised I stuck around for the whole thing. ;-)
I had to number/rank most of the episodes myself. When it was a tie, I assigned them both the same number and then skipped the next number, so the first episode out was still #154.
How I Ranked the Top 10 from the Tournament: (My list only includes the top 40 episodes.)
1. (720) Lost City, Part 2 (not ranked)
2. (406) Window of Opportunity (not ranked)
3. (215) The Fifth Race - Round 134 (#25 on my list)
4. (606) Abyss - Round 133 (#11 on my list)
5. (719) Lost City, Part 1 - Round 132 (not ranked)
6. (201) The Serpent's Lair - Round 131 (#5 on my list)
7. (622) Full Circle - Round 130 (not ranked)
8. (102) Children of the Gods, Part 2 - Round 129 (#22 on my list)
9. (122) Within The Serpent's Grasp - Round 128 (#13 on my list)
10. (120) There But for the Grace of God - Round 127 (#15 on my list)

Aw, thanks. :-)
I'm just looking at a list of the S2 episodes and can't for the life of me fathom how that season would end up at the bottom of the pile. (I like S4 much better than you do but I fear that it's the baneful introduction of The Ship that puts it at the top, not the excellent episodes like The First Ones.) But S2, I mean c'mon ... it introduces the Tok'ra mythology, Jacob Carter, the Asgard, etc., not to mention continuing the Apophis and Sha'are arcs. There are a few out-and-out stinkers but nothing on the scale of Emancipation, Chimera, Memento, nor anything as snoozingly dull as Revisions, IMHO.
... and boy am I sorry I raised the vegetable metaphor now.
I agree...mostly. Actually, there were some good episodes in season 4 and episodes were a bit more shiny and pretty, but just missing the things I liked most about the show. :-)
Anyway, I think I'm just out of synch with what a lot of people on this particular forum tend to like, which is cool. I've learned a lot here and it's been fun. :-)
I actually liked Revisions. ;-) It seemed like the type of episode that could have taken place in almost any season and had lots of team and what I thought was an interesting story. ;-)

The thing about LC2, was the space battle!
*g* I hated the space battle. While I liked some of the character stuff in this episode, most of that was in Part 1 and I hated all the Sam stuff in this episode and hated that Jack and Daniel didn't get any goodbye scenes (other than that one lame scene where they said nothing) and Sam and Teal'c each had two scenes alone with Jack. This episode was a horrible, horrible, horrible dissapointment--especially the ending.
I voted for WoO, because I just love this episode! It's a Jack and Teal'c center episode! The humor, the fruit loops, the kiss, the golf, and the team effort!
This was a fun episode to watch once or twice, but as time has gone on, the parts I hated the first time grate on me more and more so that I don't even like to watch it any more: the kiss--which Sam did not consent to and thus Jack was basically manhandling her (and I would not like it if my husband treated me that way, much less my boss), Jack allowing Daniel to get knocked over repeatedly (I believe both of these things were out of character for Jack), and then, I thought it didn't make sense for Jack to be talking to the guy at the end since it was Daniel who'd lost his wife, not Jack. (Yes, I know that Jack had lost his son, but it just seemed to make more sense that Daniel would identify with that guy's problem since his situation more closely resembled Daniel's--his wife's long illness compares more closely to Daniel's watching his wife suffer until she was finally killed.)
Thanks to Katerine and da_hippie for the tournament. :-)
Thanks to Katerine for kicking off such an ambitious tournament and to da_hippie for picking up the ball.
Also thanks to all the "regulars". I've enjoyed reading everyone's comments on the episodes and have been reminded quite a few times of tidbits I forgot or little things I loved about the early years of the show.
That's all; back to your regularly-scheduled voting. I'll do the episode and season tallies based on votes (not eliminations) after the tournament is done.
Just revived this to ask Katerine if she's given up on this bit?
Sorry about the delay in this - I kept getting caught up in other things.
Here are the results of the tournament, based on all votes in valid posts. The difference between this and the official results , is that the official results are based on the majority in any given round, while this list is based on ALL votes in ALL rounds.
The percentage listed is the average percentage of votes that ep got during all of the rounds up until it was eliminated. It's also weighted a little, so votes in early rounds count a bit more than votes in later rounds. The object is to distinguish between those eps that had been getting votes for a while, vs. those eps that had gotten surges of votes as other eps were eliminated. FYI, the very last round is not counted, since both WoO and Lost City got around 50% of the votes, and that would have thrown things off. Tiebreakers are also not counted, for the same reason.
And here are the overall season rankings, based on the above list. The percentage is the average of the percentages for all of that season's episodes. First place is listed first:
