Ooh...I have 2 more days of PTO I have to burn off before the end of the year, and no plans. Looks like this is as good a reason as any to take the day off

I forgot to post this as I got all excited about the Hell Bent & The Husbands of River Song.

Anyway, Big Finish tweeted the CD covers for The Diary Of River Song. Very pretty they are too.

          Survivors: Series 4 – Coming June 2016

          http://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/surv...ming-june-2016

Zoe Tapper joins the battle for survival in 2016, with Big Finish's fourth box-set of post-apocalyptic stories.

Zoe, who starred as Anya Raczynski in the 2008 BBC reboot of Survivors and has also appeared in Demons, Mr Selfridge and The Martian Chronicles, will portray government official Evelyn Piper - who listeners will first encounter in a flashback to the beginnings of the plague that decimated the globe.

It begins with just a few people falling ill. Another flu virus that spreads around the globe. And then the reports begin that people are dying…

When most of the world's population is wiped out, a handful of survivors are left to pick up the pieces.

Cities become graveyards. Technology becomes largely obsolete. Mankind must start again…

Based on Terry Nation's cult post-apocalyptic drama, Survivors: Series 4 presents a quartet of new stories from the world of the original television programme.

After the harrowing events of Survivors: Series 3, the new series finds Greg (Ian McCulloch) and Jenny (Lucy Fleming) out on the road, reaching out to other survivors on behalf of the Whitecross Community. Their journey will bring them back into contact with Jackie (Louise Jameson) and Molly (Fiona Sheehan) – and a new community headed by Theo, an inspirational leader played by Ramon Tikaram (UNIT: The New Series, The Prisoner, Happy Valley).

'I’m delighted that the first three series met with such acclaim,’ says producer David Richardson, 'and I’m very excited by the new story lines that script editor Matt Fitton and his team of writers have been spinning. There are plenty of shocking twists and turns yet to come…'

Survivors: Series 4 comprises four full-cast dramas, and also features bonus behind-the-scenes interviews with cast and crew.

4.1 The Old Ways by Ken Bentley

The Government has plans for a national state of emergency. But when Evelyn Piper and her colleagues shelter in the Tartarus bunker, they discover no amount of planning can prepare for the reality of the Death...

4.2 For the Good of the Cause by Louise Jameson

One old friend calls on Greg and Jenny to look after another. Together, they visit a utopian community where the inspirational Theo seems to have founded the perfect way of life...

          4.3 Collision by Christopher Hatherall

When the old world collides with the new, casualties are unavoidable. While Greg and Theo work together for the future, Jenny tries to save lives - with the help of a troubled young man called Michael...

4.4 Forgive and Forget by Matt Fitton

As long-buried crimes surface, resentment and recrimination threaten to destroy the peace of the Foundation. Jenny, Jackie and Molly have their own trials to bear, and Greg confronts the truth of this new world head on. For some, nothing will ever be the same…

Survivors: Series 4 is due for release in June 2016, with Series 5 following in November 2016. Both series can be pre-ordered today for just £25 each on CD, or £20 to download. And remember, when you choose to buy this release on CD directly from Big Finish, you will also unlock instant access to a digital copy for download.

The first three series are still available to order today – with the opening episode Survivors: Revelation available to download for free. An audiobook reading of Terry Nation's 1976 novelisation is also available, performed by original series cast member Carolyn Seymour.

I find it odd that they called that one a UNIT set...it's not really a UNIT series, it's more along the lines of what it would be like to get a Pertwee/UNIT season, only starring Sylvester McCoy instead. And Alex Macqueen.

Which is to say: it's great fun

Similar to the New Benny Adventures. Which I find a touch sad. Don't get me wrong I greatly enjoyed both offerings. But if I buy a UNIT boxset, I WANT it to be about UNIT... if I buy a Benny boxset, I don't want her to be just another companion...

I haven't gone thru the Benny solo releases, so I'm really not sure. Add the extra dimension of him interacting with himself at different points on his own timeline, and it becomes like trying to untangle the rat's nest of cables behind my TV

                    Broadly speaking, my understanding is:
                    • As young men, he and Narvin are involved in the Timonic Fusion Device experiment (from the backstory of the first series of Gallifrey)
                    • Becomes a professor at the Academy, at some point being either a teacher or a mentor to Romana (scenes played out in the Pandora/Romana storyline in Gallifrey)
                    • Becomes a politician, events of Gallifrey series 1-4 play out. In the background during this period, we know he's been interacting with future versions of himself, who are running/collecting for the Braxiatel Collection. When last we see him, he meets Benny for the first time--from his POV. She's already known him for many years in her personal timeline
                    • Events of the Benny box sets happen here...at least I reason so because Brax seems to be living a linear life, without the benefit of a TARDIS or time travel of any kind.
                    • AT SOME POINT that I don't believe we've seen yet, he regains the ability to travel in time and/or a new TARDIS
                    • With the ability to travel returned to him--and already knowing that he's 'predestined' to establish the Collection and interact with past and future versions of himself--presumably he establishes the Braxiatel Collection around here somewhere
                    • Braxiatel and Benny meet for the first time...again. This time, he seems to know her, but she's never met him before (this happens in the new Novel Adaptation that came out today, Theatre of War)
                    • Presumably, this is the point at which the Benny solo single-disc adventures happen, since the Collection plays a role throughout
                    • At some point after he reacquires a TARDIS, he makes a trip to rescue Romana Trey, Narvin, and Ace (Intervention Earth)

I know that's rough/broad strokes, but of what I know, it seems to make sense in my head. Keeping in mind, of course, my couple of caveats: I have not listened to the Benny single-disc range, and my 'personal canon' (TV, BF audio, the book Engines of War, and nothing else) being the only sources I factor into consideration

Cheers Digi - that matches what I think.

Except for one thing. I suspect that Braxiatel re-acquired a TARDIS and rescued Romana PRIOR to establishing the collection...

                      The last Benny boxset states

                      Spoiler:

that Brax was trying to find a way to get home or something to that ilk, which would correlate with him dropping in right in time to rescue Romana. I'd say he then does whatever is required to defeat Omega before then going off to set up the collection...

                      [/spoiler]

I don't remember exactly what happened then, but I'll take your word for it. Seems reasonable, and it tracks reasonably well if regaining a TARDIS is how he gets back the time travel he uses to build the Collection.

But the one I'm *desperately* looking forward to is the 8th Doctor's 'Time War' boxset...

Oh, and the story synopses for the episodes of the second War box set as well:

                                Spoiler:
Legion of the Lost by John Dorney

In a time of war, every means of victory must be explored. In the Time War, the unthinkable must be thought, and neither side can afford to be squeamish about their methods.

When the destruction of an obscene weapon leads to the Time Lord once known as the Doctor uncovering a secret Gallifreyan initiative, he cannot believe what is being considered.

Should victory be sought at any cost? Or are there worse possibilities than losing to the Daleks..?

A Thing of Guile by Phil Mulryne

The Daleks are developing a secret weapon on Asteroid Theta 12. It is imperative that their plans are uncovered.

Cardinal Ollistra has her hands full studying the range of ancient and mysterious armaments the universe has to offer, but she makes it a personal mission to investigate the Dalek project.

On this dangerous assignment, there is one particular Time Lord she wants at her side - and he will be accompanying her whether he wants to or not.

                                The Neverwhen by Matt Fitton

On an isolated world ravaged by battle, time itself has become a weapon, laying waste to all who live and die there. Arms and technology are in a state of flux – and it seems that everlasting war is their only option.

The arrival of one battered Type Forty TARDIS inside this nightmare offers hope to the combatants trapped within.

But when he discovers the truth, the horrors of the Neverwhen will shock even the War Doctor…
