A Late Merry Christmas to you all.

yamiinsane, lovely picture as usual.

It makes me sad that Sanctuary never got round to making a Christmas episode like the other SyFy shows ( Haven, Eureka, Warehouse 13).

It's a fun episode that goes outside of the regular canon where they can have some fun. Makes me gloomy thinking of all the Teslen fun that could have happened.

Yeah but A) that is what FF is for and B) I rather they don't do 'holiday specials' because it wouldn't fit the premise of the show (Can you imagine Henry's reaction to Will shooting down Santa's reindeer? NO BUNNIES) Then if you rewatch it at another time of year it just looks campy and pandering and comes across as stupid.

I mostly agree. Christmas and other similarly themed eps do well in some series like Supernatural or Bones because Christmas time often tells a lot of people and their relationships with other people. That aspect is strongly there in Bones, and I like how Christmas eps show how Brennan and her relationships chance over time.

In Supernatural, all Yule and Christmas and whatever mythology gives a good reason for Christmas themed episodes. Also Christmas work well with showing the difference between hunter world and normal world. Actually my all time favorite tv moments are in a Christmas episode of Supernatural (When a child sneaks to see his presents(?), the house is full of pretty decorations and Christmas three is beautiful. A themed song plays, I think it is Oh Holy Night. Later on, Sam and Dean sing (badly) the same song to a trailer drunk, when they are trying to cover their tracks.)

Mythology might work in Sanctuary too, but I don't think Sanctuary did enough mythology for it to go fluidly for Christmas themed ep. Most eps weren't heavy with relationships either so that aspect would stand out in a Christmas ep and make it stood out not in a good way.

I don't see an angle, a theme besides Christmas, that is needed for a well working Christmas episode... Except maybe history. But that alone doesn't make much of a plot for a Christmas episode, and Christmases Past is done so often it is super difficult to do, especially when there is a more adventurous plot needed for the ep to go well with other eps of a series like Sanctuary. In theory, her time warp had potential for a history review but changing history that happened to happen only during Christmases? The amount of feeble plot devices needed for that is tremendous.

Don't get me wrong, I love themed eps They are just challenging to write so that they work in levels other than fluff or themed jokes. If someone had an idea for a Christmas ep that does well with other series and generally works, of course I'd want to see it.

yami That is lovely I really wish my bunnies weren't so hyperactive and insisted everythign had a Teslen story attached to it.

Speaking of Teslen though I think 10/1 if they did any kind of holiday special, any fluffy lovel-ness would be pushed onto Helen and Druitt and they Do NOT have the chemistry of Teslen. I don't mean any disrespect to A/T or C/H but they play the time worn "I once loved you but too much has happened and I can't ever be with you" better than the fun flirty "You're Hot, I'm Hot we should Snog" you get with Teslen
