For those who don’t know, the general idea of transhumanism is the betterment of the human body and mind through the use of technological and biological improvements. Often the endgoal is cited as the creation of a type of posthuman or even what is referred to as the “Posthuman God”
On the one hand in the BSG universe, you have people like the STO who are trying to achieve immortality through technological/digital means.
Meanwhile, on the other extreme, there are the Cylons who want to turn themselves into from technological into biological living beings.
Then there are different levels of hybrids in between these two types of lifeforms.
The “First Hybrid” seen in Razor, who seems to suggest he was a human (in my opinion the future of D Graystone) who was turned into this via integration of mechanical interfaces into his biology. He points out a knowledge of something greater than himself (events past present & future) well beyond his vicinity or influence.
Future Hybrids are clearly entirely synthetic-biological constructs, though do no seem to have a fully formed bodily system, instead more supplemented by technological parts. They also seem to have a more intimate knowledge with the grander scheme of the universe and all its most miniscule activities. At the same time they are much less coherent and rational than the previous type of hybrid, perhaps as a result of the more synthetic nature.
There is also the Hera-type hybrid, who is fully capable of coherent, social thought; yet is also in tune with something more, as demonstrated on several occasions on Galactica through visions/drawings/speech.
The Virtual Characters seem to have made it clear that a part of “God’s” ultimate plan was the unification of the human (biological) and Cylon (technological) lifeforms into a single, new type of race (modern humans). Would this give them hem a higher awareness to the universe on some level so that they could “know” god better and possible escape the cycles that had plagued their pasts?
