    The Disney Canon

With yesterday's announcements regarding the future of the Star Wars universe, the canon body has changed (shrunk) dramatically.

The old Star Wars Expanded Universe spanned tens of thousands of years, hundreds upon hundreds of comics, dozens of books, dozens of video games, a number of reference guides, as well as (obviously) all of the films and television series episodes, among other things. No longer.

As you may or may not be aware, all future publications will be considered as fully canon as the films, as they will be developed in conjunction with the Lucasfilm Story Group. As the LSG is still quite new, however, that means that all that old material is being blown away, and it's just the screen materials plus the new LSG-co-developed materials that will form the new 'factual' Star Wars universe.

As such, the new canon of the Star Wars universe, according to its new Disney masters, consists of:

    Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
The Clone Wars 2.16 - Cat and Mouse

I'm quite satisfied, actually. It was a monster.
No offense to the good stories, but canon should stick to the screen.

My question is when certain characters like Ahsoka are not in episodes. Are those episodes before the The Clone Wars movie ?

I'm not sure I understand the question. I laid out everything in chron. order--what is it you need to know?

This decision doesn't do that. It just says that everything released, aired, screened, written, and illustrated from now on is part of the canon, and 'oh by the way, everything else that's been created for the last 30 years doesn't count anymore.'

What gets my goat about this the most is that when the EU started, there was to be no SW 7-9, there was to be no SW 7-9 until what, 2 years ago? Now that the want to make 7-9 the are effectively levelling the sandpit after telling everyone to go and play in it. Sure, they have every right to do it, it IS their sandpit, but I think EU fans have a right to be PO'ed about it as well.

Weren't a lot of novels completely disregarded when Lucas made episodes one through three though? I mean granted that's not the entire EU but my point is that it isn't without precedent.
Please do me a huge favour and help me be with the love of my life.

Nope. The prequel era was largely glossed over until the movies came along. My understanding is that that was largely at the direction of Lucas Licensing, because they knew there were plans to do movies in that era at some point in the future.

                        edit;
To establish a bit more of a timeline here, George Lucas began writing Episode I sometime in 1995, with pre-production happening through late 1996 and early 1997, and principal photography being done over the summer of 1997. Theatrical release, as we know, followed in May of 1999.

The first prequel-era (ie: 32-19 BBY) anything was the novelization of Episode I, in April of 1999.

This annoys me to no end. There are a lot of characters and stories I love that have been swept away.
I tell you Teal'c, hockey is the coolest game on Earth!

Did you not say it is played on ice, O'Neill?

"The EU canon will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that the Emperor Disney has dissolved the EU permanently. The last remnants of KOTOR have been swept away"

"That's Impossible how will Disney maintain control without the fans?"

"The LGS will now have direct control over the Canon. Fear will keep the fans in line, fear of us screwing the pooch further"
