If someone suggested that anyone over 60 be taken out the back and shot be passed as a law, would it matter if it would not pass or not?
Or would you just think there was something fundamentally wrong with the suggestion?

And I don't think it could gain much support from most Republicans, either. I wouldn't support it. Is the EPA a bloated, overreaching federal bureaucracy that needs to be severely reigned in? Absolutely. Should it be closed altogether? No.

No, I would just tag the person in my head as a nut job and pay him all due consideration. The world is chock full of nuts. Another one added to the pile makes little difference.

Well, someone is missing the point. Haven't I always said that everyone has the right to speak, the audience decides the value of what is said? A congresscritter can propose any bill he wants, if it's not going to even get serious attention, what does it matter? That particular congresscritter is simply nuts.

The depth of human history is -littered- with really bad idea's that no one thought would actually happen and did.
Some idea's are simply bad, dangerous or outright evil and should not be entertained -period-.

And it is the audience's (in this case, Congress) job to decide the value of those ideas. They should not be silenced because some self-appointed arbitrator thinks they should not be expressed.

If free speech or the free expression of ideas in the form of a bill is not for everyone, it means nothing. The bill to kill off the EPA is just as harebrained as your idea about killing off anyone over 60. But both of you have the right to express those ideas.

And if you do advocate censorship for the betterment of society, who decides?
