Right now, beyond the complains of those who are never satisfied, I'd say the US is doing a-okay.

There's over a year to go until the election. This is the time when all the crazies get to have some fun playing politics. They know they don't have a chance of winning, but at this stage it doesn't matter. When the election gets closer and the competition turns serious and they actually have to defend the policies and present budgets to support them, the wall builders and other assorted time-wasters will have long since dropped out.

But no matter who wins, the complainers still won't be happy.
