Personally, I like it better this way. Otherwise I'd be wondering WHAT got deleted and why. The Mod posts saying, "Some posts have been deleted..." is curiosity-inducing enough without having actual visible gaps in the thread. That's my opinion, anyway.

Yep, we've currently got the forum set so that only mods and the person who deleted his/her own post can see deletion notices (including the reason for deletion, if you gave one).
We decided to hide the notices for all sorts of reasons, including keeping threads clean and tidy and not raising questions over who deleted a post and why every time one pops up.GateWorld Podcast - Info - iTunes - Google

No biggie to me. I don't delete my posts very often and if I do I know why I did it... and then I lose track of things or forget I posted something in the first place so it makes no difference.

Originally posted by Ugly PigNo, but if there's something missing and you don't know it then what's still there might become confusing. Like, poster A posts one message, poster B replies with something rude and poster C comments on poster B. Then poster B's post is removed and it may look like poster C is commenting on something/someone else.

This may be my much ado about nothing, but here goes:
If I'm trying to avoid major spoilers for upcoming episodes, is it reasonable to assume that I should stay away from the GateWorld Home Page?
I'll put the examples for this question (?) in spoiler space in case there are people out there who actually do avoid the GW Home Page and therefore have no idea what I'm talking about.
I have not read the spoiler information about S8's "Threads", but I figure that it somehow involvesSpoiler:a certain pairing (or pairings). It wasn't my intention to know anything more than the title of the episode when it was announced. The only reason I know as much as I do is because certain forum threads went ballistic in post counts immediately following the posting of the spoiler information, as well as a few ill-placed comments by otherwise well-meaning individuals.
(BTW, if I'm wrong about my assumptions, don't tell me!. I'm serious. Don't. Let me remain ignorant and wrong. I'm not trying to discuss that episode at all. )
Tonight I check the GW Home Page and see the following:
Spoiler:Mel Harris talks Oma's return: GateWorld talks with "Oma Desala" actress Mel Harris about her return in Stargate SG-1's "Threads."
Based on that information (in the headline), I would say "Cool!" and then not read the actual story. In fact, I did say that and I still haven't read the story. However, I was kind of irked to be told, in the headline blurb, exactly which episode is involved. To me, that's a "major" spoiler...probably one that wouldn't have survived as secret to anyone by the time 2005 rolled around, but still.
I'm not a journalist and I don't want to second-guess anyone's writing, but would it have been as effective to just saySpoiler:Mel Harris talks Oma's return: GateWorld talks with "Oma Desala" actress Mel Harris about her return in an upcoming Stargate SG-1 episode.
I love the GW Home Page. I love the stories about the producers, interviews, ratings, GW articles, etc. I've never had any problem with the headlines that announce new photo galleries or plot details, I just don't actually look at the plot details or photos. (Of course, they end up in someone's sig, but that's another story.) Maybe I'm just irked because it's this character...and therefore a major story arc? ...that and I have a headache.

Very good point AG. And I agree with you. I don't believe the episode needs to be named in the blurb or the headline. Once you click on the article however, you're fair game for spoilers.
Lol - actually, SaharaGate and I were having a conversation a few weeks ago, and it involved something on the GW home page. I got excited and clicked on the headline, and up came the ominous yellow spoiler text - I was all:
Avert your eyes!!!! agggghhhh evil!!!!!
so yes.. I wonder if whoever writes the blurbs could possibly take this into account? we would be very appreciative..
and, if it's David, you could always let us know your address and we'll send you a box of Chocolates or something equally yummy....
(and we wouldnt even consider giving that kind of info to Shadow.......would we??Last edited by Jafana; 14 August 2004, 09:06 PM.

I do actually wonder about the GW homepage sometimes. And that new bit of news you mentioned gave me pause for a good couple of seconds as I wondered if GW's definition of "spoiler" was a little more... relaxed than I thought.
I read spoilers, but I have a lot of sympathy for those who don't. And I don't necessarily read ALL the spoilers... although SOME folks around here have managed to spoil me more than I spoiled myself.Last edited by ShadowMaat; 14 August 2004, 09:16 PM.

Not sure where you heard that, but it sounds interesting. Not sure though, not that anyone would probably tell you.__

I know that there are times the site is down for mateince(sp). Could it be posted somewhere on the site to let people know when it would be?
The reason I am asking I tried to log on the site off and on today but could not reach it. The post would help so they would not be mad at you for the site being down.
Thanks.
