hey I used uber a bunch when I went to DC over the summer. It was a God send for us....and they were quick and affordable. The drivers were really nice too.

I just don't get how the business model even works.

1: Safety considerations, from both the driver and passenger perspectives. Is this driver/passenger a nutjob, criminal thug, rapist or worse?

2: Unless a person almost never needs a car, I can't see choosing to use this instead of owning a car. I regularly carry and move things that a typical economy car couldn't handle.

3: There is only one person on the face of the earth that I trust in the driver's seat and that's me. I have never felt comfortable being the passenger in a car.

Anyways... as I understand it, even women can be drivers for the service, so they don't even reduce the number of women drivers on the road. What the hell good do they do?

you are over thinking it. I own a car. But sometimes you may be in a situation where you can't have your car (in a crowded downtown area) that is just too congested. To be an Uber driver you have to go through an application process and you get reviewed, etc. I think if you really wanted to be a criminal nut job rapist, you're not going to go on record and jump through all the hoops, set up a bank account etc etc to become an Uber driver just to go crazy and kill someone. There would be too many ways to track you down.
