It is probable something similiar to the chaps that cowboys wore in the American cowboy movies. (I think working cowboys still do on the range.)

The thread on the leather pants...could be chaps...probably is...but I prefer to think that the Sodan couldn't find any fighting pants that fit properly for Mitchell. Does anyone have a pic of the back of the Sodan guy's pants to see if its the same style?
