sigpic Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.
Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.
Columbo, season 6, ep. 3, "The Bye-Bye Sky High IQ Murder Case".

This is the one that started it all, the original pilot episode starring Peter Falk as Lt. Frank Columbo of the LAPD.
Columbo appears more smartly dressed, with Peter Falk appearing in suits, and with shorter hair, rather than the shabby appearance that would later become the character's trademark. Also, he's more abrupt with the suspect, even losing his temper at one point - rather than being his lovable absentminded self that we know and love.
The raincoat and cigar make their first appearance, but his car - the battered Peugeot 403 - won't appear until the second episode of the first season proper, "Death Lends A Hand".
And before anyone asks, yes, it's official, Columbo's first name is Frank. If you pause at just the right place, you can just about make out the signature on his LAPD ID card in the episode "Dead Weight".
