That really depends on what one would consider unnecessary, especially given how serialized DS9 is in comparison to other shows. It doesn't exactly have a lot of fluff.

Well, there's a lot of things.
Episodes that really don't follow the overall plot line that is introduced later in the series.
Stand alone episodes that really suck.
Pretty much all the ferengi episodes.
If you're watching it on a DVD, skip past any scenes with Jake.
Could chop off atleast 6 hours alone just by following that guide.
Well if I applied the first two of the criteria you mentioned, I could chop off multiple whole seasons of Voyager.
All of it, for instance!

Been watching a lot of Treme today. I started watching it when it first premiered, but kind of lost track of it 2 or 3 weeks in so decided to wait till the season was over till I restarted....today!
