I was watching some of the older shows, and was wondering was there ever any initial thought to hooking up the characters of Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson at one time? Does anyone think they might make a better paring that the Samantha/Jack paring? It just seems like the Carter/Jackson characters had more in common? Just wanted to see what others thought?

Well there was potential for it from the start with Carter meeting Daniel "I always knew I'd like you." but the writers kept that as just friendship, and chose to elapse on the Sam/Jack opposites attract front, she was a scientist he was a military man, in a similar way to the Movie "Daniel and Jack" opposites friendship did.Originally posted by cassdarce

I was watching Children Of The Gods earlier and noticed that 'I knew I'd like you.' line. It struck me as having shippy potential. I think the reason S/D never really got of the ground was because of Sha're. A long, long time ago (in a galaxy far away...) I used to think that Sam and Daniel would probably end up together, if Sha're was ever out of the picture...
...but by the time she was the UST between Carter and O'Neill was just so much more appealing... they make a more interesting couple *because* they are so different. Plus the whole, 'they can never be together because the rules forbid it' which just isn't there for Sam and Dan makes for extra tension. It hotted the whole J/S ship up.
The other thing that put me off S/D was that until season 3, (I think) they had the same hair cut. It always used to make me laugh.
I could have lived with S/D, but I'm glad they ran with S/J in the end....Spoiler:
