Me think you doth protest too much.

IMO they have tons of romantic chemistry!

Hey, I hated the Princess (never did forgive the conniving little b**** for replacing my darling Sven) but even at the tender age of... er... 10? 12? Whatever, even at that young age I couldn't deny that Keith and Princess had the hots for each other.

...Oddly enough, they came from different worlds, too (literally), and he was her commander and... I really don't think I wanna go down that particular road of comparisons (), but the point is, even with all of that, I could see they had good romantic chemistry together and they were cartoons! But Jack and Sam? Nope. Don't see it and I'm never gonna.

I wasn't trying to say that being a romantic makes you automatically see chemistry between Sam and Jack. I was just saying that I'm a romantic so I sometimes look for romance. So I might be a little bit more inclined to see romantic chemistry. But that's just a theory. Interestingly enough I too thought that Sam and Pete had chemistry but I just don't like the character, or at least I don't like what was done with him.

I agree with shipper, sometimes people look for the romance, making them see the chemistry between people that other people may not see, probably because they either don't want to see it, or they just don't see it because they don't look for it.

It's not gonna happen so your question is moot.

I look for the romantic angle, but I do it more because I know how TV works these days and I like to see if I can figure out what the producers have planned. Sam and Jack were natural candidates and they did have good friendship-type chemistry, but I couldn't see any sparkage between them. I could tell that was the pair TPTB were gonna push, but I quickly lost interest because the match failed to convince me.

Now, on Gilmore Girls, I fell instantly in love with Luke and when I saw how he and Lorelai played off each other, I loved it even more. Total sparkage. Great romantic chemistry. I've enjoyed every aggravating moment of their snark-filled journey to shipdom.

I don't walk into a show saying "I hate ship", but I need to believe in it in order to like it and I can't believe it in Sam and Jack.

I have a theory Shadow, I think you just really like the name Luke. If Jack were named Luke you'd probably be more of a shipper than I am

I still think you can look for romance and be inclined to see chemistry, and not see it between those two. I'm sure there are romantics who looked for chemistry and were inclined to see it between Sam and Daniel. Or Jack and Janet. Heck, I saw a ton of chemistry between Daniel and Janet. Some people might have looked for chemistry between Jack and Sam, just because he's the lead male and she's the girl, and still not have seen it. I don't think it's a matter of looking for it, or wanting to see it. I think it just is. You see it, or you don't.

Since this thread is about 'ship in general I figured I'd post about a different pairing

To me the idea of Sam and Daniel is ick-worth because their relationship very much reminds me of my relationship with my sister. It also reminds me, to a lesser degree, of a relationship I had through highschool. (we've drifted apart since then, mostly due to distance )

The friendship I had with her was more like that of a second sister, while I love her it is definately in a sisterly way. And that's the exact same feel I get from Sam and Daniel.

Just had to get that off my chest

I agree, it is... 'ickish', i'm very happy that they didn't even remotely try to put them together like that.

And I see Jack and Sam's relationship as a father/daughter one which, for me, is even more icky than a brother/sister one. I don't see Daniel and Sam as brother and sister at all. I see them as two friends who are around the same age, are of equal intelligence and status, who can talk easily with each other about work and their personal lives. Much more compatible than Jack and Sam could ever hope to be.

I think Sam & Daniel have a lovely friend/sibling relationship. Don't see any romantic spark, never have. Kind of icks me out to think of it.

I first started watching Stargate in season 3 syndication, I think Point of View was my first episode, so I was aware from the getgo that Jack & Sam might be a "ship" on the show. I thought the UST was okay, but when I first saw D&C I thought the scenes showing Sam & Jack's "moments" were incredibly devoid of romantic chemistry, it was like the actors didn't even want to be playing them. WofO was better because it was so light-hearted. Then I saw Beneath the Surface and even with the actors playing the scenes where they have no memory I thought there was no spark. Totally lost interest in the S/J "ship" at that point. I still enjoy the friendship moments -- Jack teasing Sam about being tense ("as we met!"), Sam and Jack's banter in "Enemies", the elevator scene in "Chimera" are examples.

I didn't see the romantic chemistry on Babylon 5 (Sheridan and Delenn) either, but the inevitable consummation of that relationship was such an important (and predetermined) part of JMS's story that I didn't mind it much. It also didn't seem to affect the overall chemistry of the show because it was such a large ensemble cast. Always plenty of interesting relationship scenes to enjoy.

SG-1 has such a small main cast and depends so much on the chemistry between the team members that tinkering with a love relationship between two of them is a bit tricky. In the last part of season 7 Teal'c seemed to become some sort of Cupid at times and Daniel just seemed kind of clueless since I guess he doesn't know about S/J's hidden feelings (being absent during the big "reveal" in D&C).

I admit that I used to be much more into "ship" on shows but have become leery of them over the years after I've seen show after show screw them up. I'm almost reluctant to become invested in a relationship because I know it's not going to end up being near as satisfying as I want it to be. Even worse it can end up ruining the show for me -- "Alias" is about at that point on my scorecard.

The last romantic relationship I really adored was between John/Aeryn on Farscape, but looking back now I can see that the angst of their romance almost overwhelmed the show at points in seasons 3 and 4. At least they haven't gone that far on SG-1.
Life is hard...and it's harder if you're stupid

I went to school with a guy named Luke who was an absolute creep, so I should be biased agaist the name, not for it. And let's remember that since I'm the one who named Food Server Luke (who may be getting a last name in the final chapter) and since I named him after the Gilmore Girl's Luke, there isn't really all that much Luke-ness involved.

Now, if Jack had been a food server instead of a colonel, that could be a whole 'nother story...
