    Teryl Rothery 'gates to Eureka!

Fri, August 24, 2007 (Actor News)

    Reported by: Ian Mullen

Another cast member from the popular Stargate franchise will be guest appearing on Eureka. This time it will be Teryl Rothery, who is known for her role as Dr. Janet Fraiser in the popular series.

The 41 year old actress will appear as Diane Lancaster in the tenth episode of the season, 'God is In The Details.'

Rothery's most recent role is the new direct-to-DVD Babylon 5 movie "Babylon 5: The Lost Tales - Voices in the Dark." She has also recently been seen in episodes of ABC Family series Kyle XY, USA Network's Psych and several TV movies. The actress' resume recently includes a recurring role on Dead Like Me in 2004, and guest appearances on The Dead Zone in 2005 and Smallville in 2004.

Rothery follows fellow Stargate SG-1 actor Colin Cunningham who played Dr. Paul Suenos in 'Noche de Suenos,' and spin-off series Stargate Atlantis's David Nykl who appeared as Dr. Steven Whiticus in 'Unpredictable.'

Short Film FestivalKids program draws enthusiastic crowd

Deborah Nicol • The Desert Sun • August 27, 2007

You are never too old to be young again.

Sunday's Kids Shorts program of the Palm Springs ShortFest was enjoyed by a nearly full house watching films that were often a school thesis.

      **snippage**

Justin Guerrieri's USC thesis, "Rocketboy," recently won the best comics-oriented film award at Comic-Com.

After Guerrieri attached Robert Picardo ("Star Trek: Voyager," "Stargate") to the project, roles were soon filled by his friends, David Clennon and Hunter Gomez, and a day visit found Bill Nye (the Science Guy) in a space-suited cameo. "It was a very fortuitous gathering of the cast," Guerrieri said.

        Bridges to 'Practice'

        By Nellie Andreeva

        Aug 28, 2007

Emmy winner Beau Bridges has been tapped to star in Lifetime's drama pilot "Family Practice."

"Practice," from Sony Pictures TV and "Lost" co-creator Jeffrey Lieber, centers on a South Philly girl who becomes entangled personally and professionally with the affluent, Kennedyesque family members of one of the city's most prestigious law firms.

Bridges will play the family's patriarch, a brilliant, radical, Machiavellian lawyer who once defended the most controversial clients he could find. He is a peerless legal mind but not so successful as a father and a husband.

Bridges won Emmys for his roles in the telefilms "The Second Civil War," "Without Warning: The James Brady Story" and "The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom."

He earned his 11th Emmy nomination this year for his guest-starring role on NBC's "My Name Is Earl."

        Bridges is repped by CAA.

                  excerpt:
Among the many adventures of Odysseus in Homer's The Odyssey, The Isle of Mists ranks as one of the scariest, according to the author himself.

In the dark Greek classic, Odysseus' ship is wrecked on a bleak, fog-shrouded island that is home to the siren Persephone and the nightmarish Shadow Beasts. In Insight Film Studios' low-budget adaptation Odysseus and the Isle of Mists - commissioned by Sci Fi Channel in the U.S. and wrapping four weeks of production Sept. 15 - lead actor Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) comes ashore on Britannia Beach, north of Vancouver.

Production designer James Hazell (Painkiller Jane) says that, on film, B.C.'s locations easily pass for ancient Greece, especially with the period-inspired costuming of Beverley Wowchuk (Dr. Doolittle 3). The forests, beaches on the coast and abandoned quarry in Maple Ridge work for the storyline, he explains. Key set pieces such as the Ionian merchant ship, Homer's room, a cave, a destroyed alter and a volcano - which are all housed at a Langley studio - compete the period look.

Randal Edwards (The Best Years), JR BOURNE (Everything's Gone Green), Steve Bacic (Whistler) and Stefanie Von Pfetten (Battlestar Galactica) costar in the production.

The plot revolves around a man who loses his job and finds solace in an imaginary world concocted by his six-year-old daughter. Cox is set to play the grumpy capital fund group boss who suspects Murphy's character of wrong doing, but decides to turn the other cheek as long as he gets results.

Parker will play Murphy's separated wife who doesn't understand his fascination with their daughter's imaginary world. Davis will be playing a therapist that calls himself the Man Whisperer

Stepping Up In A Time Of Sorrow

A child is killed in a drive-by shooting and one social worker can't stand the silence that follows in fact-based A Winter Tale

                    JOHN GRIFFIN, The Gazette
                    Thursday August 30, 2007

A Winter Tale is an intensely powerful story about the reinstallation of moral responsibility in Toronto's black male community. Its prime movers walk it in real life like they talk it in this must-see fiction feature.

Writer-director Frances-Anne Solomon and featured actors Peter Williams and Michael Miller are in town this week for their film's three festival screenings. The last is Saturday at Quartier Latin at 1:20 p.m. You want to be there.

A Winter Tale is a human drama torn from today's headlines about an inner-city community reeling after the murder of an innocent kid in a drive-by shooting.

"People only knew about the tragedy from the outside, from the newspaper articles and outrage," Solomon explained under the sun on the terrace of the Hyatt Hotel yesterday. "I went inside the community when I started developing this project five years ago."

Like her actors, Solomon is focused and fiercely articulate, and the way phrases bounce instinctively between them suggests a whole lot of time spent in close proximity.

"I put out a casting call, and 90 men from the community came out for the audition."

Williams, one of the country's finest actors, and Miller, a community player looking for the next level in his craft, were two of 14 to make the final ensemble cut.

                    **snippage**

"We were going for the truth," Williams reinforced. "Even when we had the script and performed it in a theatre, we tore it down again to
play in the community centre, with a different kind of audience."

                    **snippage**

"We all prepared together, all knew each other's back stories - it was like entire lives lived in fast-forward," Williams remembered.

                    **snippage**

The deal with A Winter Tale is guys in a support group. It sounds lame, but Williams's character is a bedrock social worker who has had it up to his eyeballs with the drugs and violence in his community and the stubborn refusal of the men to rat anyone out or admit the real consequences of a dead boy on a sidewalk.

He's also terrified that the smart kid he mentors - Miller as a dealer and young dad on the lifestyle tipping point - is going over to the dark side and an early, pointless death.

He eventually browbeats six to sit and talk about what has to be done. Because this is the real world, little may come of it. Just maybe, though, it's a start.

"The experience made me more confident as an actor," Miller admitted. "It also encouraged me to write myself. I've grown exponentially through it."

"I've never had the opportunity to work like this before, at a community level, and so organically and honestly," said Williams, who lives and works in Vancouver and whose credits include The Chronicles of Riddick and TV's Stargate SG-1 and Da Vinci's Inquest. "I honestly doubt I'll ever experience it again."

Both correctly laud their director. She, correctly, sends it right back at them. A Winter Tale is the veteran Trinidad-born, Toronto-based filmmaker's baby, and she has raised it by hand. But it couldn't have worked without smelling like the truth, like it was bred in the bone. Her cast put that over.

Both she and Williams are middle-aged and successful. Despite all the hard work, they're still on the outside. Miller is 28, and from the 'hood. He's experienced the dope and danger. He knows how easy it is to fall in and drown. "I felt a responsibility to dig in for other members of my community."

So far, reaction has been overwhelming. It won the award for best Canadian feature at the last ReelWorld Film Festival in T.O., and is on the fest circuit now. There's a five-city tour planned for February where screenings will be coupled with community discussions, Solomon says, "to talk issues out."

Miller is off to visit his grandmother in Quebec City today. She'll be proud to see him.

A Winter Tale screens at Quartier Latin Saturday at 1:20 p.m.

TORRI HIGGINSON is currently filming an episode of CSI: NY. Regrettably, the filming ran over so she couldn't attend the London Anime convention this weekend. If the sides sites are right, she's probably in the sixth or seventh episode.

Several SG actors have appeared on the CSI shows: Michael Shanks (Miami), Joe Flanigan (Miami), Carmen Argenziano (NY), Corin Nemec (NY).

A Day of Being Too Early

I biked out to Burnaby today. I didn’t know how long it would take so I left early. It took 40 minutes and I arrived 50 minutes early for my audition to Stargate: Atlantis.

PS - auditions are surreal things.

I got a role on the Stargate TV series. They want me for one day of filming (I do have speaking role), but they don’t know what date. The best they can do right now is somewhere between the 17th and 27th. That could screw up my Birthday Auction or the Chilliwack show on the 25th. Pray for me.

As you can imagine it’s been a hectic week with moving, my birthday auction, a rock show coming up, plus Stargate stuff, so I’ve been neglecting this blog. But come back on Sunday, if I can get my internet hooked up at the new place I’ll be posting new and vivacious updates. And if I can’t get the internet hooked up, then I’m pooched.

Apparently he hasn't been able to the internet hooked up, because his blog hasn't been updated recently.
