See, now this is why I didnt want this subject to be brought up. Now everybody's gonna proclaim their religion and before you know it we'll have a riot on our hands!
No, not as long as we have respect for each other's beliefs and no one tries to ridicule another's idea of 'faith'.
Sounds like the Golden Rule to me - Do unto others what you would have others do unto you.
Respect and tolerance beget respect and tolerance back. Besides, if it does devolve into snottiness, I'll have the Mods step in and delete the offending posts.
I would suggest, however, that the conversation move to the OOC thread instead of here.
I haven't ever seen a chapel either. My guess is that it was never included.
I'm not really sure how chapels work in the military, but I will say this, if we did have one on base, some of the anthropologists *coughKyliecough* might insist that it be designed to appeal to every faith, Buddahists, Muslims, Hindus, and Christians, not just the obvious one. In fact she might insist that it be called a "meditation building/room", instead of a chapel, and include books on philosophy as well as religion of every kind. Hope that wouldn't offend Josh too much.
Personally, I like the idea, ainty. Just pointing out a possible road block.
I would be happy to create one!
and absolutely i would see it as meeting the needs of many/most ... certainly not of one faith!
but from what i can tell on military basis it would certainly be called a chapel.
and it would be something Josh would expect from all I have read on the position of Chaplain in the military outlines. he is there to serve other faiths beside his own. more so in a place where he is all there is ... he would have knowledge of the other faiths. i was on a military based expedition a couple of years ago and worked with a chaplain not of my particular denomination (or lack their of) and he was a great comfort and a great help when i had some medical issues.
I am a Chaplain Assistant, I can explain everything here.
The way the military works, obviously they have to try to accommodate everyone's faith. That does not mean we have to provide services, a lot of the smaller faiths (i.e. Wiccan) are led by layleaders: Soldiers or civilians who are qualified to lead. The only faiths we are required to provide are: Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, Islam and Jewish.
In regards to the chapel, rather than appeal to all faiths, it is the exact opposite. We neutralize the chapel. Cover the Cross, hide the stations of the cross, etc. Make it so that anyone can come in without feeling like it is leaning a certain way. We leave the Altar and such up but that is it.
Any other questions, I am the resident expert.
was so hoping you would stop by and give me some insight on this!! thanks!!!
I bet a few of you remember: but near when the RP started we did have people playing a chaplain or two, but now they're gone.
I agree with TD: The base, or Foreston, would have some sort of 'religion sanctuary', is there anyone opposed to having one of these? I think it's just being included because it's realistic.
Personally, I'm agnostic, so don't worry, I'm not trying to convert anyone
i would think there would be a chapel on base, TD would there be one at the Garrison too??
and i can't imagine there not being some sort of religious meeting place also in Foreston??
I can only speak of the magnificent (even if not religious ~ one would find it quite spectacular and quite modern for the era it was built) Chapel at the Air Force Academy!! It has a main sanctuary that is for Christian faiths, it has a beautiful Jewish synagogue and other gathering rooms.
just my thoughts on the matter but i find it hard to imagine anything created by the US military not having a 'spiritual' (for lack of a more neutral word) base of meeting. if anything the US military gets slammed for being too pro religious.
but then in my reading of the UK military, which is where Josh originated it is even more precise in their verbage on these matters.
this is not a pro-religious thing it is just a real life thing and i thought that was what RP was kind of shooting for?? trying to be somewhat realistic
especially the ALIEN parts
i so wanna be attacked by aliens, when can we be attacked by aliens???
just wait for Emma ok!!!

It most definitely would be called a Chapel. And as I mentioned above, Josh would only be responsible for performing his faiths service. He is expected to provide for and allow the other ones, but because of strict religious rules for different leaders, he would not be allowed to perform them. Any other faith would be led by a layleader, as I described above.

sry i didnt express too well there ... didn't mean to perform services ... i just meant as in someone people could go to to talk with. that he wouldn't turn anyone away if they need as jyn put it 'a shoulder to cry on'
but they generally do have an awareness of the foundational belief's of other common faiths from my understanding??
The garrison would be a tough call, only because of the proximity of the base. Chances are though that it would have at least some sort of facility.
Keep in mind that a chapel is not always a separate building. Sometimes it is just a large room within another building.
absolutely, again i didn't say it very well ... that is all i saw at the base is a room with an office off of it ... now in Foreston that is a different case ... maybe its own building, maybe not .... but i wouldn't think it would be military sanctioned but more a community place.
i was just showing the AFAcademy Chapel because it is such a cool building!
thanks again

No apologies necessary. I just wanted to make sure you understood the function of the Chaplain. Also, you have to remember that the Chaplain is not allowed to share any information shared with him unless it is life threatening. That should be obvious, but wanted to make sure.
In regards to location, I would say either have a large room on the base or a large building at the Garrison. I do not know, how close is Foreston to the base? If it is pretty close, it would not be necessary to have an actual chapel at each place, but an office is more likely.
The base would have a separate space for a Chapel with the Chaplain's office right next to it. If we get enough interest, I'll think about making a 'Chapel' thread. In the future.
The Foreston garrison isn't big enough to warrant a separate Chapel. It's only approx 8-10 people, if that. They can use the Chapel in Foreston.
I'm sure there's a building where various services can be held and probably various denominations of clergy or lay people living there. As well as the off-world faiths that have been imported along with the refugees.
I can already think of several little scenes for both Kylie and CJ that could happen in the chapel. So, I guess I'm going to vote for yes, please create the thread.
Also, Ainty, expect a PM in the near future, if you're intrested in helping with one of these praticular stories.

Some of you requested a more "square" version of my foreston maps...so here is my take on that...let me know what you think.
Spoiler:
And TD I was assuming that they were brought there by us, because they all seemed to have earth like names...and they operate kind of earth...y...
I was under the impression that all the inhabitants of Gaia, were originally from earth...am I wrong?
I even put my glasses on to read this map and I can't find it. Which way is North?
If I go by the other map, I think that if I walked from Jack's Place toward the Sheriff's office I'd be heading north? Correct?

I hadn't put a compass on this one, I was basing it off of Sharp's map in the FAQ of Gaia...I would say that north is the top of the map, and south is the bottom, west is the left edge, and east the right...
