Tyler choked back a disbelieving laugh, "Half session. That's what I give her. You, Mr. House, are a cruel and inhuman slave driver when it comes to PT."
She was a little dismayed that, given the rapidly healing state of her injuries, Ryn was still on prescription pain killers. I wonder if she's got enough patience to learn auto-hypnosis. It sure helps with pain when you don't have access to drugs.

((OOC: "still" on painkillers? It's only been half a day since she left the Infirmary, and the incident only happened the night before ... she may heal fastER, but she definitely ain't a superhuman like everyone makes her out to be Injuries should be fully healed by the end of the week. And it's RP-Monday now. ))


Ryn looked from one to the other, somewhat confused.

"Are you guys setting me up here or somethin'? I'm getting some kind of weird vibe here... Not sure if I should be scared or not.".

(( Still. As in I and Kym got the impression that the injuries were mostly healed. Ryn isn't wearing a sling, also leading us to believe that she's mostly healed. Kym's impression, which may be mistaken. That's why she didn't say anything aloud. ))

Kym gave House a wary look before speaking to Ryn, "Be afraid, kiddo. Be very afraid."
She tensed slightly as a phantom zinger ran down the back of her leg. A remembrance of injuries past. "The movement helps but, oh gods, does it hurt."
The woman glared at the pill bottle in House's hand, "Oh, by the way, I looked up your little pink pills. You need to share them with your victims ... I mean patients."
The finger waggled his way and the wry grin on her face made the comment almost a joke.

Ryn suddenly felt a little sick. Maybe it was the combo of pills and hot food that didn't sit too well. Or maybe she'd just eaten a little too much. Or maybe it was just the thought of doing those exercises. She let the third dish rest on her tray, and didn't touch it. Instead, she had a little of the juices. Thankfully, the sick feeling disappeared soon after.

"Didn't he say they were laxatives ?" Ryn asked, now completely confused about this whole thing. "Sorry. Me and pills and stuff... I tend to pretend they don't exist until I need them.".

PT Gregory House

House kept smirking at Ryn's confusion.

"Everybody lies." He popped open the cap of the bottle, showing it empty. "It's to what extent that matters. And I'm not a drug addict that has to pop fifty vicodin a day, even if they are yummy."

He stowed the bottle away and took up his fork again.

"So to answer your earlier question, yes it is a toy, just not one kids can get into." He smiled truly at his joke, but grew serious remembering the continuation of the conversation from there. "Inhuman slave driver? And I thought we had so much in common, then again I'm a sucker for a girl in uniform."

He gave Ryn a wink, but only in a jocular way. Though he was a sucker for uniforms.



((For the record - this House isn't on drugs at all, as his leg is fine. But vicodin is still his drug of choice for any pain))

"Oh." Ryn said, upon seeing the bottle empty. It made her take out her own container of pills and look at them as if they contained the answer to everything.
"I don't really know what these are. Except strong pain killers. They work fine for an hour or so and then I need another. It really really really hurts and I still feel those claws digging in me sometimes. Especially when I have to carry stuff...".

She pushed the tray away, suddenly sick of just seeing food. And tired, too. Maybe I left the infirmary too soon...

"Okay," Kym relented with a grin at Greg, "Maybe not inhuman."
To Ryn she added, "A slave driver nonetheless. But, if you want to get back to peak performance, that's what you need."

PT Gregory House

House sighed, standing.

"The good news is you're not at the exercise stage yet. The bad news is that's the end of the good news. Your arm should be in a sling to take the weight off the shoulder, and you shouldn't use it. I need to get a better look at it to decide what I am going to do with you." He sighed again, he continued, to no one in particular. "And it was turning out to be such a quiet afternoon."

"Tyler you might as well come with, I'll pull your check up a week forward then it leaves us both free."

Ryn looked at Tyler for help. This was not a situation she was familiar with, so some guidance from the officer here would be needed.

"Do you think I should do this ? I mean, was this a consult ? All I know is, we were just talking and now all of a sudden I need a new treatment ? Nobody said anything about me needing a sling..." The very word was scary. Ryn absolutely *hated* being hindered in free movements, something which the sling would exactly do...

PT Gregory House

House almost groaned.

"Fine, you want to spend the next month recovering when you've torn more muscle on your shoulder, don't come crying to me. The most you'll have to wear the sling for is a couple, probably less due to your metabolism. After the first day I get you exercising your shoulder properly. In two or three days you will be able to use the arm just as before, after two weeks I make sure there's no lasting damage and you're free of me." He looked at Tyler. "And as Captain Tyler know it's not a new treatment, it's after-care. A continuation. Seems as you, a marine of all people, admitted to being in pain the sooner we start the better because all you'll do is make it worse by trying to struggle through that pain barrier.

"As for my consulting abilities, well I can tell you came here about four or five days ago, you got into a fight about three days ago and, at a very long shot, were orphaned." It was a House guess, he'd already seen some of the signs associated with being an orphan and just presumed the rest.

Ryn stared at first, shocked. He had hit the nail on the head with that last remark, and she struggled to keep her composure. In the end though, she failed. She just sat there, not really up to saying anything in return. And not able to find anything, anyway. She decided to leave it to the others to decide what to do with her. Nothing she could say would change things, anyway. Experience had shown that it was better to just keep your mouth shut. For once, she managed.
And what had he really said ? Just how her "after-care" would work, that was all. But the manner in which it was said, and added to that, the observations about her past ... that had an effect, and not a nice one. Ryn did not like a confrontation of this kind. Any kind of likeability the PT had once had with her, was now gone.

Kym forced down the partially chewed bit of food in her mouth and said firmly, “Lighten up, House. It sounds like Ryn’s never had an injury that required after therapy before. Cut her some slack.”
To Ryn, she added, “I was a little surprised that the docs didn’t send you off with a sling but, what do I know. I’m only the cannon fodder who gets hurt, not the one who fixes the hurts. Be happy the PT is only 2 weeks. After I broke my ankle and screwed up my knee in training, I was in therapy for 12 hellish weeks.”
She shuddered, “And that wasn’t even under the caring ministrations of Mr. House here.”

"Wow," Ryn shuddered in sympathy as her friend relayed her earlier infirmary 'adventures'.
"Never realised that. I'm sorry for you, Kym. I really am .... Guess I have been really lucky, yeah .... As for the sling ... " She bit her lip thinking out loud.

".... maybe it's because it's both of my shoulders - that beast dug both its paws in me - and else I would've been immobile from my chest up ? I don't know. Anyway. I am still on the painkillers and on light duty. Which means I am not expected to carry anything heavy, nor do bigger stuff other than walk stairs .... And I'm also supposed to not train at the gym. Naturally. Which I'm not going to do, not until they tell me to do. I'm in enough trouble as it is. And I don't want to add a doctor's wrath to that other pile of BS either.". She smiled sadly at the end and sipped on a juice. Her appetite would not return however.

"Dehhh," Kym waved away the sympathy with a small gesture, "It was my own fault. Wasn't watching where I put my big clodhoppers."
She pushed her, now empty, plate aside and pulled her desert dish closer, "Like I said, I'm usually the hurt one not the healer one."
Waving a piece of chocolate chip pecan pie on the end of her fork at House, the woman added, "I bow to the expertise of the professionals. Mr. Professional, are you going to do an eval of Ryn tonight?"

(( Clodhoppers - slang for shoes or boots. Usually used when referring to larger sized feet. Kym wears a man's US size 11 boot, EU size 45. That's big for a woman. ))

House gave Tyler a lopsided smile.

"Might as well get it over and done with now." He was already standing, he decided to answer Ryn's point. "A sling is a loose term, it will more likely be a support than sling, that way you'll still be able to use your arms."
