Noticing Adria's sudden discomfort, Devin asked, "Adria? Cap- Major Johnson? You wouldn't happen to be okay would you?" Now, she wasn't okay, Devin saw, he then walked over next to her and set a steadying hand on her shoulder. "Major, I'll ask again, are you alright?" Devin was concerned about Adria, mainly because as he saw it, Kylie's need to stay up and active revolved around the Major, and he wasn't about to sacrifice Kylie's happiness for nothing.

Adria felt the hand on her shoulder and looked up. "Mike run dont stay here run!" She said still shaking.

Kylie had never witnessed such a vivid flashback before, and although Devin was the first to respond, she had managed to push herself out of the wheelchair and was now on the ground next to Adria. She picked up one of her wrists, and subtly checked her pulse while trying to calm her down. Adria's pulse was racing and Kylie knew that she had to do something to help calm her down. "Adria, listen to me. It's Kylie. I don't know where you just were, but you're back now. You're in the mess hall, you're safe. Come back out of it Adria. Adria, for crying out loud, just tell me you're ok." She checked for injuries and couldn't find anything serious. She noticed that the major was holding her chest. That meant one of two things, either she'd had a heart attack, or whatever flashback she'd just experienced ended with a serious chest wound. Kylie kept her voice calm as she spoke the next words. "It's ok, Adria, just come on back out of it."

Hearing the commotion, several airmen had run over and two of them were trying to assess Adria's condition while a third was on the radio, calling for a med crew to get to the mess hall.

By the time the words, "Mike? Who is this 'Mike' you speak of?" made their way from Devin's brain to his mouth, two things happened. One: Devin realized that Mike had been one of Adria's teammates at some point in her career and. Two: Devin's free hand clamped onto Adria's shoulder and was holding her firmly, ensuring she didn't try to do anything.

Adria herd a voice calling to her but couldn't find it. Everything had started to fade but the blood on her hands. All she could see was black her heart started to race at a dangerously high rate. If it kept this high there would be damage to her heart soon.

Kylie was almost panicking at this point. "Come on Adria, you have to be ok, you have to."

Several members of a med crew rushed into the mess hall and one of them took over for the airmen at Adria's side. "Major Johnson, can you hear me? I need you to tell me what's wrong. Get Dr. Steele on standby." the medic shouted to one of his companions.

"blood" was the only word she could get out looking at her hands then the fell limp to her side. She was unconcious and her heart was still beating to fast.

Kylie started to swipe at the tears that were now freely flowing down her cheecks. Adria was going to die, she just knew that she was going to die, and it would all be her fault for finally allowing herself to trust someone other than Devin.

Dr. Steele ran into the mess hall. "What happened?"

"She just went unconcious, but her heart rate's still elevated far too high." the medic informed her.

Dr. Steele bent over Adria, ignoring the others in the room. "Ok, everyone back off, give her some room to breath. I'll need a stretcher up here. Adria, if you can still hear me, I'm going to give you something to try to keep you're heart from racing so much." Dr. Steele produced a needle from the bag that she carried, and plunged it into Adria's arm. She monitered the major's pulse until she was certain that it had started to slow.

At that moment the stretcher arrived. "Ok, let's get her down to the infirmary."

Devin remained calm, instead citing one of Murphy's axioms, "Murphy's Law will only work in Murphy's systems. I.E. systems in which Murphy's Law is known. Therefore systems in which Murphy's Law is unknown will be unaffected." After watching Adria get taken to the infirmary, Devin quietly lifted Kylie into her wheel-chair. "I know Adria isn't okay, but I have to ask," Devin said, "are you okay?"

                    ((*Sigh* Good night then.))

Kylie watched in nervous apprehension as Adria was taken away on the streatcher. She was only vaugely aware of Devin lifting her back into the wheelchair. Tears were pouring down her cheeks. I can't ever trust anyone without them getting hurt. Devin's CO posioning, now Adria. I can't trust anyone. They all get hurt. Kylie continued to blame herself, not hearing Devin's words. She continued to cry, trying to pull herself inward into a small ball of pain, not really caring about her own injuries. The leg cast got in the way so she was unable to withdraw completely. I can't care, I can't trust. Not Devin, not Adria, not even myself. We all get hurt.

"Kylie." Devin said, "I need you to talk to me." Giving her a gentle shake, he said, "Tell me what's wrong. I can't help if I don't know what's wrong." Devin looked imploringly at Kylie, hoping she'd say something, anything. "I want to help, but I can't do that if you won't talk to me."

Kylie blinked a few times, trying to get rid of the last of her tears. She looked at Devin as if realizing for the first time that he had been standing in front of her. "Devin, I...." Kylie's voice broke when she saw the concern evident in his features. She wanted to be able to tell him everthing that was bothering her and let him hold her until it was all better agian, and she was once more able to move on. But something was holdin her back. There was still the fear that if she trusted him too much, he would get hurt. If she cared too much, it would all be destroyed before her eyes. "I can't. I just can't." She swiped the back of her hand across her face trying to regain her composure. "I, uh, I need to go, Devin." She shook her head, trying to get her thoughts back in order. "I, um, I have to be there, when Adria wakes up." The rest of Kylie's mind was screaming that it would never happen. That Kylie's confession of trust just moments before Adria collapsed had been enough to kill her. "I need to go wait for her in, in the infirmary." Kylie's voice was still stamering, but she gripped the top of the metal rims on the wheels of wheelchair, and started to push her way toward the elevator. She was a little suprised at how fast she was still able to move, but she had a goal in mind. She needed to be there for Adria. The elevator doors opened and she rolled her wheelchair inside, not looking, and not careing if Devin had followed her, or if he stood motionless in the middle of the mess hall, lost and forlorn, not knowing how to help the one that he loved. She couldn't allow herself to care, not again, she loved him to much to let something bad happen to him because she trusted him and cared about him. It may have already been to late for Devin, after that half hour in her quarters.

Devin did nothing. The shock of what had just happened froze him to that spot on the floor. Playing that moment over and over again in his head, Devin tried to unravel what Kylie had said. I can't. I can't? I cannot. Can not I. Not I can. Just cannot I. I just cannot. Permutations of her words filled his mind until it all became a jumble. "Murphy's Law is only known in Murphy's systems. I.E. systems in which Murphy's Law is known. Therefore, systems in which Murphy's Law is unknown will be unaffected." Devin said the Geva correction of Murphy's Law like a mantra drawing strength to move. By the time Devin reached the elevator, it had long since closed, so he used one of the emergency ladders to get down to the infirmary. As he descended, Devin repeated the mantra, "Murphy's Law is only known in Murphy's systems. I.E. systems in which Murphy's Law is known. Therefore, systems in which Murphy's Law is known will be unaffected."

CJ yawned once more and blinked a few times as she stepped out of the elevators and into the mess hall. She put some food on her plate not really caring what it was that she ate, as long as it was food. After fixing a large cup of coffee, she had a seat at a table where she could be alone and think about what she would have to do when she got to the lab that day. First thing's first, and right now I'm real interested in finding out whatever I can about the Renim. I should probably run a cross reference in the computer and see what I can come up with that way. She took a sip of her coffee and waited for the caffine to take effect.
